Storms near this place

5 since 2012

Regional context, not property-specific evidence. The National Weather Service names Eli in 5 storm reports between 2012 and 2019: 2 hail, 1 thunderstorm wind, 1 flash flood, 1 tornado. No death or injury is recorded in these reports. Each account below is quoted exactly as the forecast office filed it, from the NOAA Storm Events Database, and each date opens the federal record of that event.

WhenEvent Place namedHarm What the report says
May 2012Thunderstorm WindEli$15,000Law enforcement reported thunderstorm wind damage in and near the community of Plaska. Reports consisted of damage to barns, downed power lines, a few trailers blown over, and a roof removed from a home. A NWS storm survey was unable to reach this area to determine the full extent of damage, however a storm chaser in the area did report frequent inflow wind gusts to at least 60 mph into a nearby supercell thunderstorm. It is unclear if the damage was the result of inflow or outflow winds, or a combination thereof. Property damage was estimated to be around $15 thousand.
May 2019Tornado (EFU)Eli-Storm chasers observed a brief tornado near the ghost town of Eli.
June 2018HailEli-A storm chaser from KVII-TV in Amarillo measured mostly nickel size hail about 3 miles southwest of Memphis along Texas State Highway 256 but also observed a few hail stones up to quarter size.
June 2013Flash FloodEli-Widespread flash flooding was reported by several sources in northern Hall County. The Hall County Sheriff's Office and public reported widespread flash flooding in north-central Hall County from torrential rain. A resident in Lakeview measured 2.7 inches of rain in just 45 minutes, and a total rainfall of 3.5 inches was measured in Memphis. Rapid runoff resulted in flooding of Highway 256 from Lesley east to Lakeview, and to 5.5 miles southwest of Memphis. This highway was reported as being impassable in Lesley. The cluster of storms responsible for this flooding earlier produced five-minute rainfall rates measured as high as 0.72 inches by a Texas Tech University West Texas Mesonet located two miles southwest of Clarendon. Damage to roads, property, or some area crops are unknown.
May 2013HailEli-A hailswath with large hailstones between quarter size and 2.25 inches in diameter fell from about four miles southwest of Memphis to six miles east-southeast of Memphis. Hail in Memphis was reported by the Fire Department to be pea to dime size. No damage was reported.
