The Hoxie House is believed to be the oldest century house on Cape Cod, according to Dr. Ernest Allen Connally, HABS Historian and Architect. The nucleus is supposed to date from however, George H. Sherwood, Boston architect in charge of restoration, dates the house around This is a two-and-one-half story salt-box house. FAST

Sherwood of 101 Tremont Boston, has measured drawings and restor- ation drawings of this house* Alterations and additions - In when Dr. Connally inspected the house, it was in the process of restoration. Today, it is fairly complete and open to the public0 Historical events - not covered. Important old views - not covered. Sources of information - Dr. Connolly's inspection, interview with caretaker, Ceo. Wing of Sandwich. Likely sources not yet investigated - Further study needed. Careful restoration has been made under direction of Architect George H, Sherwood of Boston, and Abbott Lowell Cunntings as consultant Condition - Excellent, THE EXTERIOR - This Is a shingled salt-box 2 1/2 story house, vertical plank construction, shingled roof, massive brick chimney, facing east.
The Interior
Entry and two rooms on the east, huge kitchen, stories high,with loft on the west. Upstairs is one large roca on t he ea3t. Attic above, SITE This house is located in a well landscaped site, with rail fence, shrubbery trees and well kept lawn on a terraced lot east of Lake Shawme Lake near Sandwich Center, The house is now on public exhibition.
