p6 Read at the funeral. Elisha Lewis Reynolds was born July 24, 1820 in Homer, Union County. When a young man he entered the large general store owned by his father. He remained until his father's death. In the spring of 1844 he removed to Milford Center and entered partnership with French Garwood and these men managed one of the largest dry goods stores in the county. July 10, 1845, Mr. Reynolds married Mary E. Burnham and continued to live in Milford Center until 1857. He then moved to Marysville having been elected treasurer of Union County, which position he held two terms. In 1861 at the end of his second term he returned to Milford and again engaged in the dry goods business. In 1866, he moved to Sedalia, Missouri. Not being satisfied, he returned to Ohio in a little more than a year and located at Hamilton. There he was a traveling salesman for the woolen mills. In 1870 he was employed in the same capacity with his brothers of the firm of Reynolds and Reynolds, Dayton, Ohio. He stayed in this firm 25 years. His wife died April 8, 1892 and in 1895 because of ill health, he retired. He leaves five children- three sons F. G. of Chicago, G. B. of Cincinnati, and H. C. of Dayton, two daughters, Mrs. Hattie Waters, of Cincinnati and Miss Lou Reynolds, Marysville. Also two sisters, Mrs. Hilah Woodworth and Mrs. Martha Winget.

p7c3 Mrs. Polly Powers died Wednesday at the home of her daughter Mrs. E. B. Knotts. She was the widow of Edward Powers. She was born in Clark County and on June 5 she was 79. She leaves 2 sons, 4 daughters, all married. Daughter Mrs. Clara Blue, Manchester Tenn, son Chambers Powers, Osborn City, Kansas, son Charles Powers.

Jan. 2, 1901 Recent Death of Mrs. William H. Skinner, at Battle Creek, Mich. recalls the fact that her husband, in company with Abraham Morey, helped to build the first congregational church in Marysville in the early sixties. The building is now used by Figley's livery stable.

Joseph Conklin, a well-known resident of Watkins, died at his home Wed. from old age, being ninety years old. Funeral at Methodist Church. He was the father of H. J. Conklin. He had been living with his son R. A. Conklin.

Clarence Seigman, 15, son of Chester Seigman, died Monday night after a week's illness with appendicitis. An operation was performed Monday morning.

Jan. 9, 1901 Mrs. Catherine Kleiber died Sunday, age 57, widow of Philip Kleiber who died 1892. She was a native of Hessen Castle, Ger. and came to America with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Dipple, when she was three. Married 1865; She leaves three children, John, George and Mrs. Emma Noelp.

Obit. Elizabeth Carr, born in Delaware County, O. September 9th 1823 and died Dec. 9, 1900, aged 77 yr and 3 months. She was the youngest child of Solomon and Priscilla Carr, and the last survivor of the family. She was united in marriage with William P. Cratty, October 31, 1844. Two daughters.

Polly Ann Powers born Warren County, O. June 5, 1821 m 1840 Edward Powers who died fourteen years ago. She joined Amrine M. E. Church 50 years ago. She leaves 2 sons, 4 daughters, 21 grandchildren.

Jan. 16, 1901 Marion Taylor on Thursday sold a car load of horses to H. D. Snider of Millersburg, O. The horses average 1700 pounds and brought an average of $200. They will be shipped East on the Panhandle road from Milford Center on Thursday.

Obit. John E. Connor, son of Isaac & Mary Connor, born Liberty Tp Un Co Mar. 6, 1864 died Victor, Colorado Dec. 31, 1900 aged 36y 9 m, 25d. He was bereft of a father when he was 6

Albert Hickok married Rosalia Mackan. The couple left Thursday for San Antonio, Texas, to spend the winter, where Mr. Hickok and his brothers are engaged in farming.

Eliza Grimm died this morning age 76y 8 m. Daughters Katherine and Dollie Grimm, son Walter Grimm, survive. She was born near Somerset May 13, 1825, married Jacob Grimm Dec. 24, 1849. Five children, 3 sons, 2 daughters.

Andrew Amrine died at home of son William Amrine, age 76, buried Oakdale Cem.. He had 4 sons, 2 daughters: Ide H. Amrine, William Amrine, Mrs. David Crippen, F. O. Amrine, Charles A., Zanesville, Mrs. Jay Rogers.

Mrs. Srancania Johnson, born Union County died age 48y 11m. Her husband died Aug. 26, 1894 Eddie Michael 22, married Zella Tossey, 24 at home of her brother Cletus.

Obit. Sarah Durnall Bloxsom born Aug. 20, 1808, Grayson Co, Va. She moved with her parent of Kentucky, then Highland Co, where she married 5-1-1828. They moved to Champaign County where he died Feb. 23 1839. She died at the home of her daughter Mrs. Milton Beck Feb. 15, 1901 (92-6-25). She was a widow about 62 years.

Isaac Brodrick died Tuesday age 76. He was the father of Probate Judge John M. Brodrick. Born Warren County, buried Oakdale Cem ; Eight children.

Maria Wolford Partridge married 1846 Reuben Partridge. She was a daughter of Adam and Catherine Wolford. Her parents came 1820 to south of the court house. She died Thursday. Leaves 5 daughters: Miss Asenath, Mrs. H. C. Vosbury, Mrs. S. L. Sager, Mrs. Waldo Guy, Miss Lillian Partridge. Buried Oakdale Cem.

Mrs. Laura Baker, Wife of Frank H.- daughter of Squire Jacob Edelblute died Saturday age 34 years, 10 months. Buried Oakdale, Consumption. Leaves one son.

Catherine Heminger Mcllroy born Feb. 10, 1821 died Feb. 20, 1901 (80years, 10 days) She married Zacharian Mcllroy. Eight children, five boys, three girls, 26 grandchildren, two sisters, one brother. Marriage License William Maugans 29, Floy Brown

April 10, 1901 Christabelle E. Brown, Mrs. Capt. William B. Brown died at home of her daughter Mrs. Weston Flint. She leaves daughter Mrs. Andrew Sabin, two grandchildren: Weston Brown Flint and Christabelle E. Sabin.

James Middleton, born Tuscarawas County, Ohio Feb. 5, 1821, fifth of 12 children, six sons, 5 daughters, children of Timothy & Martha Middleton. From Tuscarawas, the family moved to Knox County. He married Feb. 5, 1942 Rachel Stiggers. He died March 31, 1901.

April 24, 1901 John D. Rodebaugh died Monday age 79. A widower, he leaves two children: Charles & Miss Winnie Rodebaugh. He was an uncle of Dr. H. A. Rodebaugh.

Luther Turner died Friday age 73. He was a widower with four children: Mrs. Charles Shaffer, Mrs. W.E. Amrine, LeRoy Turner and Mrs. J. C. Welsh.

F. M. Taylor has forty fine draft horses at his barns and will ship a part of them this week to Mr. Snyder of Millersburg. Since the first of January, Mr. Taylor has shipped about 160 head of draft horses out of Union County.

Miss Jane Farnum born Millcreek Tp Dec. 22, 1827 died Marysville April 21, 1901, seventy-three years, four months. She was the second daughter of Henry & Fanny Hamilton Farnum who settled in Millcreek Township, near Watkins early in 1800. She united with the M. E. Church at Watkins. She leaves one brother, William Henry Farnum, six nieces and four nephews.

May 1, 1901 Ostrander. On the evening of the 3rd inst, Mr. Clinton Duncan and Miss Nina Russell were married. Mr. Duncan is assistant cashier of Scioto Savings Bank. He is from West Virginia. Miss Russel is a Missourian by birth.

May 8, 1901 Joseph G. Cassil, son of Judge Cassill died April 27, 1901 at Woodsfield, Monroe County, O. He was born March 22, 1832, came to Marysville about 1840. He married Dec. 1855 Caroline Pollock; daughter of Alexander Pollock, formerly treasurer of Union County. He leaves three sons, three daughters.

May 8, 1901 Iro Tossey left Tuesday afternoon for Indianapolis to attend a large sale of Short Horn and Polled Durham cattle. He will also spend some days visiting the best breeders in Indiana with a view of purchasing some fine stock. Mr. Tossey has proven himself an excellent judge of fine cattle of these breeds.

Mrs. J. M. Southard met Graily Henderson while at Denver. He is conductor on a dining car, with three cooks and four waiters directly under his charge. He is getting good pay.

Obit. Winget Harriman died at home near Essex April 12, 1901. Member Rush Creek Lodge, |OOF and Livingston Post GAR. Mr. H. was born in Bowling Green Township, Marion County in 1843. He lived several years with Jonathan Bell of Jackson Township. He went to lowa where he enlisted, served over three years in Co C. 40th lowa. After discharge, he returned to Union county, Married in 1867, and settled on the farm where he died. Mr. Harriman was a great admirer of fast horses, and at one time or another owned horses that made quite a reputation at various fairs.

May 15, 1901 William Beard, 32, killed walking on a rail road track. He leaves a wife and two children. They were separated; wife and children lived with her parents.

Obit. Deborah A. Huffman born 9-11-1823, died at Milford Center Apr. 14, 1901 (77-7-3). She came to Ohio with her parents when twelve years old and settled in Logan county. She was married to John J. Palmer in 1843, he died 1884. Eighteen children, 12 boys, 8 girls. 2 sons and 3 daughters remain.

May 22, 1901 Obit. Mary Catherine Blaney, born Licking Co 4-26-1842 married James P. Loop Sept. 28, 18-2. She died at her home north of Ostrander May 18, 1901 of cancer of the stomach, 59 years, 22 days. She leaves her husband and three children: Mrs. Ettie Anderson, Charles Loop and William Loop, also 2 grandchildren and a brother William Blaney, Jerome and sister Mrs. Martha Lee of this city.

Warren Harris died 5-14-1901 at the home of a son |. W. Harris, Plain City, age 64. He was one of the founders of Mt. Olive Christian Church, having been a deacon ever since this church was established. Buried Mitchell Cem. He was a brother of George and William Harris. He leaves a wife and four children, all the latter are married.

Frank Holycross, son of Marion Holycross who was working for Baltimore and Ohio in Licking Co has a job on Rio Grande & Santa Fe Railroad in New Mexico on the division of which Fred Fox, a native of this city is superintendent.

Mary 29, 1901 Mary Howard Mulford (picture, long article.) Born Washington County, New York Oct. 31, 1828. Died Feb. 4, 1901 age 72-3-3. At seven years she came with parents to Ohio. They lived Reynoldsburg, Ohio until 1865 when she and her third husband moved to Marysville. She was married 4 times and her fourth husband with whom she lived over 25 years survives. She had 5 children, three are living. Two daughters live in Jersey City, NJ and one in Marysville. Three brothers, George N. Howard, Delaware, William, Marysville, Abraham of Swanton.

Obit. Mrs. Emma Griffin died 5-8-1901 (31-5-26). Her maiden name was Shaw. born Nov. 12, 1869. She married L. F. Griffin June 29, 1892. She leaves her husband, 3 children, father, mother, 5 brothers and 3 sisters.

Jane Dixon born Dec. 24, 1830 Louden, Co. Va, died at Peoria Apr. 24, 1901 age 70y 4 m) She married John Gross May 12, 1953. She leaves one son, one daughter. Son Crayton died age 7. Husband died 1870.

Obit. Mary Elizabeth, daughter of Martin and Elizabeth Bowen, born Mar. 10, 1843, Livingston Co NY. Parents moved to Ohio 1847, located in Union Tp Champaign Co. She was oldest of 10 children of whom only 2 are living, one sister, one brother. She married Eliphus Meacham Feb. 15, 1863. She had four children, 2 died in infancy. Her children Ancil Meacham and Mrs. Lucy Coffrey, and her mother survive. Buried Woodstock

Mrs. John W. Robinson died Thursday, buried Oakdale Cem. Sarah Coe, daughter of Daniel and Mary Coe who were natives of Washington Co. Pa was born 5-24-1831. Married J. W. Robinson Feb. 8 1858. Seven children are all living. She was a member of Marysville Presbyterian Church

June 12, 1901 Mrs. Susannah Frankenfield died May 29, 1901 at the home of her daughter Mrs. Shover of Ostrander, aged 73. She was born Bucks Co Pen. Feb. 19, 1828. At the age of 9 she moved with her parents to Delaware County where she resided until her marriage to lsaac Staley May 10, 1849. Eight children. Her husband died during the Rebellion in 1864, buried Chattanooga Cem. She married in 1880 to W. P. Crawford who died 1894. Since his death she resided in Ostrander, member M. E. Church, Warrensburg.

Milt. H. Johnson died Saturday June 8, 1901 age 46. Leaves a wife and 2 children. He ran a store at Irwin and was postmaster. Buried Milford Cem.

John Milt Roney born 8-27-1836 near Dublin. His parents, James & Rachel Roney were natives of Chester Co. Pa. In 1842 after the death of his father, J. M. Roney was brought to Marysville and lived six years at the home of Mitchell Robinson. When 17, he began teaching district school. In 1857, after a trip through the West, Mr. Roney married Eliza M. Gill, daughter of Jesse Gill. After marriage Mr. Roney purchased a farm in Millcreek Township where he resided 13 years when, in 1871, he purchased another farm in Dover. He filled various township offices and was a Justice of the Peace a number of years. He was closely identified with the county agricultural society for many years. He leaves 3 children: James, Albert, Dr. Jane. His brother James Roney is a resident of Marysville. Funeral at Ostrander, bur Oakdale.

Obit. John Reed, born Sleg, Irel. 12-5-1832 died 6-16-1901. His mother soon after the birth of John, her youngest child, emigrated to Montreal, Canada where John grew to manhood. He was in service 1861-1864. Married Olive C. Hern to whom were born Sherman Reed, Delaware, James Reed of Greenville, O., Mrs. Lydia Johnson of Pharisburg, Mrs. Theressa Herd of Broadway, Miss Phoebe Reed, Raymond.

Solomon James, colored gentleman, died Thursday age 85-4-5).Freeborn native of North Carolina, He was one of the first colored settlers in the cotton slash neighborhood where he purchased 50 acres. He leaves a son Benjamin F. James, Delaware. He was married twice. His step-son is George James.

came to Dover Tp 1854 where he bought 117 acres of Lumberland. He erected a log cabin. March 12, 1835 he married Mary Moore. They had 12 children five are not living.

p2c4 Obit. LeviC. Wentz born Philadelphia, Pa Oct. 11, 1837. He came to Marysville at the age of eighteen. Married Oct. 23, 1860 Miss Margaret Turner. He was a Mason. Children surviving are Charles, William, Edward, Earl, Jennie Fenner, all reside in Toledo.

p5c3 Mrs. Ludell Daugherty wife of Thomas E. died Sunday 7-8-1901 age 24 at the home of her father William McMannis. Consumption. Buried Oakdale.

p6c1 Robert Martin received word the Spanish War pension was granted at #17 a month from June 1, 1899 and $30 a month from June 1, 1901 Back pay amounts to $438. He is the youngest son of late ex-sheriff Martin.

p7 c2 C. F. Monroe, editor and publisher of Milford Center Ohioan has leased printing plant of Plain City Advocate and hereafter both will be published from Plain City.

July 17, 1901 p2c2 Louisa A. Ballinger, whose son died in the war with Spain has been granted Mother's pension of $12 per month. She resides in Plain City.

p 5c3 Dwight Lincoln returned from France where he purchased sheep which will reach Milford the first week of August. They will be landed about July 18 at Quebec, and will be in quarantine 15 days. Robert Turner, Pharisburg, died 7-15-1901 (63). He leaves a wife and son. Buried Union Church Cem, Raymond Rd.

July 24, 1901 pic2 Crawford Moore (16) died riding a horse to Lybrand. A strange case, the horse turned and raced back, the boy remained on the horse but was unconscious when found, but died shortly. b1c4 The oldest living resident of Marysville is William Bancroft, born E. Fifth St. Aug. 19, 1829. The next oldest is his sister Mrs. Katherine Green, who is 9 years his junior.

J. D. Poling who had lived in Kansas 20 years, brought his cattle to Milford to sell because of shortage of feed. p2c3 Mrs. Betsy Burroughs, 105 years, 6 months died at the home of her son Allen Burroughs. She married second Mr. Orahood, but used the name of her first husband. Her oldest son, William Burroughs, 82, resides Paulding, O.. Joel Burroughs near Urbana, Newton Burroughs in Urbana and daughter Mrs. Lindie Draper in N. Lewisburg. She has 185 living descendants. Born January 27, 1796 in Susquehanna County Pennsylvania and in 1808 came with her parents to Ohio, settling first in Portage county, then Champaign county and afterwards to Allen township, Union County which has been her residence 63 years. Buried Buck Run Cem p4c3 Rev. W. D. Mitchell, pastor of the A. M. E. church, this city died 7-22-1901 (17) in North Lewisburg, buried Marion.

p4c4 Graham Brothers have just set up at their establishment a large size automatic manure spreader, 100 bushel capacity. It has been sold to Henry Scheiderer.

p5c2 Mrs. Rebecca Pyers, mother of Lawson Pyers and Mrs. Dell Guy of this city died Sat. 7-20- 1901 at the home of W. J. Harbert, Ostrander, aged 78 years.

p5c3 Mrs.J. A. Keller, W. Mansfield, mother of Mrs. L. B. Harvey died Monday 7-22-1901. She leaves a husband and eight children, 4 sons and 4 daughters. Mr. and Mrs. Keller were united in marriage 57 years ago.

July 31, 1901. William Chauncey Griffiths married Bessie Bell Runnels at the home of A. C. Crist. They were accompanied by Frank Faulkner, St. Louis, and Mrs. Pearl Rittenhouse Faulkner, who were married a few days ago at Upper Sandusky, O. Mr. Griffiths' home was formerly near Radnor, O. and he and his bride were teachers in Delaware County a few months ago pic4 A. P. Howard, Champaign County died Sunday age 80. Buried at Woodstock. He leaves 5 children; 2 in Colorado, one in Washington, Anson Howard, Milford, daughter Mrs. Don Martin, Woodstock. He was a member of the state legislature 2 terms 1860-1864, then the senate for one term. He was twice representative to the Constitutional Convention.

John Whitmore Smith, born Portsmouth, Ohio May 22, 1824 died July 20, 1901 age 77-1-28. Married Esther Ann Keyes May 26, 1844. They had ten children, 8 living, 25 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild.

August 7, 1901 pic1 Mrs. Sarah Carpenter, mother of L. F. Carpenter died Friday at the Columbus State Hospital. She was the daughter of Mrs. Allie Stillings. Buried Oakdale Cem p8c2 Richwood D. R. Parsons, died Columbus State hospital Sunday. buried Claibourne Cem. Born June 20, 1834 in Maine and at an early age moved to Knox County, O. In 1864 he came to Richwood where he engaged in the manufacture of furniture, also running a dry goods store. In 1879 he took charge of the Commercial hotel and was its landlord until about 8 years ago when the house was destroyed by fire. Three years ago he became mentally unbalanced. He leaves a widow and brother.

Mrs. Eliza E. Taylor, mother of John R. Taylor died Wed. Internment, New California. Born 2-14- 1819 Darby Tp p7c2 Arthur Amrine died Friday night age 23 years 6 months. Member Co. E. Buried Amrine Cem, son of Charles Amrine. p8c5 Darby. Child of Mr. Sager buried Saturday. Age 9 months

2. Marysville 1834. David Thornton, a tailor who worked for his father, brought a young woman as his wife. The belling became noisy, the bridegroom shot into the crowd, killed a bystander. He was sent to the penitentiary for several years, pardoned if he would not return to Union County

3. Six year old daughter of Parley Draper was murdered by Joseph Triplet who lived with her father. The jury found him guilty of murder, he was sentenced to be hung but sentence was changed to penitentiary. He died in the 70's declaring innocence.

4. May 9, 1863. Negro Cordell White who was stealing chickens from Patrick Connelly was accidentally shot by Connelly who shot in the direction of the noise. Connelly was acquitted.

5. William Freet died Apr. 13, 1863 from poison which had been administered by someone. Lathrop Converse and Mrs. Freet were arrested. The jury found Mrs. Freet not guilty. The case cost the county $1183.30 Converse's jury found him not guilty.

6. On April 14, 1873 a young woman age 22, Helen Artz murdered her child, 8 days old by prints around the child's neck. Jury found her not guilty.

7. Oct. 1873 John Reed and a young man by name of Griffin became involved in a quarrel, Reed stabbed Griffin with a pocket knife. Reed spent some time in prison "returned to Union County and lived an honorable life until death."

8. Mar. 19, 1879 John Phipps lost his life at the hands of A. Elliott. Served imprisonment, by labor of his sister, he later lived a worthy life.

9,10,11 Maria Scott, Ophelia Clark, an aunt, 90, and a boy named Charles Good. the whole family was murdered. Robert Garnes, a tenant spent time in prison, still there in Aug. 1901.

13. Mary 25, 1883 George Argo killed his sister-in-law to get possession of property left to her by her mother. He put the body in water to make it appear she had drowned. He was convicted and sentenced for 20 years. He died in prison.

15. about 1886. Edward Powers was killed by Thomas Smith. During a political argument, Smith struck Powers with a chair. He served in prison a short time, then paroled.

Sept. 4, 1901 Death Charles A. McMullen Sunday. Born Lafayette, Madison Co. His father, John McMullen moved to Springfield ILL. where he died when the son was only twelve years of age. The latter than returned to Ohio and made his home with his sister, Mrs. James Fullington. In 1861 he enlisted Co B. 32nd OVI. Married Martha Hathaway in 1864 and after the was they went to a farm near Woodstock where they resided 29 years. Of their six children, three are living: James McMullen, Mrs. Arthur Marsh and Anna McMullen. Milford Cem c1 Elsie Stuart (Mrs. Orlando) died at the home of her daughter Mrs. Orlando Wells in Joplin, Mo. Bur. Mo. She was 79. Orlando Stewart was killed by being thrown from a train at Mechanicsburg 20 years ago.

Rev. A. C. Crist lately purchased the home of Henry Crist. Henry Crist has gone to the home of his son, Virgil, north of town. Mr. Crist came to Union county in 1848.

p6c3 Mrs. Sarah D. Hazen left Thursday for Knapton, Washington, where she will spend the winter with her mother and sister. She will stop in Chicago for a visit with her sister, Mrs. W. H. Zinn and at Miles City, Montana she will be joined by her son Eldra Hazen, who expects to locate in the state of Washington. At Portland, Oregon they will be met by Mrs. Hazen's brother-in-law, Mr. M. P. Callender, who will take them in his steam yacht to Knapton, Wash. where his family and Mrs. Hazen's mother reside.

p 7 c3 Mrs. Mary Robinson Smart, relict of the late John S. Smart died Saturday, age 88. Mrs. Smart was born in Franklin county and came to Millcreek Tp when a little girl. In 1881, Mr. and Mrs. Smart retired from their farm and moved to Marysville. She has been cared for by her daughter Mrs. J. S. McKitrick. Of eleven children, the following survive: Mrs. McKitrick of this city, Joseph Smart, of Ostrander, Asa. Smart of Millcreek Township, Mrs. J. M. McKirgan of Milford Center, Isaac Smart of Auglaize Co. Mrs. C. L. Richey of Put-in-Bay; O. P. Smart of Independence, Kansas and Mrs. Jane Breckinridge of Franklin County, O. Interment at Oakdale cemetery.

p8c4 Thomas R. Welch, a druggist of Northport, Washington is registered here. He is a nephew of Rawson Welch, deceased, once a prominent citizen of Marysville. The former's father Thomas Welch, Sr. died in this city while on a visit to his brother Rawson Welch and was buried in the old cemetery which has been abandoned.

John Sidle died Tuesday at the home of his only daughter, Mrs. John Hamilton, of Mechanicsburg. He was 67, buried Bethlehem Cem. A Mason for 46 years.

Oct. 9, 1901 p1c2 Will L. McCampbell returned Saturday to his home Middletown, Ind. He was accompanied by his mother, Mrs. Mary McCampbell who had been the guest of her brother, Dr. D. W. Henderson. He recently closed a successful career as prosecuting attorney of his county and the first of the year he will assume charge of Middletown post office which pays a salary of $1800 and clerk hire. In addition to this he is interested in mining as a successful manufacturing business.

Marriage, Dr.D. J. Jenkins, Broadway and Ethel Colver of Summerville Thursday. She is a daughter of Horace Colver. He is identified with the medical profession and Republican candidate for county coroner.

c5 Mrs. Mary Rittenhouse Brown, wife of LeRoy Brown, Waldo Road died of typhoid, age 33. Leaves two small children. Mrs. Brown was the daughter of James Rittenhouse, deceased, a niece of Dell Gay. Shields, who represents Millcreek Township on the county agricultural board is fresh from a visit to his old home in Virginia where he was a prominent and influential citizen. He says the Southerners were dazed by the news (of McKinley's death) and lost no opportunity to speak in highest terms of the man, who, more than any other, has labored to reunite the North and South with the bonds of brotherly love which they are enjoying at the present time.

They came to Marysville, cashed the certificate. Her husband disappeared with the money. She is suing for divorce in Omaha.

Theodore Jones and Ada Moore (16) daughter of Rev. Henry Moore of Arbela, eloped to Kentucky. John Woodruff, son of A. M. Woodruff, Marion and Miss Starr Wooley, better known as Ethel Lee, adopted daughter of Joseph Lee, eloped to Kentucky.

October 23, 1901 William M. Winget died age 73-5-21. Born Union Township June 1, 1829. While quite young he learned the saddlery and harness making trade at Plain City. He married Nov. 29, 1853 at Milford Center Cynthia H. Culver.

He served Union township as clerk fourteen years and in 1875 was elected county clerk, removed to Marysville, serving two terms. Since then he has been Mayor of Marysville, and for many years justice of the peace. On May 21, 1864 he enlisted in 136th regiment of Ohio National Guard and served until Aug. Reenlisted Sept. 2 in 179th OVI from which he was honorably discharged the following May. In both units he was commissary sergeant. Of four children, two are living: Mrs. Lizzie Morey and Miss Mary Winget.

10-30-1901 p1c4 Arthur Harrod Walke son Mr. And Mrs. A. W. Walke, Milford died Monday of consumption, age 26. Survived by father, mother, 2 brothers, 2 sisters, Mrs. W. S. Mahon being a sister. He was born in Milford, graduated HS there in 1893. His father is a nephew of the late Admiral Walke of U. S. Navy p1c5 Charles LeMay, New Dover, fell under the train and was killed. He formerly resided in Ostrander, son of Lewis LeMay, Sr., former resident of Millcreek township. Some time ago Mr. Le May purchased a small property near the tile mill at Ostrander of William Carr. Recently he traded this for a farm in the southern part of the state. He left Ostrander last Friday to visit his farm and was probably killed while boarding a train for home. He leaves a wife and 6 children.

p8c4 Mrs. Rebecca Berger, wife of Samuel R. Berger the north Marysville blacksmith died Sunday. She was 67, mother of five living children: Kelton Berger, Dover Tp; Edward, of this city, Mrs. Calvin Liggett, Plain City; Mrs. James Roney, Middletown and John Berger, Marysville. She was a native of Virginia, coming to Franklin County, O. with her parents. After her marriage they resided in Licking County several years, came to Marysville in 1875. She had been an invalid many years. Surviving are two sisters: Mrs. Dr. Freeman, Columbus, Mrs. Charles Holt, Westerville and David Shipe, Aetna, Ohio. Buried Oakdale Cem.

11-6-1901 p1c3 Mrs. Catherine Shryer, widow of the late George Shryer, died at the home of her daughter Mrs. Charles Jones, Leesburg Tp. Her death was caused by dropsy in her 83rd year. The deceased was one of the early settlers of that section of the county, moving to Grassy Run with her parents when there were no roads of fences in that region. She leaves nine children, one of her daughters being the wife of County Commissioner John Lowe. One of her sons, Jacob Shryer came for the funeral. Buried Bethlehem Cemetery, near Richwood.

Mrs. Edward Randall, Leesburg Tp died Saturday at the home of her daughter Mrs. Grant Baker. She was 61 and leaves a son and daughter. Interment at Essex p3c2 Gideon Liggett, Millcreek Township will not be a candidate for re-election to the State Board of Agriculture. He has served three terms in that capacity.

p5c3 Mrs. D. J. Henderson died Monday (61-4-18). She was born and resided many years near Milford. In 1858 she married Henry D. Burnham who died September 15, 1881. She was married Jan. 9, 1886 to Captain Henderson of Raymond. She is survived by son D. H. Burnham, Columbus; Mrs. Thomas Lockwood, Liberty Tp, a married daughter at Troy and Miss Mary Burnham who resided at home.

Nov. 6, 1901 Obit. Elizabeth Wilson was born 1815 in Pa., moved with parents to Cambridge, Guernsey Co. At 18 years she married William J. Wilson and they became residents of Union County in 1836. They had 3 sons, 5 daughters, five of whom are living. She died Sept. 21, 1901 (80-2-2)

Obit. Emma Maria Stokes Holly was born at Ellisburg, Jefferson County, New York May 18, 1818 and departed this life Oct. 8, 1901, aged 83 years 6 months, 20 days. She was united in marriage to John W. Stokes July 4, 1840. She was a resident of Union county 64 years. There were seven children, of whom four survive, three sons, Oliver, George and Holly and daughter Araminta.

Obit. Florence Mildred, daughter of Clayton and Stella Herd was born July 8th 1900 and died September 16, 1901 age 1 year, 2 months, 7 days. She leaves a father, mother and two sisters.

p7ci The funeral of Frank Pearl, a former prominent resident of Milford Center was held Thursday. The deceased was 82 years of age. He died at the home of his grandson, Frank McDonald, of Columbus who is a mail clerk on the Panhandle railroad.

Nov. 13, 1901 Franklin B. Baker died Saturday. Born March 4, 1832 in Miller Township, Knox County, O. He leaves a wife and 2 sons, one living in Michigan and the other in Fort Grant; also two sisters and three brothers, two of the latter being residents of Marysville- Lyman and Henry Baker. The deceased during his early life lived in lowa and he enlisted in Co E. on the 25th lowa Volunteers serving three years. He afterward lived at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, from which place he moved to Union County about four years ago. Buried Bethlehem Cem.

Nov. 20, 1901 pici The body of Mrs. Katie Brenan, nee Long, who died Friday in Chicago was brought to this city. buried St. John's Catholic Cem. She was the youngest daughter of Mrs. Nellie Long. She graduated from High school 1892 and resided with her mother until five years ago when she secured employment in Chicago. She was married soon after to Mr. Brenan. Her sisters are Mrs. Anna Osman, Mrs. Mary Gray, brother John Long.

pics Ulysses D. Cole, eldest son of Judge P. B. Cole died Tuesday at his home in Rushville, Indiana where he was a practicing attorney. Mr. Cole went to Indiana when a young man and lived for a time at Huntington where he was engaged in the newspaper business, afterward editing a paper at Rushville.

During his residence in Huntington he was elected to the Indiana legislature. He was twice married, his second wife and one daughter by the first marriage surviving him. Funeral in Marysville.

p3c2 Col W. M. Liggett, a former Union County man has been elected president of the Association of American Agricultural Colleges and Experiment Stations which was in convention last week in Washington D. C. Col. Liggett is dean of the Minnesota Agricultural College.

p2c2 Obit. Phebe Hand Colwell, daughter of John & Electa Colwell was born Butler county April 11, 1847, married Alexander Darrow Nov. 15, 18 5. Long obituary. Fourteen children, seven survive.

p6c2 Stephen Graham, a native of Dover township, son of George Graham, died age 47. He leaves a wife and seven children. Mr. Graham was prominent in the Republican politics of Union County and two years ago was a candidate for county clerk. He was a member of the Christian Church at Watkins.

pic5 Henry G. Bell, father of Howard and Victor Bell died in Logan County, age 62. He was left a widower Oct. 11, 1901. Four children: Homer, Howard, Victor and Florence. Mr. Bell was a native of Scotland but at the age of 11 years he came with his parents to New York City and afterward settled in Logan County. There he married Lydia Ballinger. He enlisted in the 17th regiment OVI. At the expiration of service he moved to lowa. The family soon moved to Logan county and have lived there 27 years.

Professor O. J. Dodge of the Milford Center School, left Tuesday evening for Alabama where today he will be wedded to Misses Anna King Moody.

Dec. 4, 1901 Mary Martin Blue, relict of Hamilton Blue died Saturday at the home of her son-in-law, Alexander Blue, who was also her stepson. She was 86. Mrs. Blue was born in Ohio County, Virginia. Her husband died about 15 years ago. She leaves one daughter Mrs. Alex. Blue, one son Riley Martin of Marion.

p1c3 Mrs. Lydia Foote, mother of Ed. Foote, the veteran blacksmith of this city, died last Friday in Chicago in the home of her adopted daughter Mrs. Lewis. She was 83. The body was brought back to West Hope, buried by the side of her husband who died 23 years ago.

p1c3 Lisle Stimmel, a former resident of Millcreek Township died Friday in Columbus. He was twice married and leaves a widow, three sons and three daughters, one of whom is Joseph Stimmel of Dover Township. Buried Ostrander.

2c1 A. J. Ferguson, Darby Township died Wednesday at the age of 74 years 5 months, 17 days. Mr. Ferguson was born June 17, 1827 in Lancaster County, Pa, being the son of William & Anna Robbins Ferguson. His father died in 1844 and the widow with her children came to Union county, Ohio in 1855. She died May 18, 1862. January 1, 1854, Mr. Ferguson was married to Eleanor Jolly and of their 8 children, six are living. They purchased their present estate in 1858 and have lived in it continually. April 25, 1861, Mr. Ferguson enlisted in Co F. 18th OVI and Nov. 21, 1851 he reenlisted in Co K. 54th regiment and served three years and one month. Mr. Ferguson was clerk of Darby Township for many years and held various other official capacities. He was a member of the Masonic order.

p5c2 The funeral of Ernest Phelps, son of A. Phelps, was Sunday. The deceased met his death while working in the railroad yards of a big steel plant at Youngstown on Thursday. He was 19.

p8c2 Ernest G. Phelps was born at Peoria Ohio, January 17, 1882 and died at Youngstown Dec. 6, 1901, age 19-10-19. Bur Baughn Cem. Leaves father and mother, brother and sister-in-law, and a little nephew.

Obit. John Harry Bault was born Richland County, Ohio June 25, 1828 where on June 14, 1849 he was united in marriage with Miss Susannah Baker; to them were born three children: Zachariah, Elizabeth and Edith. In the year 1851 he moved with his family to Union county, where on September 7, 1855, the wife and mother died, leaving the father with three small children, but on Sept. 14, just seven days after the death of the mother, the son was called to follow her to the spirit land. On the 23rd day of September he was again united in marriage to Miss Susan Brake. This marriage was blessed with four children: Freelove, John, Laura, and Harry. John died August 5, 1863, leaving five living children all of whom attended the funeral except Edith who lives in Missouri. After moving to Union County he first settled in Newton where he lived a number of years, then moved to Broadway where on Dec. 6, 1886 his second companion died. He lived in Broadway and worked at his trade (Blacksmithing) up to 1895 when he moved to new Carlisle, Clark County, Ohio where he lived a retired life with the family of his daughter Freelove (Mrs. C. D. Shelton) until he died Dec. 2, 1901 age 73-5-7, leaving five children, one brother and two sisters.

Coe-Colebeck nuptials: Mr. Walter T. Coe formerly of Union County, now of Gahanna, and Miss Florence Colebeck, a teacher of Franklin County were married at the home of the bride's parents on Christmas evening by Rev. F. M. Myers of Galion, assisted by the Rev. E. W. McDowell of Columbus Richwood. Mabel, 4 years old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Zuspan died Friday. Her demise was caused by pneumonia.

p2c3 Sudden death of T. W. Kezertee of Leesburg Township. He was in his 83 year. He came to Union County in 1840 and settled in Leesburg Township. In 1851 he married Miss Sarah Martin of Hillsboro, O. who survives him as well as four children: Mrs. W. L. Hazen, Clay Kezertee, Mrs. Mary Bee and Miss Dora Kezertee. He leaves two brothers and a sister. Funeral services were held at the Bluescreek Congregational church conducted by Rev. J. S. Revenaugh. Body was placed in vault at Oakdale.

p6c1 Mrs. Irwin Klintner, Unionville, died Thursday. She was 65 years of age and besides her husband leaves three sons and one daughter. Funeral at Methodist church in Unionville.

p7 News reached Marysville of the sudden and unexpected death of Edwin Wilber which occurred at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Hiatt at Kansas City Christmas evening. Mr. Wilber was born in Allen Township in 1834 where he resided until about 12 years ago when he moved to Grenola, Kansas. After his wife died he has been making his home part of the time with his daughter at Kansas City. At the time of his death he owned 880 acres of land near Genola.

Thomas Walter Kezertee was born in Ashtabula County near Conneaut October 15th, 1820, next to the youngest of twelve children. Of Greek descent on his father's side and Scottish on his mother's. Seven of the twelve passed the 80" milestone. Two brothers, Henry, now deceased, Dr. Ira of Oshkosh, Wisconsin is still living. Sarah Kezerta Brown mother of Mrs. R. S. Bonnette and himself enjoyed more than fifty years of unbroken married life. In 1839 he came to Union County making his home with his sister, Mary Ann Davis, a well-known factor in the early history of Leesburg townshipteaching school and penmanship in winter and working on a farm in the summer for his start in life. He was a staunch Republican. He was married to Sarah Ruth Martin October 20, 1851. She was also well educated having graduated at the Hillsboro Female Seminary. To this union were born four children, Mrs. W. L. Hazen, Clay Kezerta, Mrs. W. H. Bee, and Dora Kezerta. Thomas Walter Kezerta was born October 20, 1819, married October 20, 1851, died December 26, 1901 aged 82 years.

January 8, 1902 p1c2 Mrs. Ezekial Snyder died Tuesday at her home near the Union church of pneumonia. She was 46 years of age and leaves, besides a husband, four sons and two daughters. Funeral at Union p5c1 Miss Ollie Hildreth, daughter of William Hildreth, living two miles west of Pharisburg died Tuesday.. She had been sick with diabetes. Her age was about 35 years.

p7 Mrs. Harriet M. Webb, widow of William R. Webb and mother of the late Captain Dwight Webb died Thursday at the home of her daughter Mrs. John Morah of Union township.

p7c3 Millard Langstaff died December 31°. He had been ailing with an abscess of the inner ear which developed inflammation of the brain. Mrs. Langstaff was engaged in the drug business. He was about 45 years of age. The wife and an adopted daughter survive him. The daughter has been attending college at Lebanon, Ohio. Funeral under auspices of Knights of Pythias.

P7c3 Mary Elizabeth Franklin, daughter of Arad and Nancy Franklin was born February 23, 1827 on the place now known as the Drum farm northeast of Pharisburg. She was one of eleven children. October 7" 1847 she was married to George Cary and to this union were born seven children, only three of whom grew to maturity. There are 21 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. She became a member of the Universalist church at Pharisburg more than 50 years ago. She died December 16, 1901, aged 74 years 9 months and 23 days. Maskill cem. Services conducted by J. p7c4 James Gardner, a former resident of Marysville, died Friday of lagrip at his home on the Joseph Turner farm near Asbury church. He was a widower, 65 years of age and leaves seven children, one of the daughters being the wife of Clinton Brake who is in the employ of George M. Wilber of this city. Funeral in the Amrine church. January 15, 1902. p 7c1 J. W. Outland aged 73, died Tuesday at his home this side of Zanesfield. p7c3 Obit Harriet M. Clark was born in Mansfield, Tolland Co, Connecticut February 13th 1824. She came to Ohio with her parents and eight brothers and sisters in 1838 and settled in Brighton, Clark County. She was married to William R. Webb February 14, 1841 and lived in Clark County until the spring of 1851 when they moved to Union County and settled on the banks of Big Darby. They lived there twenty years when they purchased what was known as the Gorton farm near Woodstock. They lived there until Mr. Webb's death May 11, 1887. After two years she went to live with her daughter Harriet.

To them were born seven children, four sons and three daughters, three of whom are dead. Her death occurred January 2, 1902, aged 77 years and 10 months.

p7c2 James D. Haines, Washington Tp, died Wednesday of heart disease. He was born in Champaign County April 2, 1832. His father was a soldier in the war of 1812. In 1860 he married Keziah Stamets of York Township who died three years later, leaving one child. He was subsequently married to Rhoda Speck by whom there were two children, and afterwards to Mrs. Elizabeth Martin who survives him with one daughter. He was a treasurer of Washington Township for several terms and was a large land owner. Funeral in the Methodist church at Byhalia. P8c2 James D. Haines was born April 2, 1832 and died January 8, 1902 aged 70 years 9 months 8 days.

December 27, 1860 he was married to Keziah Stamets and to this union was born one child, Cyrus N. Haines. He married Rhoda Speck in 1865. Two children, Agnes and Aaron, both of whom have preceded their father to the better world. He was married the third time to Elizabeth Martin March 27, 1877 and to them were born two children, Silvia and Casper, both are living. In 1879 he united with the M. E. Church. He was for years a trustee and member of the building committee of the First M. E. church. Funeral in Byhalia M. E. church, Rev. Chas. Fulkerson and A. E. Harford, officiating. Interment, Washington Tp cemetery.

January 22, 1892 pic4 John Thompson, Millcreek Township died Monday of paralysis at his home in Watkins. He was the father of barber George Thompson of this city. He was 67 years of age. He was twice married, the last wife surviving him. By the first marriage there were four children and by the second there were six, one of each set having died. Funeral at the home, interment at Watkins Cemetery.

pic5S Anna Mary Geier, mother of Mrs. George W._ Fox died at her daughter's home. She was born December 28" 1814 in Neidhardtswinden, Bavaria, Germany; emigrated to America with her father Leonhard Doellinger in 1843. The next year she was married to George Geier whose death occurred in 1856. To them six children were born, only two of whom survive the mother. Of Mrs. Geier's brothers and sisters three survive her, John and George Doellinger and Mrs. Wolf. Rev. F. W. Abicht preached in both German and English.

p3c1 Mrs. Lucy Laird, wife of Allen Laird died in Kenton Friday as a result of an operation to remove a tumor of the stomach. She was a daughter of James Armstrong who resides near Asbury church and her husband is a brother of John N. Laird of this city and a son of the late Moses Laird of Leesburg township. She was about forty years of age and leaves a husband and three children, the youngest one being thirteen years of age. Funeral services in Kenton, Interment Oakdale cem.

p4c2 Henry Crist passed away at the home of his son Virgil Crist--of throat trouble. He was born in New York and was 91 years of age. He came to Marysville in 1848.

p5ci1 Dr. T. P. Shields was called Tuesday to Fostoria, Ohio in his capacity as a member of the State Live Stock commission to investigate a new disease that has manifested itself among the horses and cattle in that vicinity.

p5c3 Mrs. Myrtle Starrick of Middleburg, sister of Orrin Ballinger of this place at her home Sunday from pneumonia, aged 30 years. She leaves three small sons. Funeral at Middleburg.

P7c3 Mrs. Gregory Hawley died at her home in Columbus from pneumonia. She was in her 83" year. For fourteen years Mrs. Hawley had been a widow. At the time of her husband's death they were living in the brick farm residence just across the Big Four railroad from Five Points "the Hawley place". She has been living with her daughter Miss Clara Hawley who is a teacher in the Columbus schools. She was also the step-mother of Maria Hawley of this city and Mrs. C. P. Robinson of Ottawa and a cousin of Mrs. J. P. Martin. Funeral at Columbus and Unionville where interment will be.

p7c3 Attorney Thomas Reed received a letter announcing the death of his daughter Mrs. Orintha Johnson at Johannesburg, California. Neuralgia of the heart. She was in her 41° year and leaves a husband Frank M. Johnson and three children, one of whom is married and has a child of her own. Mr. Johnson is a practical gold miner and for two years has been manager of Shaft No 1 at Johannesburg. Burial will be at Denver, Colorado. The deceased was a granddaughter of Union County's oldest resident, Mrs. Elizabeth Reed who is now 101.

p8c2 Obit. Sarah Sager Hawley, daughter of Samuel and Elizabeth Sager was born near Unionville December 12, 1819. Her parents were of German descent and came as pioneers to London County, Virginia and to the farm in Union County where she was born. She was the last survivor of her father's family, two sisters and a brother died many years ago and an elder sister Mrs. Ann Andrews and an elder brother, Michael Sager lived until a few years ago. She was married to Gregory Hawley in June 1857. For ten years they made their home on a farm near Milford Center. There was born her only child, Miss Clara Hawley who survives. In 1867 the family moved to a farm in the pic2 Mrs. C. N. Hill, Ryan chapel died Sunday of cancer of the stomach. She was 49 years 11 months and 28 days old. A husband and two children survive her. Funeral in Ryan Chapel, burial in Millcreek Church cemetery in Liberty Township.

pic5 Mrs. William H. Smith died Saturday. Mrs. Smith, nee Magdalena Gunderman was born in this city Nov. 2, 1863. She was a member of the Lutheran church. Services in German and English. Oakdale cem. Her age was 38 years 2 months and 29 days. Death was due to organic heart disease.

p2c3 Professor William G. Williams of Ohio Wesleyan University was born in Chillicothe February 22, 1822. His father, Samuel Williams was of Welsh extraction and his mother Margaret Troutman of Dutch descent, both natives of Pennsylvania. In 1844 he graduated Woodward H. S.

It is said that Henry Crist who died last week was an eye witness of the reception that was given to General Lafayette on his last visit to the United States. Mr. Crist was a small boy and lived in the vicinity of New York.

P3c4 The burial of Mrs. Mary Inskeep who died Wednesday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Edward Ballinger of Bellefontaine took place Friday at Middleburg. She was the widow of John Inskeep and had resided in the vicinity of Middleburg from 1845 until a short time ago. She was a native of North Carolina and was 72 years of age.

p1c2 Another Pioneer Dead. Mrs. Catherine Bell, widow of Phineas Bell, died Friday. She was a daughter of the late Ralph Graham who was one of the county's pioneers. Mrs. Bell leaves two sons, Silas and Alvin Bell . Funeral at M. E. church at Watkins with Rev. J. A. Smith of the Christian church officiating.

p2c1 Thomas H. Biddle died Wednesday. He was born in Union County forty-five years ago. Fora number of years he has been in the hardware business and a year ago he was one of the leading candidates for county auditor before the Republican primary. He leaves a wife and three children, the latter being married.

James Cahill, son of Uriah Cahill, died February 3 in Marion and was buried at the Cahill cemetery in York Township. He was 80 and leaves a wife. He was a grandson of L. H. Warbs of this place. p2c3 Daniel Doulan died Thursday, aged 67 years 2 months 15 days. Born December 17, 1834 in an old stone castle at Rath Downey, Queens County, Ireland. His father died and he was raised by an aunt. At 15 he went to Dublin and learned the shoemaker's trade, then with $700 he received from his father's estate, he came to America, landing in Marysville December 24, 1853. Two years later he sent for his mother, a sister and the aunt who had raised him. The latter, Mrs. Mary Murphy is still living in Columbus aged 91 years. His sister, Mrs. Anna Durmody is a resident of Keokuk, lowa. February 11, 1860 Mr. Doulan was married in Delaware to Johanna Kelley who survives him with eight children: Mrs. Hannah Haley, and Mrs. Mary Sullivan of Springfield; Mrs. Helen Spraque of Columbus, Mrs. Margaret Murphy, John, James, Lewis and Caroline Doulan. Two children are dead: Mrs. Katherine France and Edward Doulan. Mr. Doulan was in the Civil War, enlisted July 3, 1863 Co L 86" Reg. from which he was discharged February 3, 1864. Thomas Dorsey, for many years flagman at the Panhandle crossing in Milford Center died Monday. He was 85, Funeral in the Catholic Church in Milford Center. Interment, St. John Cem, this city. Isaac Hughes, a veteran of the Civil war died Monday at his home one-half mile north of Magnetic Springs. He was 70.

p5c2 Messrs. O. M. and J. J. Scott, accompanied by their wives were in Delaware to attend the funeral of their cousin, Mrs. Mollie Drake who is known as the widow of Chaplain Drake of the 121° OVI.

P5c3 Mr. and Mrs. J. N. Gosnell were at West Mansfield Saturday to join in the 75" anniversary of Mrs. Gosnell's mother, Mrs. A. M. Hartrum, whose five daughters with their husbands and families were present as follows: Mrs. and Mrs. A. T. Nove of New Albany, Mrs. Samuel Coleman of Columbus, Mrs. F. D. Gosnell of Columbus and Mrs. William Smith of Reynoldsburg.

P6c3 Mrs. Barbara Kress, Sycamore Street, passed away Wednesday after a long illness of Bright's disease. Mrs. Kress was the wife of Henry Kress who lives in Kenton. She was formerly the widow of John Doelp whose death occurred eight years ago. Mrs. Kress was a native of Darby Township There are four children of her first marriage living as follows: Mrs. Leonard Blumenschein, John L. Doelp, Mrs. George Wurtzbacher of Delaware and Mrs. Flet Moore of Versailles. Ohio.

Robert Thompson who has been making his home with his only daughter, Mrs. James A. Liggett of Walnut street died Thursday. Mr. Thompson was born near Watkins, and was 65 years, 6 months and 22 days old. He leaves a wife who also resides with Mrs. Liggett, their only child. The funeral was at the Christian church at Watkins, of which he was a member. Rev. Brown officiated.

John Wiley died Saturday. He was 65. Mr. Wiley was a soldier of the Civil war in Company B 82d OVI rising to the office of First Lieutenant and then to Captain. He was twice elected County Auditor serving from 1875 to 1883. He was a Republican. He was born in Muskingum County, Ohio June 8, 1837. Funeral was held from the residence with Rev. T. L. Wiltsee officiating and also services by Ransom Reed Post GAR.

Robert Burns Martin died Friday aged 23 years 10 months and 10 days. Diabetes. When the government issued the second call for volunteers during the Spanish-American war, Robert enlisted with Co D. Fourth OVI and returned with them in November much broken in health. Besides his mother, three sisters, Mrs. Otto Forry of Grand Junction, Colorado and Misses Jessie and Jean of this city, also two brothers, Thomas of this city and William who is at present in Butte City, Montana, are left. Funeral at family residence. Rev. E. A. King officiating. Oakdale.

Miss Bell Grimm died February 20". Consumption. She was born in Somerset, Ohio and was 18 years 8 months old when she died. Her parents Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Grimm are both dead. She has a brother and sister living. She had lived with her aunts, Misses Kathryn and Dollie Grimm.

p1c3 Died in fire of a New York hotel, Miss Edna Liggett of Denver, Colorado who was native of Jerome township and has many relatives in this vicinity. Dr. D. W Henderson of Marysville is an uncle. R. L. Woodburn is a cousin. Miss Liggett was about 45 and the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Liggett, the latter still living in her 86" year and a resident of Denver. She was employed as head trimmer in the mercantile establishment of Daniels and Fisher, and made frequent business trips to New York and Paris in that capacity. She received a salary of $4000 per year. Watkins Cemetery.

R. Henderson was found dead on the Delaware road. He graduated from Ohio Wesleyan last spring and was soon to be married. He was at present a student at Drew Theologial Seminary at Madison, N.J.

pi J. L. Jolliff, Mayor of Richwood, died Friday from consumption. He was a member of the Richwood bar. Funeral under auspices of Knights of Templar. He was 45. He leaves a widow and two children.

p3c3 LaRue News. Mrs. Mary E. Virden died February 17. She was the daughter of John and Pamelia Edgar and was born in Union County November 14, 1829. On January 17, 1849 she united in marriage with Henry Virden; to them were born two sons and two daughters; John A., eldest child born December 29, 1850, Diantha J., wife of John H. Vanorsdall born June 19, 1853, Martha A., wife of Samuel Weist , born August 24, 1857 and Norton S. born February 24, 1859 all of whom are living.

p6c1 Byhalia. Carl Lingrel was born October 20", 1900 and died February 27" 1902 age 1 year 4 months. He was the son of Melvin Lingrel and his death was caused by lung fever. Funeral at M. E. church conducted by Rev. Hammon of Essex.

Claibourne. J. C. Langstaff and wife were called by telegram to Kenton last Tuesday by Emmet Thompson on account of the serious illness of their children with measles which resulted in death to the youngest one, an infant.

p8c2 Claibourne Miss Cora, only daughter of Milton and Elizabeth Chandler died Friday after an illness of three weeks. Mrs. Chandler became afflicted with measles, which resulted in two deaths, first the father and two weeks later the daughter. Miss Cora was 14 years and 6 months of age. Funeral with Rev. J. F. Wilkins officiating. Stony Point cemetery p7 Word has been received here of the death of Mr. White, who is the father of Mrs. Frederick Kinkade of Columbus. The deceased resided in New Mexico.

p7c2 Mrs. Lucinda Leister, Bellefontain, the oldest pioneer resident, she having lived there since 1832 died Thursday. She was a sister of ex-Lieutenant Governor W. V. Marquis deceased.

The infant child of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Tyrrell, West Eighth street died Thursday after a two weeks illness with tuberculosis. Oakdale cemetery.

p8c2 C. Ross Middleton. He was born November 20, 1876 at Byhalia, O. In the Spanish war he enlisted in the Eighteenth U. S. infantry and was assigned to duty in the Phillipines,. Shortly after his return home, consumption laid its hand upon him. Funeral Monday at the home, Chaplain Beck conducting the services and the mortal remains now lie in National Cemetery.

p8c3 March 8", 1902 Leven Wright Bolenbaugh died of paralysis. He was born December 18" 1836 and was 65 years 2 months old. On October 1* 1860 he was united in marriage to Miss Alvira Harris. Five children, 3 sons and 2 daughters gladdened this home and are living in the community except Howard who died in his childhood. He enlisted in Co C 191°' Reg OVI March 2° 1865 serving until the close of the war. In 1883 he joined Ransom Reed Post of Marysville but in 1886 he became a charter member of the W. D. W. Mitchell Post of Byhalia, filling various offices. In 1895 he was its commander and again in 1897. He was chosen trustee of the township for three consecutive terms. Besides his immediate family, he leaves one grandson, a brother D. D. Bolenbaugh of Columbus. Funeral at McKendree church. York cemetery.

After a hard battle for life for the past few weeks, Gideon Liggett, of Millcreek Township and one of the most prominent citizens of the county succumbed to the inevitable at his home Monday. He was taken down with pneumonia which left his heart in such a weakened condition that he was unable to survive. The deceased was prominent figure in agricultural circles, having served as a member of the State Board of Agriculture, during which period he was treasurer of the board for a time. He was also a member of the Union County Agricultural Board six years, serving as president of this board two years.. He was born October 20, 1845 in Millcreek Township and has resided in the same township all his life. A widow and five children survive him. The children living are Mrs. Dr. McKitrick of Dublin; Charles Liggett of this city, Frank Liggett of Deshler and one son Dwight and daughter Myrta who reside at home. The deceased was a member of the IOOF of this city which order will officiate at the interment at Oakdale. The funeral services were held from his late residence.

p2c3 Robert John Frederic Sammler was born in Gefell, province Saxony Germany on February 50 1851 and his age was 51 years 1 month 8 days. His parents were strict Lutheran Christians. He learned the baker's trade and at nineteen came to this county in 1870 where he followed his trade for brief periods in New York, Cincinnati and Logansport, Ind. He returned to Germany 10 months and again came to America. He chose Marysville as his residence in 1876. He married Margaret Mader in 1890, a little 5 year old girl. The others survive him. Mr. Sammler leaves one sister, three nephews and two nieces in Germany and one sister and a niece in Toledo, besides his three daughters. Mrs. Bertha Schmidt of Toledo has been an attendant at his bedside three weeks. Services at Trinity church with German and English address by Rev. F. W. Abicht. Oakdale

Frank McCoy of Mansfield was killed Wednesday by coming in contact with a live wire. Mrs. Willard Monroe his aunt accompanied by her daughter, Mary and son Howard left at noon for Mansfield. The boy, who was fifteen years old was well-known here, having spent last summer with his aunt. p5c3 Mrs. Miriam H. Clark, wife of Sherman Clark and youngest daughter of T. F. Grant of Leesburg township died at her home near New Albany last Friday from spinal affliction, aged 33 years. She was married in 1885. She leaves a husband and seven children. Blanchard cem, Delaware Co p6 c 3,4. Tribute to Captain John Wiley. Born Muskingum County June 8" 1837, moved with his father and family to this county in 1846. He married Anna B. Bryant of Westerville, a graduate of OWU April 13" 1864 who survives. He died February 22, 1902. Capt. Wiley's father was Gen. Abraham Wiley who was for several years brigadier general in the state Militia at Zanesville and after coming to this county was elected sheriff. Capt. Wiley's mother was a sister of the noted divine, Dr. Springer, one of the founders of the Methodist Protestant church. He had no children of his own,. p8c2 A little son of Richard Patton and wife died of measles Friday, aged 3 years and 2 days.

Milton Beck was born in Champaign County April 25, 1825 where he made his home until two years ago when he and his wife moved to Broadway where he died February 24, 1902 aged 76 years 9 months 29 days. He was a member of the 134" regiment O.V.I. Died February 24. The remains were taken to Cable, Champaign County for burial. He leaves his wife, one son and one daughter.

March 26, 1902 p1ic6 Christopher Cradler, Paris Township died Sunday of heart disease. He was 73 years old and a native of Wertenburg, Germany, had resided in this township forty-two years. He leaves a widow and eight children. Funeral at the residence, Rev. Powell, of Ostrander, who preaches on the Mount Zion circuit officiated. Oakdale p2c1 Harry Frisby, aged 82, aged 82 years died Friday at the home of his sister, Mrs. L. H. Smith. Consumption. Last summer he stayed with his sister Mrs. G. W. Staley. Funeral services at the Smith home, Rev. J. S. Revennaugh officiating. Oakdale p3c2 Mrs. Emma Westlake, wife of Clarence Westlake died Monday of puerperal fever after an illness of ten days. She was a daughter of Mrs. and Mrs. Henry Lee.

p7c3 Obit Gideon Liggett was born October 20, 1845, died March 17, 1902 aged 56 years 4 months and 27 days. He was one of a family of eleven children, five of whom are still living. February 16, 1864 he was married to Mary Thompson who died August 1, 1963. To this union were born 5 children, four of whom are living. He was united in marriage to Martha E. Jennings September 14, 1882. To them was born one son who was left at the early age of 8 years without a father. He was a member and trustee of the Christian church at Watkins. He served eight years as a member of the Ohio State Board of Agriculture, his last term expired last January. He was a member of the Union County Board of Agriculture of which organization he was twice president.

p6c1 Mrs. Hilah Woodworth died Friday at eighty-six years. Had she lived until Saturday she would have died on her 70" wedding anniversary. She was the mother of sixteen chidlren. She had fifty four grandchildren and twenty three great grandchildren. Mrs. Asa Bates is her daughter. Funeral at the Christian church at Milford. Rev. C. M. Hagans of Mt. Sterling officiated.

April 9, 1902, Margaret A. Shearer widow of the late Daniel D. Shearer. Margaret Atherton was born March 16, 1816 at Shippenssburgh, Pa. In 1843 she was married to Daniel A. Finefrock who three months after their marriage was accidentally killed. In 1846 she married Daniel D. Shearer in Cumberland County, Pa. In 1853 they moved to Greene county O. and in 1859 to Union County. She was the mother of six children, four of whom preceded her to the better land. P1c5 Mrs. Martha Hoskins of Magnetic Springs died Tuesday at the home of her daughter Mrs. Roy Scott. She was 69 years old and leaves two children, S. A. Hoskins of Waponetka and Mrs. Scott, Bethelhem Cem. Also p6c3 p2c3 Dr. T. P. Shields departed Friday for Dallas, Texas to be present at the annual reunion of Confederate Veterans. Dr. Shields is commander of Ohio Camp No 1181 in Columbus and he goes as a representative of that body.

P7c2 George Erb, Toledo, who accompanied the remains of his sister Miss Elizabeth Erb last Saturday for burial returned home. Mr. Erb is in the employ of the National Supply Co. which handles all kinds of machinery and tools connected with the oil business.

Mesdames J. L. Miller, Fred Auer, John Auer and Messrs. Will Auer, John Asman,Sr and John Asman, Jr. were in Columbus Sunday to attend the funeral of Mrs. Frank Hile who was taken to the Capital for burial. She was a daughter of Mrs. John Doellinger, of this city, who, with her husband, accompanied the remains from Fostoria.

P7c3 R. D. Reed and daughter Mary left Friday for Republic, O. to attend the funeral of Mrs. Reed's father, G. A. Hisey. His death was due to a stroke of paralysis. He was 70 years old.

May 7, 1902. p2c5 Martha Newhouse Hoskins, relict of Jacob W. Hoskins was born in Delaware county August 25, 1833 and died at Magnetic Springs April 22, 1902 in the 69" year of her age. She was married to Jacob W. Hoskins July 1851. Three children were born of this marriage: Samuel A. Hoskins, now of Wapakonetka, Clara Scott_, wife of LeRoy Scott of Magnetic Springs and Minnie Hoskins an infant who died in 1871 at 11 months of age. Mr. and Mrs. Hoskins also adopted and

Bethlehem Cem. p3c2 Mrs. Edward Mahan died Thursday of typhoid fever at her home in Kenton. Her husband is a well-known traveling dry goods salesman who visits this city regularly. He is a nephew of W. S. Mahan. Funeral at Delaware where Mrs. Mahan formerly resided.

P5c1 Samuel Barnett, Taylor Township died Monday of Heart disease. Dr. W. J. Keyes was notified Monday of the sudden death from heart disease of his father W. H. Keyes Dresden, Ohio. The deceased was 69.

p8c3 Mrs. Amanda M. Deaver, daughter of William and Susan Folkwas born at Johnstown, Licking County, June 11, 1853 and died at York Township April 25, 1902, aged 48 years 10 months and 14 days. In early childhood she with her parents moved to Union County and settled near Broadway. She was married to Joseph Deaver October 10, 1872. To this union was born one child who survives with her mother. She was a member of the United Brethren church. Funeral services by Rev. E. Counsellor at the U. B. Church in York.

Obit. Melinda Warner Fulton was born in Groveland, Livingston County, New York October 27, 1821 and died April 19, 1902, aged 80 years 5 months and 23 days. She moved with her parents to this state in 1836 and settled in Union County. For the past twenty years she has lived with her son Byron F. Hawley in Champaign County. She was married to John Hawley September 13, 1853. To this marriage were born two children, Byron F. Hawley and Dora E. Fay. She leaves an aged husband, two children, Bryon F. Hawley of Woodstock and Mrs. H. D. Fay of Columbus and two step-daughters, Mrs. Belle Davis of Milford Center and Miss Delia Hawley.

Mr. Martin was born near Cincinnati and moved from there with his parents of Licking County until he moved to Union County in 1860. He leaves a wife, one daughter, Mrs. Minerva Laughery and two sons, Monro and Albert Martin. Funeral at the residence, Elder Cavis of Raymond officiated. Oakdale p5c2 The infant child of Adam Kriekbaum and wife died Sunday with pneumonia. Funeral at Trinity Lutheran church and interment at the first cemetery in the German settlement.

These are popular young people of the eastern part of the county. They will begin their married life on the Rogers farm, now owned by James Hayes, on the Delaware pike; the good wishes of their many friends will go with them to their new home.

He was about twenty-five years of age and lived with his widowed mother, Mrs. Byron Thomas near Springdale church. Interment at Mt. Hermon.

To this union was born four boys and two girls, They began home-making in Ross County, in 1861 moved to Madison County and in 1866 to Union County. Funeral at the Friends' church in Byhalia. De Witt Foster officiating. Sarah J. Wingfield was born in Clark County August 22, 1842 and died in York township May 3, 1903, aged 59 years 8 months and 13 days. In childhood her parents settled near Pharisburg. On January 26, 1868 she was married to Eli Orahood. To this union were born five boys and three girls, one boy preceding her to the better land. Her husband died September 12, 1892. She leaves four boys and three girls. Funeral in U. B. church at York conducted by Rev. E. Counsellor. Anson Barker was born in Franklin County May 11" 1847 and died near Marysville May 7° 1902. He came to Union County with his parents Jacob Barker. He was married to Flora G. Wood April 9"" 1874. To this union there was born five children, George, the oldest child died at the age of 2 years. He leaves a wife, 4 children, an aged mother, one brother and one sister. Little Bessie Marie Drum, daughter of Virgil and Hattie Drum _ was born at York December 31, 1900, died at Zanesfield April 29, 1902 aged 1 year 3 months 28 days. Funeral at the U. He settled in Union County in 1814. He was twice married, his second wife surviving him, she being a sister of the late Henry Wheeler of Marysville. There are two children, Frank Andrews, who lives on a farm adjoining the old home place, and Mrs. May Reynolds

Mrs. E.. P. Blinn died in Socorro, New Mexico. She was an aunt of Mrs. W. G. March. Mrs. Blinn was born in Newcastle, Penn. about 45 years ago. December 8, 1880 she was married to Dr. E. P. Blinn at Streeter, Ill. Her health soon began to fail and in 1882 her husband abandoned an excellent practice in Marysville, Ohio and came to New Mexico hoping the climate would help. She leaves a husband, a son and a daughter. From the Socorro Chieftain, New Mexcio.

pict William Benson, Unionville, died Monday from the effects of an old wound which he received while fighting for the Union. Mr. Benson was 76 years of age. He served nine months in Company B. 174" OVI and was discharged on account of a serious wound in his face received in battle. He was a brother-in-law of Squire George Harris . Funeral at M. E. Church at Unionville. Mitchell Cemetery. Ransom Reed Post, G. A. R. of which he was a member had charge of the funeral.

p1c2 John Webb died Sunday at the home of his daughter Mrs. Mollie Gibson, Cherry street after an illness of several weeks with heart disease and dropsy. He was born Aug. 10, 1826 in Maryland and when quite young moved with his parents to Martinsburg, Virginia. During the Civil war he was forced into the confederate service much against his will. He married Martha Jane Rainey in 1855. Ten years later he moved to Union County. Two children, Mrs. Mollie Gibson of the city and Mrs. W. Wolford of Marion out of a family of six children are left. June 4, 1902 Vol 53 No 46 pic3 Charles L. Ousler, eldest son of Richard and Catherine Ousler was born in Manchester, Carroll county, Md. November 1 1" 1855. When he was 9 the family moved to Marysville. At the age of 19 years he united with the Presbyterian church. In April 1878 Mr. Ousler was united in marriage to Miss Sylvia McDivitt who died November 1880. One son, Frank M. Ousler was born and survives the parents. October 1884 Mr. Ousler was again married to Miss Emma K.

Ambrose who, with daughter Mary E., survives him. He was employed and resided in Marysville until 1885 since which time he has been employed in the U S railway mail service until one month from his death, May 29 at Columbus, O. in the 47 year of his age.

pic5 Dr. W. F. White and family were present in Richwood Sunday at the funeral of the former's brother, Dr. Charles A. White who died Friday in a hospital in Cleveland. The deceased had commenced his professional career at Richwood a number of years ago where he married Miss Celestia Layton They afterwards moved to Cleveland. Recently his wife and their daughter went to Richwood for a visit and while there the daughter died. On Friday his own death occurred and he was buried Sunday in Richwood beside his child. Among those in attendance at the funeral were his brother David White of Mapleton, Canada; his sisters Mrs. Anna Patterson of Milford, Indiana and Dr. G. H. Gilbert of Cleveland.

p5 An east bound automobile in passing Five Points, Monday frightened a horse belonging to Newton Graham of Millcreek Township. The horse ran out the Delaware road and into the yard of J. C. Assman, Jr.'s, where it was captured. Besides breaking the harness and smashing the wheels of the buggy, the horse's feet were badly skinned and bruised. Occupants of the buggy escaped without injury.

p7c3 The remains of Jason Young who died Wednesday at his home east of the Girls' Industrial Home were brought to this city Friday by undertaker S. S. Robinson to be shipped to Santa Fe, Auglaize county where the funeral was held. Mr. Young was 54 years of age. He moved from Santa Fe to the farm where he died in April, and soon after was taken down with typhoid fever. He leaves a widow and four children.

Mrs. Levi Keeran died Wednesday, aged 67 years and 5 months. Besides her husband, seven children out of a family of twelve are left to mourn: W. W. Keeran of Woodstock; Mrs. John Knotts. George Keeran, E. M. Keeran. R. O. Keeran all of Marysville. Mrs. Henry Merit of Richwood and A. C. Keeran of Peoria, Kansas. Funeral service Friday. Rev. Gleason officiating. Oakdale p7c2 John Bailey and Fred Cameron killed each other in a fight. John Bailey is a native of Unionville, being a son of the late John P. Bailey who was a member of the 121*' regiment OVI The latter's widow is still a resident of Unionville as are also three other of her children: George Bailey, Mrs. Samuel Dunfee and Mrs. Henry Brooks.

p7c4 Mrs. Melinda McCloud, Union Township, died Friday at the home of her daughter Mrs. L. H. Elliott near Chuckery. She would have been 73 on July 12". She was the widow of James McCloud. Three children survive: Mrs. Elliott, Mrs. Fletcher Morse of Garnet, Kansas and Jerry McCloud, who resides on the old Powers farm west of Marysville. Mrs. McCloud was a cousin of Mrs. J. J. Morelock of this city. Funeral services were Monday.

Mrs. Maria Warner passed away Friday at her home of West Fifth street at the age of 70 years 4 months and 17 days. Mrs. Warner was born in Pickaway county from whence she moved with her parents when ten years of age to Liberty township. In 1852, she married Abishia Warner then a resident of Perry Township, Logan County, and to this union was born four children, three of whom preceded the father whose death occurred in 1892. One daughter, Mrs. Edward Wirrick of New Jerusalem is left. One sister, Mrs. Margaret Epps of North Lewisburg and a brother Daniel Cline of Allen Township also survive. Funeral with Rev. T. L. Riley Fox committed suicide rather than arrest. Miss Lozina Fox swore out a warrant against her brother Riley Fox for threatening to kill her. He was 45. His brother Willard D. Fox found him.

pic3 Samuel S. McDivitt died Friday at National Hospital in Washington D. C. He was sent about a year ago to the government hospital for the insane. During his early life he was graduated from an eastern medical college and up to the time of his enlistment in the army was a practitioner. He served through the greater part of the war with credit and after his discharge took up the trade of shoemaker which he had learned under his father. Oakdale. Funeral service was held at the grave by Rev. T. L. Wiltsee. A number of civil war veterans were present.
