The Chute Building was used as cold storage for packed lettuce crates. Description: The two-story building measures 14' x Its construction is heavy post and beam frame construction set on concrete footings, shuttered single sash windows, and a board and batten exterior. At first glance, this structure resembles a North Carolina tobacco barn. History: The Chute Building is located adjacent to the Cherry Hill Lettuce Shed. As crates were packed with lettuce, they were carried by conveyor to the end of the lettuce shed where they were iced and the tops nailed on. The packed crates were placed back on the conveyor which took them to the top of the air conditioned Chute Building. The lettuce crates were stacked in the building until they were loaded on trucks.
