July 2019LightningWalker1 hurtA mechanic working for a California Department of Transportation contractor was|struck by lightning on the afternoon of 25 July in Mono County. The incident happened at 1515PST at a maintenance yard at Sonora Junction. The mechanic had exited his pickup truck and lightning hit the truck and him. His injuries were not life-threatening according to the news report.
July 2004LightningMammoth Lakes1 hurtA man was struck by lightning while walking on the outskirts of Mammoth Lakes. He was injured with burns to his waist, arm, and leg. He spent the night in the hospital and was released the next day.
October 2015Flash FloodChalfant$300,000Heavy rain upstream in the White Mountains caused flash flooding, both on highway 6 with mud and debris over the road (causing a closure), and in the town of Chalfant with 20 homes damaged from flood waters. Four or 5 of those homes (on Sacramento St) suffered major damage per a Cal OES report. The timing of the flash flood is estimated from between the time highway 6 was reported to have debris over it until about one hour after flooding reached the town of Chalfant (times on CHP incident page).

July 2007Flash FloodMammoth Lakes$10,000Trained weather spotters and law enforcement officials reported heavy rainfall and flash flooding in the Mammoth Lakes area. A total of 2.52 inches of rain fell in the town of Mammoth Lakes from approximately 2:00 pm PDT to 5:00 pm PDT on July 25th. The City of Mammoth public works director reported serious erosion problems in town with some damage to roadways. In the area of Sierra Valley water flowed over roads, and the first floor of a few houses in the area were flooded. At the Mammoth Mountain Ski Village water was reported in a building, and water and debris were reported over Minaret Road and over Main Street.

The Desert Creek gauge along the creek indicated a rapid spike to near flood stage between 1900PST and 2200PST. Meanwhile, radar indicated over 2 inches of rainfall. This gauge, the heavy rainfall, and a report of flooding over Desert Creek Road in southern Lyon County indicated likely areas of flash flooding along creeks coming out of the Sweetwater Mountains.
