Gianfranco Archimede, Alpine Archaeological Consultants, Inc., April Deer Creek Dam, Chlorination Building HAER No. UT-93-F (page 3) Although Deer Creek Dam was constructed between and modifications and additions were made to the dam after its completion. Construction of the chlorination building began in with the completion of the Salt Lake Aqueduct and was finished in 1 Its function was to chlorinate incoming water to prevent algae and bacterial growths in the system. The chlorination building is a 49 by 67-foot concrete block, flat roofed, 1Vz-story industrial structure oriented northeast to southwest.

Its irregular "S" shape is divided into several internal areas: a chlorine handling bay and valve works area, an office, a chlorine gas scrubber room, a bathroom, and an emergency generator room. The larger, square portion of the structure is the original portion, while the smaller portion was added at a later (unknown) date. The original equipment housed in the structure includes a venturi meter and chlorination injection and control mechanisms. Control equipment for operation of the aqueduct gate and reservoirs is also housed in the chlorination building, consisting of gate switches and reservoir level recorders. 2 Chlorination of water entering the aqueduct was discontinued around in favor of aeration.

3 Today a treatment chemical is added on-site to maintain the cleanliness of the aqueduct pipeline, the appurtenant holding tank and works of which are now underground adjacent to the inlet gates. The chlorination building is no longer used other than for its emergency electrical generator. 1 U.S. Department of the Interior, Bureau of Reclamation, Project History: Provo River Project- Utah, Deer Creek Division, Vol. XV, submitted by L.
