Drawn when these were printed as single large sheets: the town seen from the air, and the county divided into its farms with every owner named. Each opens the original at the Library of Congress.
Selected from the Digital Public Library of America's 46 image records catalogued for this county. Every one shown here carries a public-domain status or a licence that permits reuse on a site that carries advertising; non-commercial, share-alike and restricted images are excluded. The selection is spread across the county's towns (at most eight per town), so no single institution's bulk upload crowds out the rest. Each opens the holding library's record, and the complete set at the Digital Public Library of America is one click away.

Flown by the U.S. Geological Survey between 1937 and 1989, the Aerial Photo Single Frames collection is the definitive mid-century view of the land: fields, roads and rivers as the camera saw them. The Survey holds 3,679 frames inside the rectangle that bounds this county; the 48 frames below were taken over the county itself, chosen across the decades of flights (at most four a year from that rectangle), so one flight cannot crowd out the rest. The full set is free to browse and download at EarthExplorer under the dataset Aerial Photo Single Frames.

| October 2013 | Flash Flood | Oak Hill | 4 killed, $100,000,000 | Heavy rains in excess of 14 inches upstream of Austin in the Onion Creek Watershed near Wimberley caused a flash flood that hit portions of South Austin in the early morning hours. Water started to rise and flood portions of the Onion Creek area near Interstate 35 by 4-5am on the morning of the 31st and water continued to rise into the early morning hours. USGS gauges were overtopped near Twin Creek Road and this record flood water continued to move along Onion creek, passing under I-35 and inundating several neighborhoods between I-35 and US Highway 183. A reverse 911 was utilized by the City of Austin to help evacuate residents but flood waters rose so quickly that most residents sheltered in place and were rescued by truck and helicopter later that morning. Those that tried to escape the flood waters via their vehicles got caught in the rising waters and this led to several fatalities. A mother and infant son died when their SUV vehicle was swept off the Onion Creek bridge on Bluff Springs Road in the predawn hours around 430 am. Another resident in a neighborhood along Onion Creek was also found drowned as his vehicle got swept off the road and was recovered near Pleasant Valley Drive and William Cannon. Almost 2 weeks later the body of a homeless man was found in Williamson Creek near South First Street and Heartwood. He was presumed a flood fatality from this event. Manual readings were performed by USGS at the Onion Creek/Highway 183 gauge site ATIT2. The creek crested just over 40 feet at 930 am the morning of October 31st. This was a new record height for this location and translated to about 135,000 cubic feet per second. In total across Travis County and the City of Austin, over 700 homes were damaged by the flooding, of which over 100 were destroyed. Most of the affected homes did not have insurance and were within the 100 year flood plain of Onion Creek. Flood recovery lasted for several weeks including debris removal. Damage estimates are still being calculated as of this writing but damages across Travis County and the City of Austin look like they will exceed 100 million dollars. |

| March 2005 | Hail | Lago Vista | $100,000,000 | On the evening of March 25, the most destructive hailstorm in ten years struck the greater Austin Area. The total damage to homes, vehicles, businesses and property has been estimated at over $100 million. This is the greatest amount of damage due to a hailstorm since of March 25, 1993, when $125 million of damage occurred. The event began as two apparent supercells located near Marble Falls and Round Mountain merged into a line of thunderstorms as they moved eastward into Travis County. This new line stretched from near Lago Vista on the north edge, across Lake Travis and Lakeway, to near Bee Cave. The storm began producing hail up to golfball-size at Lake Travis and Lakeway between 2108 CST and 2015 CST. At the same time, near the mid part of the line, a combination of large hail and damaging winds struck near FM620 and Anderson Mill Road. The storm knocked out power to 5000 homes from northwest Austin to the Oak Hills area. As the hailstorm crossed the central and south portions of the city between 2125 CST and 2140 CST, it shattered windows in hundreds of homes and thousands of cars, as well as denting thousands of cars. By 2140 CST, the storm was on the southeast side of the city, producing hail up to 2 inches in diameter at the Travis County Exposition Center. The storm continued on toward Manor, producing 1 inch hail in 3 to 6 inch drifts in the Manor area, just prior to producing an F1 tornado. All through the life of the storm system, the greatest damage was reported along it's south end. |

The combination of baseball size hail and winds of 70 to 80 mph blew out building and apartment windows throughout this area. Windows on the Texas Capitol building were blown out as well. Lions golf course and Morris Williams course sustained damage and had to briefly close. Power was knocked off to nearly 20000 customers. Large old oak trees were damaged and the city of Austin spent over 2 million dollars in cleanup and response. Total monetary losses are being estimated at 50 million dollars. |

| October 2018 | Flood | Austin Lakeway Arpt | $10,000,000 | After 5-10 inches of rain fell in the Llano River basin flood waters moved into the Colorado River basin along with heavy rain in the basin. Lake Travis rose into its flood pool (681 feet MSL) on the 16th and eventually rose to 704.3 feet MSL on the 19th. This flood water overwhelmed Austin's water treatment facilities and the city issued a boil water notice on the 22nd. The city and Travis and Williamson Counties distributed bottled water to residents. The Lower Colorado River Authority conducted flood operations opening as many as eight floodgates on Mansfield Dam to reduce the level of the lake. By the 28th the level was sufficiently low to allow the water treatment facilities to operate normally and the boil water notice was lifted. In and around the Lake Travis area there were reportedly nearly 100 homes that experienced Major damage, 76 with Minor damage, and over 200 homes that were Affected. Damage estimates and insured losses are not complete as of this writing but will likely top 10 million dollars. The monetary loss to businesses in Austin with regards to the boil water notice are unknown. |
| October 2015 | Flash Flood | Pleasant Hill | $10,000,000 | Historical rains occurred in the morning hours of the 30th across much of south Austin. This flooding caused high water and major flooding along Onion Creek and Dry Creek, along with other creeks and rivers in Austin/Travis County. 86 homes were damaged near Dry Creek, with several hundred more across southern sections of south Austin and Travis County. This area experience unprecedented rainfall and rainfall rates, on the order of 7 inches of rain per hour, maybe higher. 2 and 3 hour rain totals hit 12+ inches. Due to high rainfall totals the previous week, this intense rain on the 30th caused massive runoff. Cars were underwater on Highway 71 near Austin Bergstrom International Airport. Areas that were not known to flood, saw flooding for the first time in decades. In total, Austin and Travis County saw close to 600 homes flooded, over 100 of those were destroyed. Damage to infrastructure and repair totals more than 10 million dollars. This total does not include insured/uninsured losses to homes. |
| April 2024 | Tornado (EF1) | Manor | $5,000,000 | A National Weather Service damage survey team found damage to a building under construction near Hwy 290 and Toll Road 130. Minor damage was seen at the Ford dealership on Hwy 290 and to a gas station near the intersection of 290 and Manor Downs Rd. where a large billboard was blown over into the gas station parking lot. Tree and roof damage was also noted at the gas station along with minor damage to a few businesses at the Lexington St./Hwy 290 intersection. All of this damage along Hwy 290 was rated EF0. The small tornado either weakened or reformed just to the north of Hwy 290 in Shadowglen with fence and shingle damage found to houses on several neighborhood roads. One house had significant EF1 roof damage where winds looks to have peaked at 110 mph. The small tornado appears to have weakened again as it moved ENE into the Stonewater neighborhood. Multiple homes had a significant amount of shingles removed, fences damaged, trampolines tossed, and some tree damage. The tornado appears to have dissipated somewhere NE of the Stonewater area. |
| June 2009 | Flash Flood | Austin | $2,000,000 | The bridge at 12th and Red River Streets in Austin was washed out. |
| August 2020 | Thunderstorm Wind | Dodd City | $1,000,000 | A thunderstorm produced wind gusts estimated at 80 mph that damaged the Lake Travis Marina and 14 boats. Some docks were blown into each other and metal roofing at the marina was damaged. |
| April 2017 | Thunderstorm Wind | Austin Lakeway Arpt | $1,000,000 | Several houses on or near Costa Bella Drive sustained roof and chimney damage. Some chimneys were broken off. Several marinas and even a floating restaurant were damaged on the lake shore from thunderstorm winds that are estimated to be as high as 80 mph. Many homes sustained damage in and around the Lakeway area. Estimates of damage are incomplete but may be as high as one million dollars, possibly higher based on the large and expensive homes in that area and neighborhood. |
| April 2017 | Thunderstorm Wind | Austin Lakeway Arpt | $1,000,000 | A thunderstorm produced wind gusts estimated at 75 to 80 mph that downed large trees on Point Venture near Lake Travis. In addition, several homes sustained wind damage especially those that were on the south side of the point facing Lakeway. Roofs and patios had the most damage as radar indicated winds in excess of 70 kt blowing through the area. With multiple homes damage including resulting water damage, estimates of monetary loss may be as high as one million dollars. |
