September 2019Flash FloodCox$75,000Monsoon thunderstorms developed during the evening hours across the far eastern portions of Riverside County on September 1st and some of the stronger storms generated locally heavy rainfall with peak rain rates in excess of one inch per hour. The very heavy rain led to some flash flooding that impacted the lower Colorado River Valley as well as Highway 95 north of the town of Blythe. According to a report from Caltrans, or the department of highways, at 2235PST flash flooding caused 7 to 8 vehicles to become stuck between flooded portions of US Highway 95 about 15 miles northeast of Midland. Fortunately there were no injuries reported. A Flash Flood Warning was in effect at the time of the flooding, and was issued at 2210PST.
August 2022Flash FloodCox$15,000CHP reported that U.S. 95 north of Blythe was closed due to flooding. There were also reports of vehicles washed off the roadway. No injuries were reported.
