The most serious of them, by death, then
injury, then recorded damage. The accounts are quoted exactly as the
forecast office filed them.
The shoulder of Military Road in Norway collapsed due to flood waters. An 82-year old man's vehicle became stuck with the driver's side wheels on the pavement, and the passenger side wheels in a ravine created by the floodwaters. The man died when he exited the vehicle and was swept away by floodwaters.
Several flooding reports were received in the Mohawk Valley. A person was trapped in their house in the Town of Schuyler due to flooding off Route 5S. That route was closed in the Village of Frankfort, along with Route 171 and West Main Street. Route 5 was closed from the Town of Schuyler to Little Falls with portions of the roadway under water. The Wal-Mart in Herkimer had to be evacuated due to flooding concerns.
The West Canada Creek and its tributaries were out of their banks and causing widespread flooding of roadways and basements. Middleville residents sandbagged their properties Thursday morning, April 28th, trying to keep the water from the West Canada Creek at bay.||The following roads were reported closed due to flooding: |In Poland: Route 8 from village line to Route 10, washed away in several locations. |In Russia: Military Road from Route 8 to Buck Hill, Grant Road from Russia Road to Military Road, Mill Road to Russia Road, Patridge Hill Road, and Gravestone Road from Russia Road to Route 28 northern section. |In Newport: Brayton Road, Strumlock Road and Route 28 near the high school.|In Frankfort: Ferguson, Welshbush and Broad Streets.|In Middleville: Fishing Rock Road and the Middleville Bridge.|In Ohio: Bussey Bridge between Route 8 to Route 365, Fisher Road from Route 8 to Fisher Lane Road, Route 8 from the village of Poland line to Route 10 in Hamilton County, Stantmire Road, and Atwood Lake Road to Route 8.|In Litchfiield: Holcomb Gulf Road.|In Columbia: House Road from Smith Road.
High water due to flash flooding from earlier in the day continued to cause impassable roadways into the evening hours on Saturday, July 1st throughout the village of Herkimer. Runoff from flash flooding caused the West Canada Creek at Kast Bridge to exceed moderate flood stage at 3:40 PM EST, crest at 4:30 PM EST and fall below flood stage by 7:12 PM EST.
Roads and a bridge were washed out in the Town of Fairfield, prompting swiftwater rescues. The bridge on Farrington Road was washed out, stranding the residents of four homes.

Local news stations shared pictures and videos of flooding occurring in spots along the entire path of the creek from Poland to Newport and Middleville with water encroaching on river-adjacent homes, roadways, and local businesses.

The East Canada Creek flowed out of its banks in the Village of Dolgeville, leading to extensive severe flooding. Swiftwater rescues occurred due to the rapidly rising waters, with around 75 people evacuated from homes due to the flooding. Several homes were severely damaged or destroyed with walls ripped from their foundations. The damage was heaviest along North Main Street where several feet of water was coursing down the street and into residences. The Route 29 bridge over the East Canada Creek was closed due to high water as well.
There was widespread flash flooding in the village of Middleville. Water entered structures with cars partially submerged. There were 27 evacuations as a result of the flooding. The West Canada Creek was nearing the road surface of the Route 28 bridge. Downstream at Kast Bridge, the creek reached moderate flood stage at 2106EST and continued to rise to major flood stage by 2124EST before cresting at a record high level of 10.92 feet at 2315EST.
The West Canada Creek reached a record high stage of 10.92 feet at Kast Bridge at 2315EST 31 October. It fell below major flood stage at 0400EST 1 November, then had a secondary crest, rising above major flood stage again at 1231EST 1 November. It remained above major flood stage until 1615EST 2 November, and fell below moderate flood stage by 0155EST 3 November. There was widespread flooding along the West Canada Creek between Middleville and Herkimer, resulting in the closure of Route 28. There was widespread flooding in the village of Middleville. Water entered structures with cars partially submerged. There were 27 evacuations as a result of the flooding. The West Canada Creek was nearing the road surface of the Route 28 bridge.
From January 7 to January 10, mild weather along with significant rain and snowmelt resulted in small stream flooding across Herkimer County. There were road closures throughout the county due to ponding of water and small stream flooding. Spencer Creek in the southern portion of the county spilled over its banks.
Video and trained spotter reports were received of water and debris flowing down Steuben Hill Road in the Village of Herkimer with portions of the road getting washed out. The flood water and debris flowed onto some nearby side streets including Dayton Place.
Heavy rainfall eroded the embankment along the Hilltop Bridge over Moyer Creek, resulting in the evacuation of 50-100 residents along South Litchfield Street.
Numerous roads were reported closed due to flooding in the vicinity of Dolgeville along with basement flooding. South Main Street was flooded in Dolgeville. In addition, a mudslide was reported in Danube.
An ice jam from the East Canada Creek resulted in flooding along portions of Van Buren Street and Dolge Avenue in the Village of Dolgeville. Homeowners had to evacuate from at least 10 homes due to the flooding. One of the residents reported chunks of ice knocking trees down along its path and flooding impacting some garages and basements. Flood waters began to recede later in the evening with crews still working into the overnight hours to get the water flowing back into the channel.
