p5c1 Kimber Titsworth died in Indiana. He had been in the employ of a Mr. Rose who owns a large stock farm and makes a specialty of raising and training fast horses. He was in his 26th year. The remains were shipped to Mt. Victory, buried in the family burial lot. mt 7-24- p 1 c8 Kimber Titsworth was the eldest son of William Titsworth.

Funeral services by Rev. Hagans. Mitchell Cem. also p6c1,Unionville. mt 7-24- John Cooperider died July 21*' aged 72 years 8 months 26 days. He was born in Perry county October 25, 1822. He removed with his parents William and Susanna Cooperider to Union County when about 8 years old. He was united in marriage to Caroline M. Carter March 7, 1844 to which union were born eight children, six boys and two girls. He enlisted in the 121° Regiment OVI August 16"" 1862 and remained with his regiment until the battle of Jonesboro, Ga. Sept. 1, 1864 where he received injuries so severe that he never returned to his regiment. He united with Mt. Olive Christian church December 17, 1871. There remains to mourn, four sons, two daughters and three sisters all of whom are living except one daughter. Also mt 7-24

The contract was let Saturday for Mr. R. L. Partridge's new house on West Seventh Street, Messrs O. N. White of Columbus and Chas. Denman of this city were awarded the contract jointly, their bids being the same. Messrs. Plate & Fry will supply the material and the work will soon begin. It will be about a $2500 house.

p5c4 Sanford H. Rosette died Friday. He was a trader and horse dealer. He was 36 years and 5 months and leaves a wife and two children. Funeral services conducted by Rev. W. J. Hodges. Oakdale Cem . mt 7-31 Mr. Rosette was a native of Richwood, born there March 26", 1859. On February 7", 1881 he was united in marriage to Miss Estelle Jewell daughter of ex-county Treasurer, Samuel Jewell mt 7-31-1895 Mrs. Lafayette Abbottof Lancaster who had been visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Pearse, was apprised Monday of the death of her husband at the Pulmonary hospital in Columbus, She went at once to Columbus accompanied by Mr. John Cartmell who made arrangements for removal of the remains to Lancaster. Burial will be attended by Mr. and Mrs. Pearse and Mrs. and Mrs. Cartmell of this city. Mr. Abbott was the brother of Mrs. Salem Pearse. August 8, 1895 no 10 p5c1 Miss Mary Winget about 20 years, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Llewellyn Winget died Monday and funeral conducted by Rev. W. M. Haines.

John Jenkins, an aged inmate of the infirmary died Wednesday and was buried Thursday at Hopewell. Mr. Jenkins was born in Louden County W. Va. He was 89 years 6 months and 9 days old.

p5c2 Little Lottie D. Reams died at the home of her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. B. F. Daugherty on the Colling pike last week and was buried Friday. Rev. Wm. Haines was the officiating clergyman.

p4 Ora Davis died Monday aged 20 years 3 months. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Davis. April 12, 1894 he married Miss Minnie Beightler. Milford Cem. Mt 8-14 p1c1

Obit. Mary L. Winget was born near Marysville August 29, 1876. Her parents, Llewellyn and Martha Winget were born in Union County. The mother died about ten years ago leaving a family of eight. Mary, striving to fill the mother's place at the age of thirteen and has had charge of the family for the past six years. mt 8-14 p5c2 p8c6 Died Monday, July 29, Mr. Lafayette Abbott of Clearport, O. He will be remembered here, having often visited his sister, Mrs. Salem Pearse. Mr. Abbott was one of Fairfield county's prosperous citizens. He was born September 24, 1830. During the late war he enlisted in the 73d Ohio, and was with Sherman on his march to the sea, was wounded in the arm while putting a cap on his gun, July 20, 1864, at the close of the engagement at Peach Tree Creek, Hood's first flight. The wound made amputation necessary. He was mustered out at Camp Dennison in November 1865, since which time he has managed a large genreral store which was established many years ago at Clearport by his father. For several years after the war he served as assistant revenue collector. At the time of his death he was one of the principal stockholders in the Lancaster Bank. Besides a wife and several children, he leaves a brother, John Abbott and two sisters, Mrs. Nourse and Mrs. Salem Pearse of Marysville.

The little two year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Marion A. Shuler of Dover township who died Sunday of cholera infantum was buried at Oakdale . Rev. L. C. Webster preached the funeral. p5 Frank Noyes, 20, was killed by the cars Saturday. He had been employed baling hay and had boarded the train to go to Plain City

Broadway. The funeral sermon of Mrs. Ella Gilbson, nee Collins who died recently near Worthington was preached by Rev. Hill. She was the daughter of John and Bettie Collins. She was aged 23 and was married to James Gibson about four years ago. She leaves her husband and two children. p6c4 Watkins. Will Beard who has lived in Hardin County for the last two years was buried at Buxton cemetery.. Woodruff of Worthington. His parents, Mrs. and Mrs. Foster Beard moved to Hardin county in the spring of '94.

Miss Minnie Florence Marks, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Marks Sycamore street, died Sunday of typhoid fever, aged 27 years 7 months and 18 days. Funeral conducted by Rev. W. M. Haines, Oakdale Cem Mrs. Anna Bellville died August 15, buried Oakdale. She was born in Belmont County January 16 1816. At the age of 16, she and her mother came to this county. On the 20" of October 1836, she was married to Mr. Nicholas Bellville to which union eight children were born, seven of whom are living. She joined church at 14. She leaves seven children, fourteen grandchildren and eleven great grand-children. Funeral at Blues Creek church. Rev. Mr. Williams officiating. Her maiden name was Reed mt 8-28-1895 p1c1 Obit. William C. Beard, only son of F. L. & S. P. Beard was born near New Dover September 28, 1869 and died at his home near North Washington, Hardin county, August 17,. 1895, aged 25 years 10 months 17 days. He was the eldest of a family of seven children, five of whom with their parents survive him.

mt 8-28-1895 Mrs. William Howard died at the residence West Sixth street Saturday. Mary Jane Reynolds was born in Philadelphia, Pa. Nov. 25, 1834; was married to William Howard near Reynoldsburg,O. March 25, 1852 by Rev. Archibald Fleming of the Ohio Conference of the M. E. church and died at her home in Marysville, Aug. 25, 1895, aged sixty years and nine months. She was the mother of six children, two of whom, Mrs. Zoda Mills and Rolla M. Howard, together with her husband, survive her. She was a member of the M. E. church at Reynoldsburg. She was initiated into Magnetic Rebekah Lodge at Marysville on the night of its institution and has always been an active member so far as her health permitted. Left without the care of her mother before she was ten years old she bravely assumed the duties of housekeeper, and with the aid of a younger sister performed the househole duties for her father, three brothers and one still younger sister for about four years.

Cecil Enid Hanawalt, daughter of Chas. Hanawalt and wife died at their home near Watkins Friday aged 1 year 11 months and 6 days. Funeral conducted by Rev. Rogers. Watkins Cemetery. mt 8- 28-p8c5 p5c3 Alex.Rogers a young colored man residing with his mother and step-father on south Plum street died Tuesday of typhoid fever in his 27" year. mt 8-28-p8c5 George Alexander Rogers was born March 21, 1871 at Richwood and moved that year with his parents to this place.

p8c5 Died at the residence of her son, S. P. Galloway near Eagle Chief, Oklahoma Territory, on August 22d, 1895 Harriet B. Galloway. She was born near Irwin Ohio March 8, 1822 and was the oldest daughter of Col. James C. Miller. She was married September 21, 1837 to James R. Galloway who died April 1893. To them were born eight children, five of whom are living. She was blind during the last 13 years of her life, 11 of which she has resided with her daughter, Mrs. Hattie Dancerat Elk City, Kansas.

p5c2 Mabel Hazen, only daughter of the late F. F. Hazen died of typhoid fever Monday. She was past 12 years of age. Funeral at residence, West Seventh St. conducted by Rev. W. S. Bugbey. Oakdale mt Sept. 4 p5c6 p5c4 John Struble who has been visiting in Van Wert the last several weeks died there Tuesday and his remains were brought here for interment.

p6c3 Raymond. William Wallace Moor was born April 5, 1846 and died Aug. 28, 1895, aged 49 years, 4 months and 23 days. Typhoid. Funeral at Mill Creek Disciple church, Rev. Galleher officiating.

mt September 11 p1c2,3. Frederick Partridge Sager, only son of F. J. Sager for many years county surveyor of Union County, died Wednesday. He was the only grandson of R. L. Partridge. Born in Marysville in 1877. Funeral in Columbus, interment Oakdale pic6 Mrs. Hannah Converse Thompson was born on the farm now occupied by John Scott, south of Plain City, February 16 She was married to Walter S. Thompson in the house in which she died January 12, 1853, John P. Bowers, Edq. Performing the ceremonty. On January 12, 1883, just thirty years from her marriage Mr. Thompson died, since which she remained a widow to her death which occurred Tuesday, September 18956. She leaves a daughter. Mrs. Mae Fryer , ason, Carl, and another daughter Mrs. Lyda Roser. Both daughters reside at Richmond, Ind., the son here, and all were present at her death. She was a member of the Universalist church and Rebeckah branch of odd Fellowship. Rev. J. W. Henley officiated at the services at the Universalist church, conducted by the Rebekah Lodge .

Plain City. John Converse of Indianapolis and Mrs. Dell Patrick Carter of Urbana attended the funeral of their aunt Mrs. Frances Thompson last week. They also visited their uncle C. H. Converse at Unionville.

p5c6 The death Monday of Isaac Shirkpreceded a few hours by the death of his wife. His death ws thought to have been caused by typhoid fever, while that of Mrs. Shirk resulted from a complaint of long standing. Funeral were Tuesday at the Disciple church near Liberty Station, p4c4 W. J. Thompson of New Dover died Sunday. Oakdale cemetery. He was an excellent telegrapher. He was the victim of a railroad accident several years ago that cost him his left arm at the shoulder. He was 41.

p1c6 Watkins. Mrs. Maria Battees died at her home in Oraville, supposed to have been brought on by over exertion trying to drive live stock out of a cornfield on a very hot day. Funeral at Jerome conducted by Rev. Caris, assisted by Rev. Roberts. The remains were placed in the vault at that place.

John Mathers died at his home on London Ave. Monday of cancer of the stomach, aged 62 years 8 months and 13 days. He leaves a widow and family of eight children all married but two. Funeral services conducted by Rev. W. M. Haines. Oakdale cemetery.

p4c6 Ex-Commissioner, Jehu Gray, Washington Township, died at his home about a mile morth of Byhalia Saturday, aged 68 years 6 months 3 days. He was buried with Masonic honors in the Byhalia church. He served the county six years on the Board of Commissioners. Mr. Brackney of the M. E. church preached the sermon.

p6c3 Sattie E. Stamats, daughter of M. F. and Mary Stamats was born October 27, 1871 and died September 10, 1895. She spent three years in Hillsdale, Michigan pursuing a musical education. Typhoid fever. Funeral services conducted by Rev. A. Edwin Smith, assisted by her pastor, Rev. Brackney.

mt October 2 Broadway. The remains of Guy Colver brought by his father Horace Colver from California. Arrived Wednesday, buried in Ford cemetery Thursday.

mt p1c1 Obit. Anna Maria Hill was born February 14. 1827 in Germany and departed this life September 9, 1895 aged 68 years 7 months 6 days. At the age of two years she emigrated to this country where she resided until her death. In the year 1847 she united in marriage with Israel Hill. To this union were born seven children, four of whom preceded her to the spirit world while in infancy. She united with the church at the age of 14 and had been a consistent and faithful Christian. October 3, 1895 Volume XXII no 15 p5c3 Miss Anna Caryl, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Caryl, London road, died Friday of typhoid fever. She was in her 18" year. Funeral at the home conducted by Rev. W, S, Bugbey. Oakdale cemetery. Also mt Oct. 2 p 3 c2 p5c4 Mrs. Anna Mathers, 28 years, died at the infirmary Friday of consumption. Remains buried at Somersville. Also mt p3c1 She leaves two children who are inmates at the home.

mt October 9 p5c2 David Morrisey, a prominent citizen of Woodstock died Saturday of inflamation of the bowels. The funeral was at the home by Father J. G. Veneman. Burial at Woodstock.

Oct. 16 p4c4 She was born in Union County July 22"°, 1879 and died October 5, 1895, 18 years 2 months 3 days. She leaves a mother, sister, brother to mourn her departure.

c3 Charles Ellsworth Gamble, the 21 year old son of Mrs. and Mrs. Jno. B.& Lucy Gamble died Saturday of catarrah of the stomach. He was a member of the M. E. church. Funeral in the church at New Dover. Rev. W. N. Haines officiating. Mt. Herman cem. Also New Dover p 6 c3; mt Oct 9 p5c2

Mrs. John Hoover, North Main Street died Monday from typhoid. Funeral in Union church in Taylor Township, Rev, W. M. Haines officiating. She was 28 and leaves a husband but no children. She was a sister of Chas. Price who was the second victim of typhoid fever in the early part of the epidemic.

p5c5 Thomas H. Davin, Darby Township died October 3. Mr. Davin was born in Clifton, Galway County, Ireland about 1827. He came to this country when a lad of 13 alone and soon after he found a good home with a Quaker family in Pennsylvania. Here he remained until 21. He then came to Ohio August 20th, 1861 he enlisted in Co F. of the 54 OVI and received a gun shot wound at Pittsburg landing. He was in every battle that Gens. Grant and Sherman fought from Pittsburg Landing to Atlanta, including the siege of Vicksburg. He was wounded and taken prisoner on the 22" of July '64 and spent four months in Andersonville. He was exchanged on the 20" of November '64 and discharged Jan. 20 '65. He returned home and that year was united in marriage to Miss Mary C. Ridgeway. To this union were born five children, three of them dying in infancy Mrs. Davin died May 21, '73 leaving the husband and two little boys. Funeral services under the auspices of Ransom Reed Post. Also p6c1, Unionville, mt 10-16 p4c4 p5c4 Mrs. Will Moore whose husband was connected with J. Brubaker in the Factory store a year ago, died in Ashland Tuesday of last week by suicide.

October 16, 1895 mt p1 c2 Miss Bessie Mcllroy, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John M. Mcllroy, near Raymonds, died Monday. It resulted in brain fever, thought to have been caused by a fall from a buggy. She was a member of the Senior Class at Marysville HS. Funeral at M. E. church in Raymond. She was 18 years of age.

John Henry Sellers died October 10. He was a native of Carroll county, Maryland. He was born February 5, 1840 and died at the age of 55years 8 months 5 days. He came to Ohio in November 1857 and took up residence in Marysville. October 28, 1880 he was united in marriage to Nancy Jane Alexander and to them were born six children, four sons and two daughters, all but one son who died in infancy survives the father. Funeral services were in charge of Rev. L. C. Webster who officiated at their marriage thirty five years ago. Oakdale mt p 1c6 Frank P. Stiner of Tiffin was born February 10" 1853 and died October 10" 1895 aged 42 years and 8 months. He was married November 9, 1872 to Miss Sarah Loucks who with three sons and two daughters survive him. He was a member of the M. E. church at Dover. He was a charter member of the K of P Lodge of that place. He was a resident of this county until 1891 when he moved to Tiffin. mtp5Sc6 Springfield. William Diehl died October 10 at the age of 76 years of heart failure, aggravated by an attack of lagrip. He was born in Reinhelm, Prussia and came to this country with his father in 1832. He was married in 1844 to Miss Catherine Frankenburg and their one son William is now here on business. After her death he married Miss Adna Rowshe who with three children survive him. Sellers found his disease to be cancer of the rectum. p5c4 Deaths Henry Kezertee of York Township died at his late residence Saturday, almost 85 years, having been born October 26, 1810. In 1838 he was a resident of this city and that year built and for a long time afterward kept what is at present the Continental hotel, corner Fifth and Plum streets. Miss Bessie Mcllroy, the eighteen year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John M. Mcllroy, Liberty Township died Monday. She was a member of the senior class. She had brain fever. also p 5c1; mt 10-30 p 7 c5 Miss Bessie, M. daughter of John M. & Emma Mcllroy was born November 15, 1877 and died October 14, 1895 aged 17 years 10 months 29 days. Funeral at Raymonds M. E. church. Rev. Stratton preached. Jacob C. Cradler, son of Christopher Cradler died at Newkirk, Oklahoma Territory October 4. His remains would not permit transportation so he had to be buried in the Territory. He was born in 1863, attended college at Delaware, Ohio, became one of Union County's school teachers and then left for the west in 1888. He was engaged in the real estate business for the last three years in Oklahoma. Robert F. Lee was born in Hampshire County W. Virginia Feb. 14, 1824. The family moved to this state in 1833, settling in Clark County where they remained one year and then came to this county. He was married in 1847 to Miss Eleanor J. Abraham, and to this union were born two children. Mrs. Lee died in 1852 and in 1854 Mr. Lee again married. His second wife was Sarah F. Gabriel who with five children mourn the loss. Mr. Lee was a member of the Christian church, a Democrat in politics, and a good citizen. Funeral services were held with Revs. Hagans and Taylor officiating. also mt 10- 16 p5c3 Frank Stiner of Tiffin who formerly resided between the city and New Dover died Friday. Remains were brought here for burial. Funeral services at the New Dover church, conducted by Rev. L. C. Webster. Mt. Hermon cem. He was in his 43 year. Nelson Dilts, one of our well-known and highly respected colored citizens died in his home in North Court street Saturday, aged in his 60" year. Funeral services at A. M. E. church conducted by Rev. P. Alson, a former pastor and remains were taken to North Lewisburg for interment. mt 10-16 Nelson Diltz was born in Cynthiana Ky. about 65 years ago. He came to Ohio and lived at Springfeld and North Lewisburg before he came to Marysville about ten years ago. His wife died in 1882. Two daughters survive, one of whom had been living with her father, the other being Mrs. N. Freeman of this city. Also mt 10-16-1895 p5c5 John H. Sellers was born in Carroll County, Maryland February 5, 1840. He came to this county in his year and was united in marriage with Miss Nancy J. Thos. R. Drum, an inmate of the infirmary died Sunday. Rev. Wm. Haines conducted the funeral service. Mr. Drum was born December 4, 1857, was married to Mary E. Richie December 2, 1880 and to their union seven children were born, four of whom are still living. Mr. Drum joined the M. E. church in 1886 and was a consistent member there.

p7c5 Harry D. Elliott, son of Harvey Elliott was born in Union County November 20", 1891 and died October 7", 1895 aged 3 years 10 months 17 days. Funeral serves at Peoria chapel conducted by Rev. L. Rice of West Mansfield- Oakdale cemetery.

October 31, 1895. p5c1 Benj. Hartram/Hartrum aged 73 years, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Johnson in York Township Friday and was buried at Peoria. Mr. Hartram was the father of Mrs. J. N. Gosnell, the wife of our county clerk. Also mt 10-30-1895 p1c6 (Spelled Hardum) Benjamin Hardum moved to Franklin county in 1843 where he was married to Margaret Browning, May 4, 1844. There were born to this union eight children, two of whom have gone before. Besides the children, he leaves a wife, two sisters, one brother. He was a member of the 133d O.V.I. and served during the war in the defenses about Washington D. C. and in the army of the Potomac.

c2 Henry Melching died at his home on Sycamore street north of the T. & O, C. Tuesday in his 76" year. Mr. Melching was a millwright and wagon maker by trade and a splendid workman. Funeral conducted by Father J. S. Venneman of the Catholic church. also mt 10-30-1895 p5c4 Mr. Melching leaves a family of grown up children all of whom are married.

He was mustered into the service Feb. 27, 1864 in Co G. 27" Colored troops for a period of three years. He was mustered out with the regiment Sept. 21, 1865 at Smithville, N.C. He was a member of the GAR. Also mt 10-30-1895 p1c4 Martin Richardson was born in North Carolina. About 1865 he was united in marriage to Loretta Chavous who died 1883. Of their eight children, six are living. P5c5 Frank Scott, a young colored man was a barber at Richwood. He was fatally injuired in a railroad accident. He was 27. Oakdale

Mr. J. M. Brodrick received a telegram announcing the death of his brother Isaac at Montpelier, Ind. Typhoid. Isaac Walter Brodrick was the third son of Isaac Brodrick of Allen township and was aged 37 years 7 months 15 days. He was a member of the K of P and KOTM orders and was clerk of the town of Montpelier.Mr. Brodrick went to Indiana in the spring of '88 and engaged in farming. In '92 he located in Montpelier where he became a telegraph operator and express agent in the railroad office. In '94 he was elected town clerk and reelected last spring. He leaves a wife and five young daughters.

p5c2 Mrs. Wolf Mader aged 73 years, who has been afflicted with dropsy died Tuesday at the home of her son-in-law Charles Nicol in the settlement. Funeral at the Settlement church.

Edward Royl died at the home of his brother William Royl of Woodland Thursday. He came to Union County last spring from Tennessee.. About two weeks ago he was stricken with typhoid fever. He was past thirty years of age and leaves a wife.

mt 8c4 Richwood. Edward Higgins died November 3 near Essex. He was born in Ireland and at the age of 14 came to America and settled in Pennsylvania. When the war between Mexico and the United States broke out he enlisted in th United States army. He was in all the hardest fought battles of that war, was in the Indian wars in Texas and the far west. He served one year and seven months in the war of the late Rebellion. At the time of his discharge he was a member of the 18" Regulars, p5c2 Elizabeth Moder, relict of the late Wolf Moder died at the home of her son-in-law Chas. Nicol in her 79" year. Her funeral was held in the Settlement church following the interment Thursday afternoon.

p5c5 Minnie McMillin died Friday. She had been sufferiong from a liver problem. Her mother died when she was quite young and for seven years she made her home with the late Capt. John Rathbun. At the age of ten she went to live with Mr. and Mrs. A. S. Turner. She was a teacher. and a member of the M. E. church. Funeral at the residence, Eighth and Plum conducted by Rev. W. m. Haines assisted by Prof. W. H. Cole. Oakdale. Miss McMillin was born February 15, 1867 and was 29. Also mt Nov.6p5c5 mt November 13, 1895 p1c6 Raymonds James Hodge died Wednesday and was buried at Disciple cemetery on Millcreek. Services were conducted by Lemuel Ballenger.

Mt p8c4 Woodstock. Mrs. Lucretia Gager passed into the high life November 8". She was born in Vermont, October 25", 1802. She came to Woodstock in 1845. She was twice married, first to a Mr. Clark and last to Marvin Gager who survives her. She leaves three daughters, one son and several grandchildren. Funeral services at the church, Rev. Lotta D. Crosley of Columbus, an old time friend, officiated. assisted by Dr. J. W. Hensley.

November 14, 1895 p4c2 William Otte is dead. Mr. Otte was born in Hanover, Germany August 1838 and was in his 58" year. He came to the country in 1857 and located in Cincinnati but soon went to Richmond, Ind. where he resided fourteen years. While a resident of Richmond, he met and married Miss Kate Werner and to their union was born ten children. Mr. Otte learned the trade of a tailor and cutter before leaving his native country. In 1871 he moved to Marysville and entered into partnership with his brother F. H.Otte in the clothing and merchant tailoring business. After ten years they dissolved the partnership and Mr. Otte continued the business alone. His funeral was at his late residence on West Fourth Street conducted by Rev. F. W. C. Weichers. Oakdale p5c2 Geo. H. Steinmetz has begun the erection of a new residence on South Maple. George Fox will do the stone and brick work and Charley Denman the carpenter work.

November 20, 1895 p8c2 Miss Emma E. Milledge died of consumption November 2nd. She was born May 16" 1874. Funeral at Universalist church at Woodstock. Dr. J. W. Henley officiating.

November 21, 1895 p 4.c1,2,3. Rev. Wilbur H. Hodges, pastor of the M. E. church of Marysville died at the parsonage corner of Plum and Seventh Street of typhus pneumonia after an illness of six weeks. Funeral service in the church auditorium by presiding elder, Rev. J. M. Avann of Delaware. Rev. Wilbur J. Hodges was born in Sandwich, Ill. Oct. 15, 1845 and died in Marysville Nov. 16, 1895, aged 50 years and 1 month. When he was an infant his parents moved to Ashland county O. After completing the common schools he entered college at O. W. U., Delaware to prepare for teaching and it was not until his senior year that the conviction came to preach the gospel. He graduated OWU June 1873 and entered the Central Ohio Conference of the Methodist Episcopal church. August 15, 1877 he was married to Miss Addie Bortel . Buried Kenton.

p5 Death of Mrs. Thos. Sidey in Lonconing Md. She mistakenly took carbolic acid. Mr. Sidey had been a photographer in Marysville several years.

p5c4_ Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Parthemore, Darby township were parents of a son aged 18 anda daughter aged 16. The daughter, Tina died Thursday of quick consumption. Before the funeral her brother Clarence died of typhoid fever. The funeral was postponed and the funerals were held jointly, brother and sister buried in one grave at Milford Center.

p5c8 Mr. Fred Otte, a brother, and Messrs H. Blomler and F. Wipker, brothers-in-law and Mrs. Lizzie Simpson of Richmond, Ind. attended the funeral of the late W. Otte.

Mt November 27, 1895 p 1c6 Mr. Andrew Taylor, an aged and honored citizen of Union County for many years, very suddenly and unexpectedly departed this life, of typhoid fever, November 23d,

1895 at the age of 70 years, 10 months and 3 days. He was born in Jerome township, Union County, Ohio, January 20" 1825, but was a prominent, active and prosperous business man and citizen of Dover township about 40 years. In 1847 he was united in marriage with Elizabeth Meeker(it was Mitchell), with whom he lived for nearly forty years until her death. Eleven children crowned this union, seven of whom are still living. In A. D. A. D. 1888, he was united in marriage with Mrs. Elizabeth Smith who now survives him. For the last year or more he found a quiet home in Marysville, on East Fifth street, where he had just completed suitable improvements and conveniences, when by death he was called to the heavenly mansion prepared for him and for which he had been preparing for years. He was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church at New Dover, for a good many years, and very naturally felt it to be his religious home, and where his funeral services were held Monday, November 25", conducted by Rev. L. C. Webster, assisted by Rev. Ferguson, of the Presbyterian Church. He was borne to the Mitchell cemetery, where he had prepared for himself a burial place, and where he now sleeps, awaiting the voice of the Archangel and the trump of God. Mt November 27p5c4 Mrs. Charlotte, wife of Emmet E. Freeman burned to death near Emmettburg, Wood county. She left York October 14 to join her husband who was there putting out lumber, and with some hands were trying to board themselves. She thought she would go and cook for them. She poured some turpentine into a boiler of clothes, the fluid caught fire and she was enveloped in flames. She was brought to York and laid to rest in the cemetery. p8c2 Raymonds. The year old babe of T. J. Skidmore who formerly resided here but who is now living at Frankfort, Ind. died of typhoid fever last Tuesday. mt 11-27-1895 Lord Lathrop was born October 6, 1806, He moved with his parents, Benjamin & Betsy Lathrop about theyear 1817 or 1818 and settled in Union County near where Nathan Howard now lives. About 48 years ago he moved with his family to Mahasha county, lowa where he died October 28, 1895. Of his father's family seven children that grew to manhood and womanhood in and around Milford Center, only two are living. John Rice of Missouri, 85 years old, and Warren Lathrop of lowa, aged 80. P. Cranston Anna Dillon Carrol, daughter of Job and Almira Dillon was born November 2oth 1864 and died October 14", 1895, aged 30 years, ten months and 24 days. She was united in marriage December 11, 1884 with M. W. Carrol at Meadville, Pa. and to them were born two sons and a daughter who are left in their early childhood without the care of a kind devoted mother. Consumption. She leaves a husband, three little children, father, mother, brother. Funeral services were held at the Christian church at Raymond. Rev. C. A. Williams officiating. Interment was made at Raymond cemetery.

lva Dirst, about 10, Richwood, was placed in the infirmary last week. Tuesday she jumped from a third story window of the infirmary, receiving injuries that produced death. She was buried in Richwood cemetery. She was the daughter of Ed Dirst, the drunkard, and her life was a continual strom of sorrow, pain and trouble.mt p 5 c4 Her father was released from the penitentiary recently. p5c5 Margaret Henrietta Agner was born July 12, 1836 near Harper's Ferry, Va. and died Nov. 25, 1895, aged 59 years 4 months and 13 days. Her parents were taken from her when she was a little child, leaving her under the care of her grandmother. She was the daughter of Joseph & Emeline Burns and came with her parents from Virginia to Clark county when about a year old. She was united in marriage Oct. 11, 1860 to W. H. Agner. To his union were born four children, two boys and two girls, one son preceding her seven years, a month and a day. Funeral services at the home conducted by Rev. L. C. Webster. p8c4 Richwood. November 30 John L. Roberts committed suicide by shooting himself with a shot gun. He leaves a wife and several children. Journal p6 c1 p5c5 Mrs. Elizabeth Mullen, relict of the late Chas. L. Mullen died Saturday at her home on East Fifth street aged 67 years 3 months 18 days. She was born in Franklin County near Dublin, where she resided until her union with Mr. Mullen, April 1, 1851. She leaves three sons and two step-sons. Funeral at the residence conducted by Rev. W. S. Bugbey.

December 12. 1895 p4c3 John Bartholomai died Sunday. He was the second son of Mr. and Mrs. Tobias Bartholomai and was born Dec. 17, 1868. On the 22"° of May 1892, he was united in marriage to Miss Anna, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Philip Vanderau and to this union was born one child, ason. Some years ago he went to Washington territory, now a state, with his older brother Andrew and there engaged in the manufacture of cigars, the business his father has alway carried on in this city. He remained there two years, then returned home. He leaves a wife and little sons besides parents, a brother and sisters. Funeral services conducted by Rev. F. W. C. Weicher. December 19, 1895 p6c3 Mrs. Isaiah Brown of Darby Township was buried in the Mitchell cemetery yesterday. She died Monday of typhoid pneumonia, leaving a husband and three grown children. January 8 Vol 56 No 24 Harris Welton Scott, who had been identified with the boot and shoe trade died in Marysville. He was 60 years 11 months and 28 days. Services conducted by Rev. W. S. Bugbey of Congregational church, Oakdale Cemetery., The deceased was born in Oswego county, New York, January 4, 1835. Four children survive.

p4c1 Catharine King Snodgrass was born in Stanton, Virginia January 6, 1876. She removed with her parents to Kentucky in 1800 and to Greene county, Ohio in 1807. September 5, 1816 she was married to Ralph R. Phelps and to them were born four children, only one of whom, William G, 65, is still living, and now resides at Arapahoe, Nebraska. Mr. Phelps died February 6, 1831 and she was married to James Snodgrass March 12, 1835. To them were born two children all of whom are now dead. The father died p5c2 The thirteen year old daughter of Adam Rausch,Jr. died Friday at the home of her father. She was one of twin children. Funeral in Settlement church.,

Mary S. Ziegler daughter of Nicholas S. and Elizabeth Ziegler, Columbus died New Year's Day. p5c5 Garrison W. Newlove, the eldest brother of Marshal John Newlove died Saturday in Richwood aged 67 years. Funeral services at Hopewell church. A wife and three children survive. Mr. Newlove resided for several years in lowa, but moved to Richwood a year ago.

c6 Unionville. Archie Smith died January 8, 35 years. He was a graduate of Poughkeepsie New York and also of the Pyrotechnical school at Ft. p5c4 Moses Laird died Monday., He came to this city about two years ago from Leesburg Township. He was born in Raphoa Parish, Donegal county, Ireland October 31, 1819. At the age of eighteen he came to America where he lived for some time in and around Philadelphia. Coming to Ohio in 1840, he first settled in Guernsey county, then removed to Fairfield county and from there to Pickaway county where he purchased 100 acres of land which he sold in 1850 for $4000. At this time he came to Union county and became the owner of a hundred acre farm in Liberty township which has since grown to 240 acres. Deceased was thrice married, and was the father of nineteen children, fifteen of whom are living. The last wife was Miss Phoebe Hanawalt who survives him. At his death he was 76 years 2 months and 12 days old. Funeral services at New Dover Church conducted by Rev. I. C. Webster. Burial at Mt. Hermon.

January 22, 1896 Vol 56 No 26 p5c5 Mrs. Barbara Moder died Friday aged 72. The burial took place at the settlement church. Rev. Werfleman officiating. Mrs. Moder was born in the kingdom of Bavaria and came with her husband and two children to this country in 1850. She was the mother of eleven children all of whom are living except two. Her husband, George Moder, has been dead two years.

January 29, 1896 p 1c2 Minnie Dodge, oldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Mitchell was born August 22, 1865 and died January 3, 1896. She leaves a husband and four small children. She was pi1c4 Plain City The remains of Clifford Towey, 18, was brought here from Columbus where he died of typhoid fever. The burial took place on the Atkinson lot in the old cemetery.

p5c5 Arthur H. Edwards, 21, died at the home of his grandmother, Mrs. Emeline Kellogg Tuesday. Arthur was the son of David Edwards. He has been working in the Photograph gallery of Elon Smith. Samuel Bonnett was born in Marshal county West Virginia, March 13, 1881 and died in Leesburg Township January 24, 1896 aged 77 years 10 months and 11 days. Served in the Mexican War and on the frontier from 1849-1861. Was mustered out of the 18th regulars in 1863. Term of service over twenty years. Died November 3, 1895. T. D. Qwens born in Mechanicsburg January 13, 1831, graduated from Starling Medical College, Columbus in 1853. Volunteered in the 110 OVI August 20, 1862 as assistant surgeon; discharged April 20, 1864 on account of disability. Died August 16, 1895 and was buried at Mechanicsburg. p5c1 Will Rhodes, a brakeman on the Big Four, living at Ostrander, was killed at Edgemont Bridge Friday while discharging his duties. p5c4 William Webber died Tuesday,k age 56. His remains were conveyed to the home of his son-inlaw, Mr. Charles Braun where funeral services were held. Oakdale Cem. He was a Union soldier during the war of the rebellion. Mr. Webber was born in the kingdom of Prussia and with his parents came to this country when 12 years old.

February 12, 1896 No 29 Vol 56 Chuckery p1c4 Mrs. Kunst, wife of the Lutheran minister of this place, died at her home Sunday She leaves a babe about four weeks old. The funeral was at the Lutheran church. The remains were taken to near Hilliards for interment also p5c1 p1c4 Watkins. Died at the home of Mr. Robert Thompson, Mrs Matilda Darling of Newton. She was visiting her sister when she was taken with the third stroke. Interment at Mt. Hermon.

p1c6 Obit.Mrs. Matilda McIntire Darling was born in Union County January 20, 1843, died at Peoria, O. February 5, 1896, aged 53 years and 16 days. Mrs. Darling was married to Joseph Darling October 11, 1875. To this union were born two children a girl and boy, the son dying when quite a little child in 1892. She joined the UB church at Peoria. She leaves a husband, a daughter, four brothers and 3 sisters. Funeral was held at Dover conducted by Rev. Roberts. Mt. Hermon Cem p4c2 Benjamin Black died from the effects of a stab in the breast inflicted by Edward Parnell. He exonerated Parnell from all blame.

February 12, 1896 p5c4 Lewis H. Johnson son of A. A. Johnson died this morning at his home in Zanesville at the age of 29 years. He was agent of the Union News Company of Zanesville and was a resident of that city five years. He leaves a wife and one child. Oakdale Cem.

From Ohio State Journal, Feb. 4, 1896 p5c5 Robert Burns Curry died at Newton, Kansas Jan. 23, 1896. He was the youngest son of Colonel James Curry and was born in Union county June 3, 1811 and was in his 85th year. His father, Col. James Curry was a prominent citizen of the state and was a member of the Legislature from Highland county when the capital was at Chillicothe. In 1811 he settled on a tract of 1000 acres in Union county being a part of the 4000 acres ceded to him by the state of Vermont for his services as an officer of the Fourth Virginia infantry during the War of the Revolution. Colonel Curry was also a member of the legislature several terms after the War of 1812, and in 1820 introduced the bill for the erection of Union county and was afterward an associate Judge of the county.

Robert Burns Curry was named for Captain Robert Burns, his grandfather on his mother's side. Captain Burns was also a revolutionary soldier, a Scotchman, and was a relative of the Bard of Scotland.

His older brother Otway Curry, who died back in the fifties was well Known as a lawyer, editor, and poet and in the thirties was associated with William D. Gallagher in this city as editor of The Hesperian, a literary magazine of high merit and was also a member of the legislature a number of times. Robert Burns was the last of the old line of the Curry family. p5 Eightieth Birthday of James Dixton Robinson.

Helen, the little two year old daughter of O. K. Eastman and wife died of brain trouble Thursday. Funeral services at the church by Rev. Werner of Claibourne. Price Cem p4c2 John Maddox, Sixth street died Thursday from pneumonia. He was a little over 50. Funeral services were at the M E church, Rev. E. E. McCammon officiating. He was born at Xenia and moved to Marysville about 18 years ago.

Thomas Martin, the son of Michael & Margaret H. Martin, was born East Meath, Ireland, Oct. 31, 1841. His parents were both natives of the same place. His mother died in Ireland when Thomas was 4 years old and the father with the family embarked in the United States in 1850. After a residence of three years in New York City they located on a farm in Paris Township where the father passed the remainder of his life. The deceased joined Co F 13th OVI in 1861 for the three year's service. List of battles he engaged in.

The deceased filled the office of coroner for four years, that of Deputy sheriff ten years and was First Assistant Sargeant of Arms of the General Assembly of Ohio. In 1888, he was elected sheriff of Union county and re-elected in 1890. He held the office of township trustee at the time of his death. Deceased was married to Miss Lucy E. Smith, a native of Union county, November 2d, 1870. Seven children were born to this union, six of whom together with the wife and brother Lawrence, his sister, Mrs. George Lovell remain. He passed away February 21, 1896 aged 54 years 3 months and 20 days. p4c3 Resolution of Respect to John Maddox.

Obit. Benjamin Parrish was born in Harrison county, Ohio, October 29, 1830, died at his home in Washington township February 10, 1896, aged 65 years 3 months and 11 days. The deceased was united in marriage to Elizabeth White February 23, 1854. To this union have been born five children, three sons and two daughters, one son and one daughter are deceased. The deceased and family came to Union county in November 1866. The deceased leaves a wife, 2 sons, one son-in-law, one daughter, one daughter-in-law, three grand daughters and two grandsons. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Keisier of York assisted by Rev. Barron of West Mansfield. Vault at York Cem.

Susan Helen Eastman, daughter of Oliver K. and Sarah V. Eastman was born in Pharisburg July 28, 1893 and died February 13, 1896 aged 2 years, 6 months and 15 days. She leaves a father, mother and two sisters. One brother and one sister have preceded her to the spirit land. Funeral was at Pharisburg M. P. church conducted by Rev Werner. Price Cem.

Permilla L. Morse Parthemor was born in Rhode Island July 25, 1803 and departed this life May 5, 1896 aged 81 years, 9 months and 10 days She with her parents emigrated to Union county when a small girl. When 18 years of age she was married to Frederick Parthemor, a native of Virginia who departed lived November 1, 1870. To this union eleven children were born, eight of whom are still living. p3c3 Mrs. W. L. James was called to W. Mansfield by the death of her father, William Fisher, aged 83 years. Mr. Fisher was one of the pioneers of Logan county and had lived on the farm where he died since 1831. p5c5 Willis V. Shuler died Wednesday while at work for Rausch Manufacturing Company, working in the cabinet shop. He was the only son of David and Clarissa Shuler. He was born near New Dover, August, 17, 1860. In 1881 he married Miss Anna Boring and to them were born five children, four of whom with their mother survive him. He was 35 years 6 months and 2 days old.

The funeral of Joseph Green was held at the Christian church Thursday and was preached by the pastor, Rev. Hill. The K. of P of which he was a member was in attendance.

p5c2 The funeral of Adam Filler, New Dover took place Tuesday he was in his 84th year and was one of the pioneers, having lived in the county sixty-two years p5c4 Nellie Marie, infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Chris Mathers died March 7, 1896 aged 2 months and 2 weeks. Funeral services by Rev. McCammon.

p5c2 Two weeks ago Mrs. D. E. League and son aged about five years came to visit her parents, Benjamin Dougherty and wife. Last Thursday the child took ill with membranous croup and died.

Unknown man who died at the Infirmary was identified as Wm. McGibbony. The brother John transferred the body to a casket and accompanied it to Carick, Allegheny Co, Pa.

Raymonds H. A. Phillips died Saturday. The funeral services were held at the Disciple church. Elder Hill, pastor of the Christian church assisted by the Masonic and K.P. orders.

p4c2 Mrs. Thomas Wharton South Main Street died Friday from pulmonary trouble aged 75 years 5 months 27 days. Mary Jane Clinton Wharton was born in Cumberland Md. On the 4th of December 1844, she was united in marriage to Thomas Wharton who died in this place January 5, 1888. To this union were born six children, five sons and one daughter, only two of which- Charles and William C. are living, being the oldest and youngest of the sons. One son died while serving in the Army. From her obit "her parents first moved to Urbana where they lived a year or so, and then bought a farm near Cabletown. The daughter lived with them about two years and then returned to Urbana to learn dressmaking. She united with the ME church in 1842. The family moved to Marysville 1867. Oakdale Cemetery, Urbana. She was buried beside her husband and deceased children.

p5cé6 Mrs. William Moody was a native of Perry county. Her maiden name was Lucinda Jones and she came from one of the pioneer families of Perry County.

April 1, 1896 p4c3 Mrs. Mary Liggett, wife of the late John Liggett died at her home in Jerome township Saturday, aged 76 years 4 months and 4 days. For many years of her life she was an invalid. In her later years she gained some strength. Mrs. Liggett was a native of Greene County, Ohio. November 12, 1841 she was united in marriage to John Liggett. Shortly after, they moved to Jerome township on lands they purchased in 1839. In 1841 they cleared a site and erected a log house on the farm where Mrs. Liggett has ever since resided. Mr. Liggett died some years ago. Mrs. Liggett was the mother of seven children, only four are living. Mrs. Dr. |. G. Stall of Indiana, and William M. formerly treasurer of the county and now a resident of St. Paul, Minn. are her two children. Two others, John W. and Edward G. are yet living. The burial was at the U.P. cemetery, New California, she being a member.

Freeman was born in Muskingum County July 22, 1828 and died in Broadway April 5, 1896 being 67 years. Mr. Freeman moved to Union county in the fall of 1853. He was twice married, first to Arminda McCracken, December 25, 1853; the second marriage was October 22, 1863 to Susan McCracken, sister of the first wife There were three children by the first wife, and four by the second; two of the former and three of the latter are now living and were all present and the burial of their father. p4c3 Mrs. Joana Gault, New Dover, died at Oak Forest April 4 of pneumonia. She was born in Tipperary County, Ireland. March 17, 1822, being 74years and 17 days of age. She with her father, husband and daughter immigrated to this country in 1857 and became a resident of this county in 1856. She was the mother of eleven children, six of whom have preceded her to the better world. Two daughters are residents of Madison county, one son of Marion, and a son and daughter residents of Union county. Her funeral took place April 6 at Our Lady of Lourdes church conducted by Rev. J. G. Venneman.

May 6, 1896 No 41, Vol 56. p1c4 About two weeks ago Mrs. James Wood stepped on a rusty nail. The wound became infected and terminated May 6, 1896 in lock jaw. She died Sabbath morning. The funeral took place at ME church conducted by Rev. George H. Creamer.

p4c2 Joseph Adams of the county infirmary died Monday. He leaves a wife. Oakdale Cem. The first to be buried in the new infirmary plot. He was over 100.

May 13, 1896 p 8c4 William Smith died May 11 at age of 78 years, 2 months and 18 days. Mr. Smith as born at Frederick, Virginia February 23, 1818 and with his family moved to Xenia in 1826. Mr. Smith came to Clark County and in 1850 moved to Otter Run in Union county where he resided until 1872 when he became a citizen of Marysville. He leaves a wife, six children and a number of grand children. In 1862, he enlisted in Co K., 96th OVI and served until he was discharged for disability in 1863. He was a member of Ransom Reed post and Masonic fraternity. Funeral with Rev. W. J. Haines, Oakdale Cem. While residing at Otter Run, for a period of twenty-two years he followed the trade of carpenter and made the erection of large barns a specialty.

p4 Obituary Lucinda Rose was born in Union County April 9, 1830, died aged 66 years 1 month, 18 days. Cancer on the liver. May18, 1848, she was married to James Y. Sevirn who preceded her fifteen months ago to the "Glory World".

p5c2 News was received last week of the death of Mrs. Catherine P. Coates, widow of the late John B. Coates who served as Union county's probate judge for nearly twenty years. Her death occurred at the home of her son Charles N. Coates at Lodge Pole, Nebraska. It is expected to move the body to Marysville for interment.

June 10, 1896 No 46, Vol 56 Whole page John H. Shearer. Born December 10, 1816 in Perry County, died June 5, 1896. His father, David Shearer was born in Franklin County, Penn. in 1781. He emigrated to Ohio in 1805 and settled in Perry County. He was one of a family of twelve children, ten sons and two daughters. His mother, Martha Miller, was a native of Lancaster county, Penn., but moved to Dauphin county and then in 1806 to Fairfield county, O. The father died in 1820 at the age of thirty-nine years, having contracted disease while in the army in 1813 from which he never recovered.

The original family consisted of three daughters and three sons, two daughters and one son died in infancy. The subject of this notice is fourth child, second son. The mother Mrs. Martha Kishler (second marriage) died in Marysville March 9, 1875. In 1836 he became an apprentice at Western Post in Somerset. In August 1839, he purchased a half interest in the Western post, sole proprietor in 1844. He was forced out of business becoming involved as surety for his friends. An opening in Marysville Tribune was advertised in Ohio State Journal. He went to Marysville and purchased share in Marysville Tribune.

He has been twice married: first to Matilda Ream September 8, 1842. She died in Marysville March 25, 1865. Two children are living by this union- Mrs. Dr. Ziegler of Columbus, W. O. Shearer of the Tribune office. The second marriage was with Mrs. J. A. Johnson, nee Carson with whom he lived thirteen years. She died October 14, 1881. By this union there is one son, John H. Shearer,Jr. This marriage was consummated October 22, 1868.

Died June 5, 1896 (73 years, 4 months and 13 days). She was united in marriage to Henry Grimes April, 1846 to which union were born five children, three boys and two girls. She moved with her husband and family from West Virginia to their farm in Allen Township January 1869. She leaves three sons. p4c3 George Coder died June 4, 1896, seventy-eight years, three months and 6 days. His birthplace and childhood career were near Bunbridge, Ross County, where he, with his parents resided until 1834. In his sixteenth year they settled in the woods near Summersville, York Township. October 28, 140, he married Miss Elizabeth Hamilton. Five children came to bless this union, all living. David McCormick, adopted at two months still resides at the old home. Two brothers, three sisters survive. Funeral at Union church, sermon by Rev. p2c5 Clement Reamer Holycross was born March 13, 1845, died in North Lewisburg Mary 30, 1896. He married Miss Rosetta Epps September 12. 1866. There was born to them one son, who died in young manhood.

p5c3 Mrs. John Leonhard Nicol died Sunday aged 71 years, 9 months and 11 days. Mrs. Nicol was born in the Fatherland and was one of the few remaining original settlers of the German community. Three sons, one daughter, twenty seven grandchildren mourn her death.

The deceased has been engaged in the importation of French hoses for many years and was widely known among horsemen.

pic3 Byhalia. Rev. Robert Stimmel of Watkins is visiting relatives and working in the interest of the anti-saloon League and is having very good success.

pic4 Ostrander. The celebration of the fourth was one of the largest and most enthusiastic held here. Uncle Cris Graham of Millcreek township was here with the fife and drum to enliven the occasion. he remarked in our hearing that"Ostrander never did anything by halves". The parade in the evening, accompanied by fireworks and martial music was just splendid.

There is quite an excitement caused by the wilful mutilation of the nice shade trees in the village by the new telephone company and there is likely to be some lawsuits grow out of it as the company have not secured a franchise from the council.

[4c3 William Hunter Robinson was riding on a load of hay when the wagon struck a rut and he was thrown off, striking his head and causing instant death. Mr. Robinson was born January 14, 1822. In 1850 he was married to Elizabeth McCampbell, sister of the late Samuel McCampbell of Marysville. The wife and six children survive him. He was 75.

Mrs. Carrie Mitchell Barbour, died in Columbus as a result of an operation to remove an ovarian tumor. Mrs. Barbour was born in 1864 in Union township where her father John Mitchell then resided. She married Oscar Barbour October 1890. Since then she has resided in Cincinnati, Memphis, Tennessee and Columbus, Ohio. Her age was 32 years. Her mother, Mrs. John Mitchell, of Welda, Kansas was at the funeral.

Dr. Jerome Oatley died July 6, 1896. A wife, three sons and a daughter are left. His funeral was conducted under auspices of John Fowler, GAR Post.

July 22, 1896 c2 Obit. Nancy E. Carpenter was born in Randolph county, Virginia October 21, 1835 and died July 12, 1896, aged 60 years, 8 months and 21 daus. She came to Union County while a child. She married L. B. White December 18, 1856 and to this union were born nine children: three sons and six daughters, all of whom but one daughter are still living, Laura, the daughter having died twelve years ago. Oakdale Cem. Also July 15, 1896 p4c3 p1c3 Byhalia. The funeral of Mrs. Haugh took place at the Friends church Thursday. She leaves a husband and three children. She was forty-three years old. Rev. Hesney officiated.

Plain City. The recent heavy rains have caused D. C. Kilbury's carp lake to overflow and now the boys are catching ten to fifteen pound carp in all the little runs and ditches. It is estimated about five hundred pounds have been taken that way.

p5c2 The infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. G. English died Friday of congestion of the bowels. The child while only five days old appeared quite healthy and the death was unexpected.

Mrs. Mary Brooks, the destitute old lady who died Tuesday ar the infirmary was buried at Trihedron cemetery,instead of Richwood. The Trihedron is a three cornered piece of ground that was cut off Oakdale Cem by the Ohio Central railway. It was recently purchased by the infirmary directors for a public burying ground and Mrs. Brooks' burial is the second interment there.

August 5, 1896 No 2, Vol 48 p1c3 Byhalia. Quite a number from this place attended the funeral of Nellie Bergman at Grace Chapel last Thursday. Her age was 21 years. Interment at York.

c5 The colored community in Marysville suffered the loss of one of their most respected members in the death on Sunday of Mrs. Martha Evans, relict of John Evans. Funeral at the home of her son Mack. Rev. J. W. Lewis of the local AME church officiated. Mrs. Evans was in her 59th year. It was in 1860 that she came with her husband from North Carolina and settled in the Cotton Slash neighborhood. Here she raised five sons and tow daughters who are now living.

p4 Henry Amrine was born on the old Amrine homestead November 21, 1821. He is the son of Abraham and Mary Amrine who were among the earliest pioneers in Paris Township. He was married April 26, 1842 to Miss Martha Irvin, daughter of William and Amelia Evans Irvin.

The Amrines were blessed with three children, two of whom are living, viz: Alfred born February 7, 1843 and Mary H. the youngest child born January 22, 1849 and was married November 1 1868 to H. H. Whelpley . For many years they have been identified with the Old Amrine M. E. church and its missions. They were among the largest contributors to the Ohio Wesleyan university, having bestowed about $30,000 to that institution. It is and endowment fund for the chair of the President which is known as the Amrine chair.

p8c5 Sabbath morning the last sad rites were performed on the remains of Emanuel Fox who met his death in the terrible accident at Covington. (A scaffold fell from a school building.) The men at work on the building were Mr. Fox, Hamar Maddex. William Diehl and John Dellinger, all brick mason, and George Christian, hod carrier, all of whom lived in Marysville. Tthe body of Hamar Maddex was brought to this city Thursday by his brother William Maddex of Kenton and funeral services were held form the home of Mrs. John Maddex, a sister-in-law. Rev. E. E. McCammon officiated. Oakdale Cem. He was born June 25, 1872 in Darby Township. When 17 years of age he went to Kenton to learn the trade of brick layer. When the Oakland hotel was built,he moved to Marysville and has remained in the employ of Emanuel Fox. His father is Philip Maddex.

p2c2 Last week, Mr. and Mrs. Wesley A. Garrard were called to Richwood to attend the funeral of Mrs. Martha Cheney, mother of Mrs. Garrard. Mrs. Cheney's maiden name was Carr. She was born May 16, 1813 in Pennsylvania and afterwards resided in Champaign county, where in March 1829 she was married to Thomas Cheney To them were born fourteen children. She was 84.

p5c3 The home of Henry Opphile was overshadowed with sorrow last week by the death of his seven year old son Albert Opphile who died Thursday. A short service was held by Rev. F. W. Abicht of the Lutheran church and interment at Oakdale Cem.

Nellie, the three year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Shadrack died Thursday. Her death was the result of a scald she sustained during July. At that time her little brother was carrying a cup of coffee, ran into his sister, spilling the contents on her neck and breast. The child had been bedfast since.

p4c4 Edward A. Dolan died Friday Oakdale Cem_ He was born on March 6, 1876 and was 21. He graduated from high school in 1892 with honors. He had intended to study the profession of law. p5c2 Little Fredrick, the infant son of Mr. and Mrs. N. Freemond died this morning, age 11 months. Funeral conducted by Rev. Lewis of A.M.E. church and burial at Oakdale Cem.

p5c6 Eliza Calloway Snodgrass, widow of Thomas Snodgrass died at the residence of her daughter Mrs. Captain Algower aged 87 years, 3 months, 18 days. She was born near Springfield May 13, 1809, came to Union county 1828. She was the mother of ten children, four of whom are living, viz: Mrs. Rebecca Campbell of Washburn, Mo. Mrs. Albert Converse of near Plain City, Mrs. G. L. Sellers, and Mrs. Algower of this city; There are thirty grandchildren and an equal number of great grandchildren. She was united in marriage to Thomas Snodgrass August 21, 1828 at the age of 18 years. Rev. E. E. McCammon and Rev. L. C. Webster officiated at the funeral services. A beautiful solo was rendered by Miss Ethel Cross, the oldest living grandchild. Oakdale Cem. Pallbearer were grandchildren: John Sellers, John Cross, Herman Vosbury, Cliff and Lee Converse and C. E.

September 16, 1896 Vol 48 No 8 p5c2 Miss Phoebe Powers, eldest daughter of W. M. Powers, formerly of this place, who had been residing at Hamilton, Illinois, died at Quincey, Illinois August 31 where she had gone for medical treatment. She was 27.

p5c3 Jacob Winkler, one of the well-known German citizens died Monday of cancer of the stomach. Rev. Paul Bergener of Columbus will officiate. Mr. Winkler left a wife and five young children. H e was a Carpenter by trade and until two months ago was employed by Rausch Mfg.

p5c5 James Scott died at the residence of his son O. M. Scott September 23, 1896. He was the last of a family of ten children and was the father of ten children, all of whom survive him. He was born in Washington county, Pa. June 28, 1804, being in his 93rd year. His father immigrated to Licking County, Ohio in 1811, settling in Franklin township on what is still known as the Scott farm. February

21, 1831, he was married to Mary Josselyn at Zanesville, O. The same year, he united with the Presbyterian church at Fairmont, Licking County, and was a member of the Delaware Presbyterian church at the time of his death.

He was married the second time to Mrs. Margaret Dowing of Radnor, O. in 1887 with whom he lived until her death two years later, since which time he has lived with O.M. Scott. He was buried beside his first wife at Delaware,Ohio Sept. 25, 1896.

p1c4 Mary C. Gardner, wife of James Gardner, Plum St, died after five weeks illness of typhoid fever. Funeral conducted in Amrine church by Rev. E. E. McCammon, interment at Oakdale Cem. Among the mourners were the deceased's four brothers, Charles Doty, of Toledo, George, Edward and Rev. Frank Doty, all of Columbus. Mrs. Garner was born January 13, 1845 and was married June 30, 1867 at Pataskala. She was the mother of eight children, all living.

p5c2 The thirteen months' old boy of Mr. and Mrs. Mike Nicol died Thursday of diphtheria. Interment was made Saturday, followed by funeral services in the settlement church by Rev. Werfleman.

c3 The family of John V. Eirich, sustained the loss of their daughter Anna Philippena, who died of membranous croup aged 6 years, 11 months 7 days. The body was interred Friday followed with service in the Lutheran church in Marysville by Rev. Snider.

c3 The home of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Winget is overrun with sadness on account of the death of their four year old daughter and eldest child. Private funeral. There was some doubt of the true nature of the disease.

p5c5 Miss Laura Arnold was found dead on the floor. Had she lived until Monday she would have been 64. She was born in Morgan county ad there are four sisters who survive her; Lucy Jane Arnold, Alabama, Anna Mahan, Colorado; Eliza Arnold, Delaware, Adelia Scott, Pa. She was a seamstress ad made a specialty of cutting and fitting children's clothes.

p 8, c 1,2 Chuckery. Miss Mattie Douglas of Nebraska who has been visiting with J. C. McCloud family for some time died Thursday. Funeral at Unionville, Rev. Creamer officiating.

Mr. and Mrs. B. F. Carmean were at Washington C. J. last week to attend the funeral of their brotherin-law, F. L. Neterhouse who was auditor-elect of Fayette county. He would have entered the office next week.

p8c1 Allen Center. The funeral of Theressa Smith, a former resident, took place at Buckrun chapel October 8, conducted by Rev. Webster of Marysville.

Theressa A. Smith was born July 8, 1835 and died October 6, 1896 age 61 years, 2 months, 28 days. She was married to Thomas C. Smith July 12, 1866 and to this union two children were born. Typhoid fever. She leaves a husband, one son, one daughter, one grandchild, a brother.

p3c2 Pearl Mather died Saturday at Richwood. The deceased was in the prime of young manhood and his death leaves a young wife and one child. Typhoid fever.

c3 John Samuel Fleck, son of John and Mary Fleck was born in Cumberland County, Penn. January 4, 1827 and died in Marysville October 15, 1896, being 69 years, 6 months, 14 days old. He, with his father's family first moved from Pennsylvania to Tuscarawas County, Ohio in 1833 and afterwards to Carroll County. In 1842, they came to Jerome Township and cleared up a farm. John S. Fleck came to Marysville in 1844 and commenced learning his trade, that of a carpenter. He was married to Mrs. Ann Rose November 15, 1849. To this union three children were born who are still living; Mollie E., Edwin and Charles Fleck. Three years after coming to Marysville Mr. Fleck began contracting for buildings and in 1875 he entered into partnership with Mr. A. S. Chapman under the firm name of Fleck and Chapman and for many years this firm was the leading building and lumber company in Union county. A disastrous fire in 1886 destroyed theri large establishment and was such a financial blow to Mr. Fleck that he never recovered from it. p8c4 Samuel Marsh was born in Randolph county, Virginia, Mary 30, 1809 and died at Marysville Oct. 15,1896 at the age of 87 years and 5 months. They came to Ohio in a wagon with three horses and the following spring purchased a small farm of 80 acres on buck run in Allen Township where he continued to reside until about eleven years ago when he moved to Marysville. To the first marriage was born nine children, five of whom, three sons and two daughters are still living. one son, the eldest,resides in California, one in Urbana and one in this county, while the oldest daughter, Mrs. Owen Wilber resides in Dayton, and the other daughter in Gunison, Colorado. All of his five sons enlisted in the Civil War. The two older sons enlisted in the company raised by Colonel Hawkins. One, having moved to Kansas, enlisted from that state and was captured by the enemy and is supposed to have died in prison, as nothing was ever heard of him after his capture. One of the sons was in a southern hospital when the father sought out his son and watched over him until he was able to be brought home and nursed him back to health and to the service of his county.

p5c5 Thursday Mrs. Anna Margaretha Zwerner passed away. Mrs. Zwerner was born in the village of Erlback, kingdom of Bavaria, in Germany August 3, '96, she being the oldest of a family of five children, only one of which, Michael Gundermann now survives. Accompanied by parents she came to this country in 1836. in 1848, she was married to Mr. John George Zwerner. She was the mother of ten children and sixteen grand children. She attained the age of 72 years, 2 months and 19 days. She was a devoted member of the Lutheran Church. Funeral services were conducted in both languages by Rev. F. W. Abicht. Oakdale Cem.

p8c1 Richwood. Mrs. Ann Shipley, 73, wife of M. M. Shipley died Saturday morning of paralysis. Homer Jolliff. age 12. son of J. L. Jolliff died Sunday morning of typhoid fever.

Sanford Spain died Monday, Allen township, aged 77 years, 10 months, 27 days. Mr. Spain moved to Ohio from Virginia with his father in 1832 and settled on the Allen Township farm. A Year later, his father died leaving the children to clean up the green wood and lay the foundation for a future home. Sanford afterwards became the possessor of the farm and lived on it until his death. He was twice married, first to Matilda Wallace and then to Sarah Shirk, both of whom preceded him to the land beyond. He leaves two children.

p5c2 Hon. W. W. Merrick of Pomeroy Ohio died at the Sanitorium of this city Friday.he was prominent as an attorney and politician and held mary positions of honor and trust. He leaves a wife and two grown daughters.

p4c3 Vernon J. Goff, son of William H. & Sylvira J. Goff was born near Broadway April 15. 1890 and died November 2, 1896 being 6 years, 6 months and 17 days old. Vernon was the youngest of eight children, 5 sons and 3 daughters. Funeral services at the home by Rev. H. G. Hill. Broadway cemetery p5c2 Death visited the home Monday of Mrs. and Mrs. Louis Seagrover and removed their eldest child, little Marie, aged three years. Diphtheria was the cause of death. p5c5 News came of the death Tuesday of Ashley Kightlinger at his home in Lockland,O. He was for many years a resident of Marysville, but about a year ago he went to Lockland to reside with his son. Four distinct services were held at the house and one at the cemetery.

Mrs. Mary Reed "Aunt Polly Reed" died Friday. Funeral services were at the Amrine church conducted by Rev. A. H. Ballinger, assisted by members of Ransom Reed Post GAR which post was named in honor the deceased's eldest son and the first soldier to fall in the line of battle from Union County. p4c3 Mary Reed was born in Belmont County and died in Paris Township November 13, 1896. She moved with her parents, John Amrine and wife of Union County in 1818. She was married to William Reed in 1836. She was the mother of two daughters and three sons and she outlived all except on son. her three sons enlisted in the war for the Union. Ransom Reed was killed at Cornifax Ferry. Theodore Reed enlisted in Co E 86th OVI and died at home from wounds; John Reed enlisted in Co E 86th OVI and after an honorable service returned home and is now in this county. The two daughters are dead. One of them married Isaac Staley and the other, Lavina, married Samuel Marshal. Funeral at Amrine church by Comrade J. W. Tilton. Copy of funeral address. p5c4 A report of the death Sunday of Mrs. Ella Vance in Condit causes considerable sadness. Mrs. Vance was formerly Miss Ella Williams. She was married less than a year ago.

pic4 Unionville. Word has been received here that Mrs. L. A. Dockum formerly a resident of this place died at her home in Jetmore, Hodgeman County, Kansas. The remains were interred at Witchita.

c6 from Jetmore, Ks. Mrs. Hattie Dockum died November 16. aged 49 years.her death was caused by spinal meningitis. She leaves a husband, son and daughter.

p4 W. S. Smith died Monday. The cause was the result of a misfortune August 30, 1893 when he accidentally swallowed a mouth plate containing a false tooth. A post mortem found the plate lodged in the esophagus about four inches above the stomach and had cut and lacerated it until a blood vessel was severed and the man bled to death. He was 51 years, 8 months and 14 days and leaves a widow, and five daughters, the youngest being three weeks old. The eldest daughter, Mrs. C. D. Doney Black Rock Conn, arrived last night. He was born February 9, 1845 in Richwood. He served in the Civil War. on his return he entered the harness business. He has also been connected with the Continental Hotel in which he acquired considerable popularity as a landlord.

p5c3 Mr. and Mrs. Willis Perfect experienced one of the saddest trials of life in the death of their second daughter, little Abbie Marriott. The sickness was both scarlet fever and diphtheria. Her age would have been three years on the next day after her death.

p5c4 Mr. R. E. Brewster died Monday. He would have been 70 at his next birthday Arrangements for the burial were made by Mrs. Brewster's nephew, Lieutenant Treadwell Moore of the US Army, who had been with them during the last week. The body was taken to Wooster where a daughter of the deceased is buried and where Mrs. Brewster will make her home with friends.

p1 Pottersburg Euram Carpenter of Middleburg, was buried last week. he had been a resident of the town for 61 years except a few years spent in Lewisburg. He was well known as a carriage and wagon maker.

pic3 Broadway. The family of William Phipps living on Bokes Creek buried a six year old daughter. Several of their other small children are in bed, and it is claimed to be diphtheria.

pic4 Pharisburg. Miss Rose Friend who has been an invalid for 15 years died Sunday aged 27 years 4 months 1 day. The funeral was held at the church conducted by Revs. Graham and Louke. Hopewell Cemetery.

December 9, 1896 Paul Gannon departed this life at the residence of T. W. Kezerta November 24. The funeral service from the Kezerta home, Rev. Smucker, of Marysville officiating. Interment at Bluescreek cemetery. He leaves a father, mother, four brothers, one sister. He had been a valued employee of Mr. Kezerta for the last three years.

Joe Brannon was born near Marysville September 13, 1826. He came to Washington in 1854 and took up a donation claim on White river with his brother, William H. Brannon, who with his family was killed by the Indians in the White River Massacre in 1855. At that time, Mr. Brannon was absent, interceding with the governor to secure troops to come to the relief of the settlers in the valley. He joined company B., First regiment under Capt. Houp, with whom he served several months and in the spring of 1856 joined a company under Capt. Henness to go east of the mounts. In 1858, he returned to White river and purchased what is now known as the Meeker farm where he lived eight years, then moved to the old donation claim further up the river.
