p5c5 David Joiner Darby Township died Saturday aged 58 years. Mr. Joiner was born in Scotland. He was the father of eight children all but one of whom survive him. His wife died about five years ago. He was a soldier in the war of rebellion, having served three years in the army and navy. Internment at Unionville Cem. Rev. Nichol of Milford ME church officiated. Morey & Co were funeral directors.

The wife of William H. Bonnett died Saturday at the age of seventy-five years. She was the mother of three children who, with her husband survive her. Mt. Hermon Cem. Rev. Bower of the ME church

A. B. Johnson of Mt. Gilead was called to Ostrander by the death of his brother, L. G. Johnson which occurred Monday from Typhoid. He leaves a wife and one child. The remains were taken to Findlay for internment. In memoriam by Ostrander K of P. Dec. 6, 1893, p 6 p6 Mrs. Sabina Resencrantz died Tuesday at Continental Ohio She was known as Miss Sabina Melching. She resided many years in the family of Judge Woods and when the family moved to Minneapolis after the death of Judge Woods, she went with them. She died at the home of her sister, Mrs. James Alexander at Continental.

p7 Dr. Charles H. Ferris, son of H. C. & M. A. Ferris was born June 3, 1862. In '89, he began the study of medicine. in the fall of 1891, he located in Dayton, Ohio and was attended with success in his chosen occupation. May 19, he was united in marriage to Miss Josie Thompson. He died November 7, 1893 aged 31 years, 5 months and 11 days. He leaves his young wife, a mother, one brother and a sister. Funeral services were held at the old home, his brother Rev. W. N. Ferris, of Sunbury, officiating.

December 6, 1893 No 19 p1c5 Death of English John Robinson. He was born in England March 21, 1802, came to America in 1833. He married in England. Of that union he had six sons: Edwin, who now resides in Cold City, Illinois; Rubens, a resident of Delaware County, Alfred who died a few years ago at Parson, Kansas, Arthur, who now keeps store in Ostrander, Edward, who resides in Marion and Guido who resides in the home place. A daughter married a gentleman named Ferris. She died some years ago.

She was a member of the ME church at Mt. Herman, then Ryan chapel.. c3 She was born in Muskingum county August 5, 1819. Her maiden name was Leah Welsh. She came to this county at about age 20 and was married to William Bonnett March 5, 1845. She died November 25, 1893. She leaves a husband and three children, two sons and a daughter. p5c2 Dr. W. E. Winget, son of W. M. Winget of this place died at his home Wednesday of consumption. also 12-9- He was 34. Milford Cem. Rev. December 13, 1893 A telegram was received on Monday by Samuel Dollar announcing the death of his uncle, James Finley Woods which occurred December 10, 1893 at Greensburg, Pa. Col. Woods was a brother of the late Judge William W. Woods of Marysville and Samuel Woods of Milford and a son of Rev. Samuel and Margaret Powers Woods who emigrated at an early date from Westmoreland, Penn. Rev. Samuel Woods was the first pastor of the presbyterian church of milford Center. Col F. J. Woods was graduated from Hanover College, Indiana, afterwards studied in Greensburg, Pa and permanently settled there. A widow, one son, John Y Woods of Greenburg and three daughters survive him. He was born June 21, 1812, outlived all his family whose home was planted in the year 1807 p4c3 Eliza J. Phillips daughter of Thomas and Margaret Phillips was born in Marion county, O. Dec. 31, 1842 and died in Marysville December 10, 1893, aged 51 years, 11 months and 21 days. She was married to George W. Court March 1, 1861. After their marriage they resided for a while in Prospect, and from thence to Richwood. Then Mr. Court was elected Treasurer of Union County in 1877, the family moved to Marysville. Two children were born of this marriage, Edward and Mrs. J. C. Wilkins. Funeral services with Rev. Ferguson officiating. Oakdale

Retta M., wife of Theodore Weidman died Saturday. Mrs. Weidman was the daughter of J. L. & Ida M. Richey and was born October 26, 1866 and died December 9, 1893. two children Jessie Myrtle and Essie Marie aged seven and five years remain with the father. Funeral at Presbyterian Church with Rev. W. A. Ferguson.

Ray G. Morse,Sr. died Sunday, 85 years. He had moved to Ohio with his father in 1818. He learned the smithing trade and settled at Milford Center where he followed his trade for a number of years. At length he bought a farm on which he resided until his death.

p8 c5 Unionville Elwood Harper died at asylum for the insane. He had been an inmate about 5 years. Elwood was the oldest son of A. J. Harper. Unionville cem c6 Susie Roberts Webster was born in Morrow county February 22, 1857. She was united in marriage January 18, 1874 to O. C. Webster. Death was November 17, 1893, aged 36 years, 8 months, 26 days. She was the only child of O. B. & Mary

December 20, 1893 No 21 p1c4 Black Hawk. The daughter of Samuel and Alice Gamble died December 16, aged 1 year, 6 months 17 days. Funeral at Springdale conducted by Rev. Beck, Ostrander.

Fountain Park. Rev. J. W. Henley D.D. conducted the funeral services of James Poling at Buck Run ME church. He was 87 years, 6 months old. He was for many years a member of the Universalist church at Woodstock.

p4 Death of Charles H. Wood, son of Hylas and Kate Wood. He was born May 7, 1871, died December 16, 1893, aged 22 years, 7 months and 5 days. He graduated from HS in 1888 and two years ago entered Ohio Wesleyan. Funeral at ME church.

p5c4 Mrs. Elizabeth Vollrath died December 13, 1893. Mrs. Vollrath was married three times and was the mother of three children by the first marriage. These are Adam Blumenschein, his brother who lives south of south of town and sister who lives in Westerville. The funeral was at the Settlement church and burial at the cemetery nearby.

Mrs. Catharine Jones died Monday at the home of her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Maria Jones. She was in her 72nd year. Buried at Circleville. Mrs. Maria Jones and two children Howard and Miss Kate survive. Undertaker H. W. Morey accompanied the body.

p8 Mrs. G. W. Court was born in Marion County December 31, 1842. She was the daughter of Thomas and Margaret Phillips and was one of eight children- two sons and six daughters.

p7 Amelia Jane Glenn was born near Monteray, Clermont County, Ohio February 18, 1829 and was married to J. S. Lilly July 20, 1848. They moved to Hardin County in 1854 and remained there until April 9, 1883 when they moved to their present home. She was the mother of twelve children, ten of whom survive her. The deceased leaves a husband, ten children, eight grandchildren, three sisters and a brother. Her age was 64 years, 7 months and 21 days. Funeral services by Rev. I. J. Cahill of Kenton and Rev. Kinney of Essex. Grove Cem, Kenton.

James Poling was born May 27, 1806 and departed this life December 5, 1893, aged 87 years, 6 months and 8 days. He was united in marriage to Polly Carpenter in 1830. By this union eight chidren were born, five of whom survive him- Sarah Ann Ryan Delaware, Cyrus Poling, Indiana, Orsamus Poling, Reuben and Jerusha Clark of Union County.

January 3, 1894 Mrs. Amanda Speakman, wife of Joshua Speakman died Thursday at the home of her sister Mrs. E. T. Payne. She was born and raised in Ross County. She was 3 years, 4 months and 2 days and her death renders four young children without a mother. The funeral was conducted by Rev. W. G. March. Oakdale Cem

Little Nellie Glaze died Saturday at the home of her grandfather, Daniel Miller at the age of 9 years, 11 months and 2 days. Funeral services, Rev Bugbey officiating, Oakdale Cem.

p5c4 December 25, Mrs. Nellie Long received word that her daughter, Mrs. Nellie Butin was sick. She died, funeral Tuesday from the house in which she was married ten years before.

p8c3 Pharisburg. Eli Hilderbrand died Friday. He was 65 years and 1 month old. He leaves a wife and one daughter. Funeral services at the Bluescreek Christian church by Rev. Peters.

p5 Ruth Coe, seventeen months old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Almer Coe, of Chicago. The remains were brought here to the home of her grandmother, Mr. and Mrs. Alf Scott. Oakdale Cem p5c6 Died at the residence of J. D. Robinson Mrs. Rosannah Wood, aged 91 years. She was the widow of the late Luther Wood of Union Township. Her maiden name was Cochran and she was born in Erie County Pennsylvania April 23, 1802. She had six children, all of whom survive her except William C. Wood; those now living being K. L. Wood of Urbana; Mrs. Lucinda McWilliams; Mrs. Angeline Robinson, Marysville, James Wood, Milford, Mrs. M. J. Ryan, Plain City.

January 17, 1894 Vol 45, no 25 pic4 Amrine. H. A. Westlake and wife and Monroe Amrine and George Westlake and Miss Mary Westlake attended the funeral of their uncle and brother-in-law Thomas Bell, one of the prominent farmers of Logan County last Wednesday.

pic5 Pharisburg. Mrs. William Hoskins better known as Aunt Polly died Thursday. She was eightyfour. Her husband died about forty-four years ago. She leaves one son and two daughters. Funeral services by Rev. Strother. Hopewell Cem.

Obit Mary Maris Reed was born in Union County July 7, 1857 and died December 28, 1893 at Pickerstown, Logan county. She was married June 16, 1892 to Dr. Maurice L. Smith. Funeral services by Rev. Henry Johnson. Internment N. Lewisburg.

p5 Miss Alice B. Robinson, the daughter and only surviving member of the family of Hon. James W. Robinson. died at Summerville S. Carolina. She was born in Marysville Oct. 24, 1859 and died Jan. 13, 1894, aged 34 years, 2 months, 20 days. Funeral services by Rev. Ferguson.

Black Hawk. Allen Hickok an old citizen of this place died at his residence January 15 at the age of 87 years, 8 months, 5 days. Funeral services at the house conducted by Rev. Gates of Richwood. The remains were taken to Richwood for internment.

Jerome Frank, son A. Hughes died January 15, aged 11 years and 3 months. Funeral services at the ME church conducted by Rev. Crist, assisted by Rev. Holcomb.

George Hagenlocker died January 18 of typhoid pneumonia in his 34th year. Funeral services were held at the ME church conducted by Rev. Crist.

p8c1 J. M. Robinson died January 18, 1894. The subject of this sketch is a lineal descendant of Union counties earliest pilgrims. Thomas and Sarah Moderwell Robinson, who emigrated to Ohio from Pennsylvania in 1805 and settled in Darby township. He was one of a family of six children, all of whom have passed away, save one, J. Dixon Robinson. J. M. Robinson was twice married. His first marriage was November 28, 1844 to Mary Jane Roney, the second to Harriet Taylor June 8, 1865. Of these two unions eleven children were born, nine of whom are still living. In his early life he connected himself with the united Presbyterian church of New California in which he held the office of deacon a number of years. About sixteen years ago he joined the Presbyterian church of Plain City where he was a ruling elder. Funeral by Rev. Wok of Plain City Presbyterian Church. The IOOF had charge of services. Oakdale Cem p5c1 Frank Hughes, the fourteen year old son of Adam Hughes died at his home near Jerome. George Hagenlocker of the same neighborhood, aged thirty years, died.

present farm of his father Isaac Brodrick in Allen Township Mary 19, 1854. he was married April 16, 1878 to Miss Narcissa M. Benton. To them have been born three children, two daughters and one some, the latter being fourteen years of age and the oldest. Mr. Brodrick held office of county Prosecuting Attorney for six years being first elected in 1881. Member of Odd Fellows. 1 1/2 half columns.

p5c5 Andrew Schmit died Sunday aged 74 years, 9 months and 20 days. Mr. Schmidt was born May 1819 at Hoefen, Germany where he grew to manhood and served six years in the army. In 1847 he came to this country and settled at Manchester, Maryland where shortly after he was married to Catharine Kapp. In 1852 they moved to Union County. The death of his wife was two weeks ago.

February 7, 1894 Vol 45 No 28 p1c4 Broadway "Aunt Betsey" Martin, an old resident of this place, was buried here Tuesday. The body was shipped from Indiana.c5 Ostrander Mrs. Jennie Bovey died of Typhoid fever after an illness of seventy-four days.

p4c5 Rittenhouse, Margaret Latta was born July 10, 1817 near Frankfurt, Ross county and was married to H. G. Rittenhouse October 13, 1836. They moved to Winfield, Henry County, lowa in the fall of 1891 and she moved a few years to live with her son-in-law Samuel P. Conner where she lived until her death January 15, 1894. The following she was buried at Winfield, lowa beside her husband.

Feb 14, 1894. p5c3 Word has been received to the death of Denny Sweyer Saturday. He was employed at W. H. Armstrong's drug store until about two months ago. p8c1 Callie Davis wa born April 4, 1861; died February 6, 1894, aged 32 years, 10 months and 2 days. She was married to William S. Staley December 24, 1883 and to them were born three children, aged nine years, three years and ten days.

Mrs. Rebecca Durboraw, wife of W. H. Durboraw of Jerome township died January 24, in the 67th year of age. She was born near Carlisle, Cumberland Co, Pa, and moved with her parents and family to McCutchenville, Wyandot County, Ohio some fifty years ago. Here she was united in marriage to Mr. Durboraw and a few years later the family moved to Jerome. She leaves a husband, two sons and two daughters, three sisters and one brother. Her remains were taken to Upper Sandusky.

February 21, 1894 No 30 Vol 45 p1c4 Peoria. Quite a number from here attended the funeral of Josiah Courter which was held at his home near Raymond Friday. He was a member of Friend's Church pic5 Pharisburg. The little two year old daughter of D. W. Burkepile and wife died Tuesday. Remains were buried in Hildreth family burying ground.

p3c3 Elizabeth Stults Harris was born in Newark January 25, 1806 and died February 6, 1894 age 88 years, and 14 days. She was married to Jacob Harris who preceded her to the better land September 7, 1887. She was the mother of seven children. B.N. Boardman p5c4 John Godlove Lachenmaier died Tuesday. Mr. Lachenmaier was born in Erdmannhausen, Kingdom of Wuertembrug, Germany, September 14, 1837. He immigrated to the United states in 1853 and after a short residence in Columbus, moved to Marysville. He was twice married. From his marriage to Louisa Baessler there resulted five children, three of whom are living and reside in this city- Miss Katie, Mrs. Ed Ferris, and Mrs. William Cartmell.

February 28, 1894 Nor 31 p3 Carrie Emma, daughter of Thomas and Lucinda Goldsmith and wife of Perry A. Joliff was born November 20, 1868 and died February 16, 1894, 5 years, 2 months, 26 days. March 29, 1890 she was united in marriage to Perry A. Joliff. She leaves a husband, a little girl and a sister. Funeral services at York ME church. __B. N. Boardman years and 23 days. She removed to Marysville with her parents in 1876. In 1880 she was united in marriage to Mr. Daniel Hamilton, one child being the fruit of this union, Clara, aged 12 years. She was buried beside her father and mother at Oakdale Cem . She leaves one daughter, three sisters and one brother, Geo. B. Fortney of Columbus, Mrs. Frank Amrine, Mrs. Dr. Leckrone of Hebron and Mrs. Kester of Stanton, W.Va.

c5 John A. Hammond died in Darby Township February 21, 1894 aged 41 years, 10 months and 10 days. He leaves an aged mother, two brothers, a widow and eight chidren. Funeral services at Mt. Olive Christian church, Rev. Carris officiating. Member of Improved Order of Red Men. Also Unionville p8c2

Raymond p 8 c2 Mrs. Eliza Titus was born in Bethel, Windsor County, Vermont July 25, 1817. She came to Union County November 10, 1852, departed this life February 18, 1894 age 74. She leaves one son, one daughter, two sisters, three grandchildren and 1 great grandson.

p5c2 A Mrs. Webster died at county infirmary Sunday. Her remains were taken to Milford for burial. Mrs. Elsie Patch, well-known citizen of Plain City died Thursday. A husband and large family of children survive her.

p5 Mrs. John Vollrath, the aged mother of L. C. Conrad died Saturday. Funeral services at the Lutheran church, body laid in cemetery nearby.

pic8 York. Mrs. Sarah E. Coe, nee Penhorwood was buried her Sunday, aged near eighty-six years. She leaves a husband and two children. Rev. Strother of Richwood preached the funeral services. p3c3 Elizabeth Featherly Ream was born in Shenandoah county, Virginia February 21, 1820. She was married to Samuel Ream April 8, 1838 by this union seven children were born to them of which five survive her. She died February 27, 1894. p5c3 Miss Myrtle Henderson daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Henderson of Watkins died Tuesday. Mrs. Flora Boyer, nee Nowell died at the home of her parents in Bellefontaine Saturday. Buried Bellefontaine cemetery.

p4 Mrs. John Weidman died Monday. She was a native of New York state and her maiden name was Mary J. Ferguson. She was married to Mr. Weidman in Bellefontaine October 12, 1866. To this union four children were born, all living: Mrs. Frank Hudson of Mt. Sterling, Kentucky; Pearl R., Cincinnati, James and Walter. She was fifty. Burial services were conducted by Mary Chapter of Eastern Star.

Mrs. Jerusha Poling Clark died Friday at the home of William C. Malin. She was forty-eight years and four months old. She was married October 13, 1870 to Lester Clark of Allen township to which union two children were born, one of whom, Miss Hattie survives. Funeral at Buck Run ME church, Rev. Wilbur Hedges in charge. Brodrick cemetery. The following relatives were in attendance at the funeral: Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hudson; Pearl R.; Jno. Wollenham, Miss Minnie Wollenham and Mrs. Wes Smith, Urbana. Her only sister Mrs. John Woolenham is dangerously sick.

The sad news reached our neighborhood Sunday of the death of Martha Jolley of Kansas City. she was the half-sister of Mrs. John Barker and Solomon Turner.

Mrs. Flora Boyers, nee Flora Nowell died March 19, 1894. Born in Marysville September 22, 1874, she leaves a husband, parents and a brother.

p5c2 Rev. Benjamin Tressenrider died in Westerville the 4th, inst. He served years ago as pastor of the Milford Centre, Plain City and Lewis Centre churches p5c3 Mr. and Mrs. McDowell, our missionaries in Mosul, Turkey, Asia, have lost a second child by death. February 15, their daughter Ruth, aged nearly four years died of membranous croup and was buried in the missionary cemetery. p8 c2 Ostrander. Rev. A. C. Crist was called to Watkins last Sabbath to conduct the funeral services of Alvin Bell.

Pharisburg. The funeral of Mrs. Frank Lloyd was held at Hopewell Friday, Rev. Peters officiating. She died from the effects of measles. She leaves a father, mother, brother, sister, husband and three small children.

Mrs. Rose, wife of Harry Rose died at the home of her parents, A. Gandy and wife Saturday. She leaves a husband and little child, father, mother and two brothers. Funeral at Claibourne conducted by Rev. Abee. Maskill Cem

Broadway. the funeral of "Grandpa" Shelton took place Sunday. The pallbearers were his four sons and two grandson, Charlie and John Shelton. The deceased was eighty-one. He moved here from Urbana about eighteen months ago.

p1c2 Unionville. Mrs. Janett Williams died at her home near Goodland, Indiana Apr8l 9, 1894 She was 54. She was the eldest daughter of Joseph Hawn,Sr. She married A. W. Williams and moved to Indiana about 1867. Her husband preceded her to the Better World about a year ago. They leave a family of five children,

Miss Lida A. Green died April 25. She was the eldest daughter of Dr. W. G. and Mrs. Mary Helen Green and would have been twenty-one May 14. She graduated from Woodstock HS in 1889 and attended college at Delaware three years.

Richwood (too late for last week) John Chapman an old resident of Jackson township died Tuesday and was buried at Price Cemetery. He was seventy-seven.

Miss Sylvia Bell Cahill, Nineteen, died. Funeral at Presbyterian Church by Rev. M. A. Shedd. She was the daughter of Benton and Lovina Cahill.

Watkins. First Commencement. The first annual Commencement of the Millcreek township High School took place at the Christian Church at Watkins last Thursday evening. It was a grand success in every way. The house was crowded to the fullest capacity, with an appreciative audience and the program was so well arranged, and executed that, though the exercises lasted almost three hours, none seemed weary. The music furnished by the Apollo Club was greatly appreciated by our people. We were glad that the class was able to secure such excellent talent. They contributed largely toward making the evening a success. After the exercises were over, a Supper was served to the Apollo Club, also a supper was given in honor of the class by Mr. and Mrs. Parmenter, this being a surprise to the class. The Alumni was organized last Saturday evening when the customary banquet was given at Dr. Shields'

The class consisted of seven graduated, viz, Samuel J. Hanawalt, Bessie Pride Shields, Nannie Maud Wilkins, Alvi Graham, Mollie Lame, Frankie Wilkins, Richmond L. Shields.p5 c2 The Watkins graduating class were photographed yesterday at Smith's studio. The seven who compose the class are a bright body of students and are able representatives of the intelligence of the county.

p5c3 The Apollo Club report a most enjoyable trip to Watkins last Thursday night. Their singing at the commencement exercises was heartily appreciated by the large crowd in attendance which filled the church to overflowing. The boys were given a nice supper after the entertainment and did full justice to the repast. Their ride home in the rain was the only disagreeable feature of the evening. p6c2 Morris Case died at Piqua at the home of his son William. He had made his home with Mrs. D. F. McKitrick for six years. He was born in Hamilton County, New York in 1818 and in early life moved to Ohio, settling on a farm in Delaware County near the Girls' Industrial school. Since the death of his wife seven years ago he has lived in Marysville. He is survived by four of his children, Mrs. Morris Bean of this city. Mrs. Hill of Chicago and James and William Case of Piqua. Jerome Cemetery.

p5c5 Joseph Kreutler, a citizen of this place for seventeen years died at the county infirmary Sunday. Mr. Kreutler was born near Horb, Kingdom of Wurtemburg, Germany, November 27, 1827 and was 67. He emigrated to this country forty years ago and lived for several years in New York and Pennsylvania. Thirty years ago he moved to Crawford county, and twelve years later came to Marysville where he has made his home with the family of J. H. Schmidt, the barber.

May 23, 1894 John Delp was born April 23, 1831 at Brandan, Germany. At the age of six years he accompanied his parents John and Phillipina Delp to Darby Township. March 11, 1856, He married Miss Margaret Barbara Hegendoerfer. This union was blessed with eight children of whom four preceded him to the better land. He left the widow, one son, three daughters, seven grandchildren and two sisters. Funeral at Trinity Lutheran church conducted by Rev. Wiechers. He was 63 years and 25 days.

p3c2 T. P. Shields has been appointed a member of the State Live Stock Commission by Gov. Mckinley. This is the fourth time the Doctor has received the appointment upon this Board.

p4c4 Raymonds. Mrs. Mary Griffin died Saturday. Funeral services by Rev. Peters at Christian church of which she had been a member thirty-six years. Her husband survives her.

June 6, 1894 No 45 p1c3 Pharisburg. L. R. Jordon died Friday of cancer of the stomach. He was buried at Bethlehem under auspices of Pharisburg, K of P.

p5c1 Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Taylor moved from their farm in Dover township to the city Tuesday and are occupying their residence on Fifth street.

June 13, 1894 p3 Louis Albert Gottwald was born in Cuyuahoga County, December 21, 1872. died May 28. 1894 (21 years, 5 months, 7 days). His two brothers and father preceded him. He leaves a mother, two brothers, two sisters, a grandmother. Funeral at Raymond.

Lucy Sophia Guy, sixth child of James and Clarinda Guy was born in Dover township May 29, 1880, died May 8, 1894 (13 years, 11 months, 9 days.) Two sisters preceded her. He is the only one yet living of ten children born to Hugh and Jane Scott. When seven years of age he came with his parents to Ohio, settling on the Scott farm in Franklin township, Licking county. February 26, he was married to Mary Josselyn of Muskingum county. Of his ten children, seven are living, Rev. Hugh Milton R. of Newark, Orlando M., Judson J., Henry D. of Minnesota, Mira, Eddy and Laura Scott of Illinois.

p4c3 Mrs. Margaret Blue, wife of the late William Blue, Sen. died July 7, 1894 at the home of her son Josiah with whom she had made her home since being left a widow. She was known as Grandma Blue, lived to the age to 83 years, 6 months, 3 days. Mrs. Blue, whose maiden name was Hamilton was born in Ross county, O. January 4, 1801 and was united in marriage to William Blue Mary 28, 1818. Four sons were the result of this union, three of whom survive her, viz: Josiah, David and William Hamilton*, the eldest having passed on in May 1886. She, with her husband and children came to Union County in 1821 and settled on part of the farm now owned by Emanuel Jarvis. Mrs. Blue left three sons, twenty-two grandchildren, thirty seven great grandchildren. Funeral at Union p5c6 Mrs. Rebecca Mather Lansdown died Saturday. Her age was 54 years, 7 months and 29 days. A wife and two children survive. p6 History of Nicholas Hathaway family. Dr. Nicholas Hathaway came to Darby Plains in 1817. He was born near North Dighton, Mass. December 4, 1773. He graduated at Brown University, Providence R | June 1794. He married Anna Peirce December 3, 1875. Dr. Hathaway had seven children born in Massachusetts. His eldest son Elnathan remained there as he was attending college. The youngest was 4 years . His wife died September 28, 1822. April 15, 1824 he married Mrs. Elizabeth Morton, widow of David Morton. Mrs. Anna Gillespie was the only child of this marriage. He died August 24, 1848. Elnathan Hathaway, the oldest child of Dr. © Hathaway was born November 12, 1707, married Sileme Cushman April 1824. He lived in Treetown, Massachusetts and died there January 21, 1858. Joanna G., born September 16, 1806 married Samuel Reed April 8, 1824 and died May

10, 1884. Elias B. was born February 10, 1810 and married Lydia Ann Burnham. She was a sister of Eliphas Burnham. He died Feb. 16, 1844. Mrs. Celia McCreight is the youngest of this son.

Catharine was born August 20, 1811 and married Patrick Rice March 25, 1843, died March 10, 1864. Eben was born June 21, 1813, married 1835 to Mary Ann Hopkins. He died of cholera in San Francisco, November 2, 1850. Mrs. Anna Henderson, wife of Dr. D. W. Henderson was his oldest child.

Dr. Hathaway was one of the associate judges of Union County upon its organization in 1820-1821. He was also Associate Justice in 1839-1840 and 1840-1842. He was a representative in our State Legislature for the year 1822 and 1834-1835.

Brown of Washington DC at whose residence he died. He was born in Greenville, Darke County, March 13, 1847. The deceased leaves a wife, father, mother and two sisters.

Harrington p6c4 William Henry Edwards died July 17, 1894, aged 64 years. He was born in Hillsborough County, New Hampshire in 130. In 1841 he came to Ohio. He was married 1852 to Margaret J. Dawson. To them were born four children, one son and three daughters. He was a member of the Baptist church at Allen Center. Brodrick Cemetery.

Bouic. At his late home in Millcreek Township, July 26 in the 29th year of his age, John Dwight Bouic. Death was caused by rheumatic fever. He united with the Providence Presbyterian church in 1887 and was elected an elder four years ago, which office he held at the time of his death. He was a good Christian and although much afflicted in recent years, he bore his suffering with marked patience. He was highly esteemed by the community in which he lived and will be greatly missed. The family have the united sympathy of their neighbors and friends, it having been but a few years since the father died. Funeral services were held at the home, conducted by Rev. A. C. Crist and were largely attended. "Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord'.

Mother Millington Knew what war meant for she gave her husband and four sons for the defense of her country, two sons meeting death at the Battle of Shiloh. Smith, Esther Ann Keyes was born in Madison County September 21, 1829, died August 17, 1894 age 68 years 10 months 27 days. She was married to John W. Smith Mary 26, 1844 Of this union were born 10 children: four daughters and six sons, all are living except one daughter that died December 20, 1861. She leaves an aged husband and nine children. He moved with his family from West Virginia in January 1869 and has since lived on his farm in Allen Township. He leaves a widow and three sons to mourn their loss. His funeral was at Mt. She was a sister of Mrs. Judge Woods c3 Effie Weaver died at the infirmary Friday. She had been injured when her dress caught fire. Buried Newhouse Cem. Rev. Wilbur Hodges officiated.

E. C. Smith died Sept. 29, aged 68 years 1 month and 16 days. Funeral at Universalist church. Rev. J. W. Henley, D.D. officiating. Mr. Smith was an uncle of Elon Smith.

p5c5 Elbridge Green died at his home of East Fifth street September 20, aged 71 years 6 months 12 days. Funeral services were under direction of the IOOF lodge. burial at Oakdale Cem . Mr.Green was born at Peru, Vermont June 7, 1823. In September 1840 he came with his parents to Delaware county. Shortly afterwards, they moved to Mechanicsburg where his father, William Green, died. In 1855, he married Miss Catharine Bancroft. Four chidren were born to them, viz: Flora, William R., Mary E. and Charles J. He has one brother and two sisters surviving him. Mr. Green was a lineal descendant of Elbridge Gerry, a signer of the Declaration of Independence, whose lineage dated back to the Mayflower.

Dr. S. S. Skidmore, a former resident died at his home in Lincoln, Nebraska last week. The remains were brought here and buried at Bethlehem. He was a good physician.

Charles Blake died at St. Francis Hospital in Columbus October 1. The remains were shipped to Milford Center where the funeral services were held by Rev. Taylor, the burial took place in Hathaway Cem. under the direction of Pharisburg IOOF.

Watkins. Departed this life on October 1, Mrs. Rebekah Stimmel, wife of Lisle Stimmel. She is the mother of eleven children, three having preceded her to the better land. Funeral at the home, sermon by Rev. Crist of Ostrander. She was 84 years old. Burial at Ostrander.

p1c6 Suicide. Elias Chambers aged about 32 years, shot himself Friday, he died Sunday. Buried at Rushcreek Cem. He was an unmarried man and had no relatives in the community.

p5c4 Helen C. Russell, the twelve month old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Russell. Mrs. Russell and daughter have been living with the former's mother, Mrs. Captain Algewer and her husband has been working in Cincinnati. Funeral was held at the residence, burial at Oakdale Cem.

Mrs. Ellen Cuddihy died Wednesday at the home of her daughter-in-law Susan Cuddihy. Her funeral was at the Catholic Church. Interment at St. John's Cem. the former's son cruelly deserted his wife and left her penniless with two children to support. By much hard work she was equal to the emergency and has besides, been the support of his mother.

p5c3 John Mackin, an aged citizen of Dover township died Thursday. Funeral services were held at the Catholic Church which consisted of solemn mass, followed by a sermon by Rev. J. G. Venemen. The burial was at St. John's Cem. Mr. Mackin was over 80 years old.

p5c5 Pauline Scott, the eldest daughter of Mrs. J. J. and Mrs. Margaret C. Scott departed this life October 13, 1894 in the sixteenth year of her age. She was born in Marysville January 22, 1879.

October 24, 1894 No 13 p5c3 Thursday Messrs O. M. and J. J. Scott received word that their eldest sister Mrs. Myra Eddy had been killed in a railroad accident near her home in Byron, Illinois. Mrs. Eddy was for a short time a teacher in the Marysville schools.

He served the county in the capacity of sheriff, treasurer and commissioner. He was serving as commissioner at the time the new court house was erected. He served two terms as sheriff and filled out the unexpired term of J. R. Russell, the treasurer, who died 1873. In 1861, he entered the union army as Lieut. of Co B., 32d Regt. OVI and served in that capacity till Feb. 1862 when on account of disability he was compelled to return home. After his return he was appointed U. S. Assessor, which position he held until 1865. He was married in 1849 to Aspe C. Beach who survives him and to this union there are tow children living. -Hylas H. of Washington C.J. and Lizzie Sharrer of this city both Mr. and Mrs. Whelpley are descendants of Vermonters who came to this section long before Union County was formed, and when her lands were a part of Ross county. Mr. Whelpley was born in Union County. He began business in Milford Center as a merchant in 1852 and continued there until he was elected sheriff the first time, sine which time he has lived in Marysville. He was a prominent member of the ME church. Funeral services with Rev. Hodges officiating. Oakdale Cem. p7 Linnie Martin Benton was born June 13, 1872 and departed this life October 13, 1894 at the age of 22 years and 4 months. She was married to Samuel Benton December 31, 1892. One child was born to these parents and still survives.

Truitt, Margaret Myrtle, youngest child of Joshua and Delila Truitt was born near Lily Chapel, Madison County September 18, 1882, died at Broadway October 1, 1894, aged twelve years and 12 days.

October 31, 1894 No 14 p1c6 Died October 24, 1894 in Paris Township, Mrs. Eva Margaret Schoenleben, nee Six relict of John M. Schoenleben at the aged of 66 years 11 months 21 days. The deceased was born Oct. 30, 1826 in Unterfeldbreckt, Kingdom of Bavaria, Germany. Emigrating to America in the early part of 1847, she came to Columbus where she was joined in marriage by Rev. K. Mees with John Michael Schoenleben September 4. One year later, they came to Union County. She bore six sons and two daughters of which two sons have preceded their parents to the eternal home. Trinity Lutheran Cem. There remain one brother, four sons, two daughters, two sonsin-law, four daughters-in-law and twenty-four grandchildren.

p4c5 Irena S. Hisey died October 10, 1894 in her 53rd year. She was born near Milford Center Mary 4, 1842 and was the eldest and last surviving daughter of Isaac and Elizabeth Sanaft, aged 52 years 5 months and 20 days. She was married April 25, 1861 toWm. P. Hisey. To them were born three children, two sons and one daughter, the sons having passed on. She was a member of the Christian Church. She leaves a husband and daughter, three grandchildren, an aged father, one brother.

p5c5 Clara E. Orr was found dead in her bed. it had occurred while Mr. Orr was absent from home and her four sons were attending school. Her maiden name was Clara E. Lytle. She was born February 11, 1861, being 33 years 8 months and 16 days when she died. She was married to Joseph Orr October 1877. Funeral at Parr church near LaRue conducted by Charles C. Kennedy.

p8c3 Josie Hall was born in Clinton county October 11, 1863 died October 17, 1894 aged 31 years and 13 days. She was united in marriage to Martin L. Staley November 10, 1887. To this union have been born two children, the first having preceded her in death about three years. She leaves a husband, one child, a mother, two sisters, three brothers.

November 7, 1894 No 15. p5c1 J. M. Roney of Ostrander has sold his farm in Dover township to a Mr. Dicks of Delaware County. The farm contains 104 acres for which Mr. Roney receives $45 per acre.

November 14, 1894 p5c3 A message came to Mrs. James Fullington announcing the death of her daughter-in-law of Wichita, Kansas, death resulting from a surgical operation. A husband and three daughters are left.

p8 Ostrander. Albert Huntley has his machinery nearly ready to commence the manufacture of washing machines. This is a new enterprise and bids fair to lay an important part in the boom which has struck our village.

Vacant lots can be bought in Ostrander from $75 to $150. There are but five dwellings for sale. The reason is good churches, good schools, good roads, good store, good livery, good lodges and good morals.

November 21, 1891 p1c5 Cornelius Steinmetz died Sunday aged 69 years 3 months 2 days. Funeral conducted by Rev. W. S. Bugby. Oakdale Cem. Mr. Steinmetz was born August 16, 1825 at Clair Spring, Washington County, Maryland and came to Ohio when two years of age. He first lived at Mt. Vernon where he was married to Jane Crotinger of Licking County who survives him. To them three children were born: one son and two daughters. there are eight living grandchildren. The deceased moved to Marysville in 1868.

pic8 George Streng, seven year old son of Lewis Streng was shot and killed by the discharge of a shot gun in the hands of his eleven year old brother, Lewis Streng, Jr. Funeral at the home, burial in adjoining cemetery.

p4c5 Ann Silver, wife of David H. Silver departed this life at the home of her second son Wm. H. Silver Brooklyn, NY, Nov. 8, 1894, 76 years. Funeral services were held at the residence of her son conducted by Rev. John T. Kerr, the husband of her niece Mrs. Julia McConkey Kerr, buried at Milford Center, O. Ann Silver came to Ohio from Maryland in 1839, directly after her marriage. They resided in Milford Center fifteen years. In 1855, Dr. Silver and family moved to Columbus until the death of Dr. Silver at Lookout Mountain, Tenn. June 27, 1864. Three children survive the deceased, Dr. John Galbreath Silver, Dallas Texas, as also does the youngest son Arthur H. Silver. Of a family of four sisters and four brothers of the deceased, one two sisters now survive: Mrs. H. Silver of Jefferson City, Maryland and Miss Mary Galbreath of Baltimore Maryland.

November 28, 1894 p4c3 William Crist, a telegraph operator of Kingsville, Indiana was here last week to attend the funeral of his father, Alexander Crist.

p4c5 Mrs. Andrew Amrine died Tuesday. She was 59. She leaves a husband and four children. p5c2 The ten weeks old child of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Ehrnsberger of Arnold Station was buried at St. John's Cemetery Saturday.

Since 1863 he had been a resident of Marysville. There survive him his wife, two sons and two daughters, also three sisters and four brothers. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. William Ferguson. Oakdale Cem c2 Ryan Chapel. Died on Nov. 6, 1894 of spinal meningitis, the infant Democracy, aged two years. Unionville c2 The family of George Myer has been sadly afflicted, one child dying of whooping cough.

December 5, 1894 p3 Edward McCormick, only son of Mr. and Mrs. James McCormick, while out hunting was shot and killed, age eighteen. Funeral at McKendree church by Rev. Scoles of Richwood assisted by Revs. Brackney and Lindsey.

Mrs. Caroline Sherwood died at the home of her daughter at LaRue. Her husband was Samuel Sherwood. p3c5 Mrs. Walter Beecher is her daughter. Oakdale Cem p/c2 Harry Ernest Edwards was born September 3, 1890 and died November 28, 1894 at his home in New Dover, aged 4 years 2 months and 25 days.

December 12, 1894. Billy Bealer died, 77th year. He had been at the county infirmary for many years. At his request he died in the family home in Washington Township. Disciple cemetery, west of Newton p7c4 Miss Ada Lyons, seventeen years and eight months died at the home of her aunt Mrs. John Brown on the 4th. Funeral at Union church, remains interred in adjoining cemetery.

Mrs. Harriett L. Young daughter of John and Fanny Mordridge Holycross died in Unionville Center November 26, 1894 aged 48 years 1 month and 21 days. She and Mr. Elliott Young were united in marriage August 16, 1866. She was the mother of five children: one died in infancy, a married daughter is living on the Pacific Coast. Rev. J. B. Wilson of Neil Ave UP church conducted funeral services at the church.

p8 Broadway Miss Eva Cole died Wednesday. Funeral services were at Baptist church by Rev. Hill. c2 Richwood. Mr. Frank Barker died at the home of his father Sunday. He was a consumptive.

She was united in marriage with Morgan Savage January 28, 18371 She was a member of the Baptist church. She leaves a husband, two daughters. She died December 12, 1894, 76 years, 6 months, 15 days. Funeral at Presbyterian church at Marysville conducted by Rev. L. C. Webster p5c5 William H. Bouic of Millcreek Township was tried Thursday before Probate Judge McCampbell on an inquest of Lunacy. He had been in the asylum once before and was discharged about three years ago. Judge McCampbell ordered his recommitment and Sheriff Snodgrass took him to Columbus on Friday.

Pearl Crist, the fifteen year old son of Alex. Crist, recently deceased, returned Monday from Columbus where he had been during the past week under the care of Dr. Hamilton, who performed the difficult operation of extracting his right eye. Young Crist had his eye injured when only two years old but it had never given him any serious trouble until a couple of weeks ago when he took cold at the funeral of his father.

p7 Bessie Crist was born at Eden, Delaware county July 19, 1874, only daughter of Rev. A. C. and Lovina P. Crist. In 1876 the family moved to Iberia where Brother Crist became pastor of the Presbyterian church and served until 1889 when all the family came to Ostrander. Here she entered High school and graduated April 25, 1892. Then she gave all her attention to music. January 11, 1891 she united with the Presbyterian church of Ostrander. She served as organist of the church as long as her health would permit. She died December 10, 1894, aged 20 years 5 months and 9 days.

She was the daughter of Judah Dodge, Sr., being the fourth of nine children. Two brothers and four sisters survive. She was united in marriage to Levi Longbrake November 7, 1839. This union was blessed with nine children- four boys and five girls of whom, Elizabeth, wife of Samuel G. Gilcrest, Loren L. of Minneapolis, and Clara J., wife of John M. Cassil are living. His death occurred August 8, 1888. Oakdale Cem Susia Hamner, a daughter of R. W. and Mattie M. Shepherd was born in Albemarle county, Virginia December 25, 1869, married to J. H. Findley at Rickard Crossing Thursday evening. The crossing is in Union County. Four men have been killed at this crossing in the last four years. She was a graduate of our high school, class of p4c3 Died at Monticello, Indiana, January 1°, 1895 Mrs. Maria Irena Smith Harbert, wife of the late Samuel R. Harbert, who formerly lived in Milford Center, Ohio, and was well known in his day as a prominent citizen of that place. Mrs. Harbert was aged 55 years, 10 months and 24 days. She was the daughter of Orson and Irena Smith,who are remembered as being among the first settlers on the Darby Plains. They were the parents of three daughters and one son. She was united in marriage to Samuel R. Harbert, March 12" 1863. To this union six sons were born. Two of them and their father departed this life several years ago, leaving four sons, now young men. Early in life she united with the Presbyterian church. She was buried at Milford Center. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Wm. G. March.

January 31, 1895 Vol 21,No 35p4 c5, mt p1c5. Mrs. Harriet Gill, mother of Judge John F. Gill died Thursday at the home of a daughter Mrs. Edward Wade at Danville, Illinois, aged in her 74th year. She was born in Hardwick, Massachusetts December 10, 1823 and came to Union County with her family when ten years of age. April 13"° 1841, she was married to Andrew Mason Gill and resided on a farm in Union County until his death December, 29, 1864. They were the parents of five children, only two of whom are living: Judge J. S. Gill of Delaware Ohio and Mrs. Edward Wade of Danville, Ill. She was a sister of the late Mrs. David Martin of Danville and of John Granger of Milford Center. The remains were shipped to Milford Center for interment in the Woods cemetery. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. W. G. March., p5c2 Mrs. Elizabeth Thompson relict of the late James Thompson, died Saturday of cancer of the breast, aged in her 57th year. Mr.O.W. Wells residing on the Bellefontaine pike died Tuesday. He was in his 80th year. He had been a resident of the county about 15 years. Oakdale vault.

mt p5c5 Charles M. Kenton died Sunday. His funeral was at the residence, corner of Eighth and Plum streets, services conducted by Rev. W. J. Hodges of the M. E. church, Oakdale. Mrs. Henderson of Mansfield a sister of the deceased, his nephew John Anderson who is attending a medical school in Chicago, and Mrs. Dr. Longnecker of Lancaster, Ohio, an intimate friend of the family was present at the funeral. Mr. Kenton was born at Mt. Vernon, Ohio on the 25" day of October, 1834 and he was 60 years 3 months and 7 days. He attended Mt. Vernon public schools and later the Sloan academy of that city. Journalism was his chosen profession. When eighteen, he became editor of the News at Tipton, lowa, and afterward secured control of the Times at Monticello, Minnesota. He was united in marriage to Margaret Anderson,

He was identified with numerous puboications, among them the Pittsburg Dispatch. He located in Marysville in 1874 and on June 7" of that year published the first number of the Marysville, which name was changed in 1875 to Union County Journal.

March 7, 1895 No 40 Vol 21 p4c4 James V. Sevirn was born December 18, 1825 in Paris Township. On May 18, 1848 he was married to Lucinda Rose. Feb. 28, 1895, at the age of a little more than 69 years he bade his family goodbye. After he grew to manhood on the farm he learned the trade of harness making, and for years he carried on the business at New Dover.

Mr. Sevirn served in the war as a member of Co. H.15th OVI from September 1864 to June '65. Funeral at M. E. Church at New Dover, the religious service conducted by Rev. L. C, Webster assisted by Prof. W.W. Davies of OWU and Masonic services by Palestine Lodge.

Mrs. Roxanna Jewell, widow of ex-county treasurer, Samuel S. Jewell, died Thursday at the home of her daughter, and son-in-law Capt.and Mrs. Theodore Mullen, aged 69 years. Eight children, four sons and four daughters,and a large number of grandchildren are left. Funeral at the home conducted by Rev. W. J. Hodges. March 14, 1895 p6c5 Grandma Beck died Monday near Allen Center, aged 94 years. David Cary Winget died Friday, aged 91 years. He was born in Union Township, Union County

October 22, 1803, the last of six children born to Stephen and Hannah Winget.. He was raised ona farm but early in life learned the carpenter's trade. In 1827, Mr. Winget was married to Miss Rhoda Reed and the fruits of said union were eight sons, four of whom are still living. Mrs.Winget died 1857 and Feb. 17, 1858 Mr. Winget married Miss Lucinda Reed, his first wife's cousin. To this union two sons were born two of whom are still living. At the funeral at the home, Rev. W. A. Ferguson and W. G.March performed the religious service and W. M. Cartmell the Masonic service.

Mr. Winget lived in Ohio until he was about 26 years of age, then emigrated to Missouri where he resided in St. Louis and Philadelphia, Mo. for about twenty years. He returned to Ohio in 1848 and has lived in Plain City and Marysville until his death. He was a member of the Presbyterian church for over sixty-five years and an Elder most of that time. At age 78, he fell on the ice and never recovered from the injury. Also mt 3-13-1895 p 5 mt p4c2 Rev. C. 1, Winget, chaplain of the Ohio penitentiary spent the Sabbath here and attended the funeral of David Winget. In the evening he delivered an interesting discourse in the Presbyterian Church.

mt 3-6-1895 p1c3 Chuckery. Several from this place attended the funeral of Loren Keyes which was at the Baptist church at Milford last Thursday.

Mt 3-13-1895 Caroline Chavous, a respected colored lady of this city died Thursday of Paralysis. She was 56 years of age and for twenty years had been a resident of Marysville. Funeral was at the A. M. E. church, the pastor Rev. Clark and Rev. Ferguson of the Presbyterian church officiating. The body was placed in the vault at Oakdale and will be buried in the cemetery in the Cotton Slash neighborhood where Mrs. Chavous formerly resided. Of her ten children, six are living.

mt p4c1 Rev. Charles R. Dunbar of Allen Center died Sunday at the Columbus depot where he had spent the night intending to take the 5 o'clock train to this city. He had intended to meet his son and daughter in Columbus but they did not find him. Funeral at Allen Center church. His mind had been unbalanced for a number of years. He had musical talent of a high order and had written several hymns.

March 21, 1895 No 42 p3 c4 Martha, wife of George Dugan died at the home of her daughter Mrs. P. L. Coe March 12, 1895 aged 62 years 11 months a nd 16 days, Her maiden name was Martha Lee who was born in Hampshire County, Va. March 27, 1832. She came with her parents to Ohio in the fall of 1833 and located in Clark County where they spent one year and then made a permanent settlement in Union County. On March1, 1859 she was united in marriage to George Dugan. To this union three daughters were born, who with her husband, two grandchildren, four brothers and two sisters are left. Esburn Robinson and daughter of Mrs. and Mrs. Henry B. Knotts died . She was the youngest of nine children. April; 19, 1893 she was united in marriage to Mr. J. Esburn Robinson April 18, 1893. J. W. Southard and wife were called to Delaware last week to attend the funeral of their cousin Thomas Critchard a former resident of this county. He was a fireman on the Big Four and was killed while his engine was passing out of the roundhouse.

She was baptized and united with the Christian church in Millcreek Township in 1841. She leaves a husband and 5 children.

April 4, 1895 p4c3 Mrs. Barbara Wagner died Friday aged 88 years, 3 months and 14 days. She was born Dec. 15, 1806 at Baerenbach near Neustadt, Bavaria, Germany. Her maiden name was Preisz. March 14, 1830 she was united in marriage to Mr. John Geer at Markt Eribach, Germany. In 1836 with her husband and her father's family she came to America and they settled at Hamilton, O. A year later they moved to this county. Mr. Geer died May 29, 1843. This union was blessed with eight children, four of whom survive her, three daughters and a son. She entered a second union with Wm. Wagner, of Daschendorf,Germany in October 1844 who died August 1860. This union was blessed with a son, John Wagner, who died at Silver City, N.M. in 1879. She leaves four children, twenty-four grandchildren and twenty-five great-grandchildren. Her funeral was held in the Lutheran church conducted by Rev. F. W. Wiechers and interment was in the Settlement cemetery. She was the wife of Mr. Ira Gordon, of Washington D.C. and eldest daughter of Mrs. Jane Torrence of this city. She was married December 27, 1881 and since then has lived in Washington D. C. where her husband holds a responsible position in the Surgeon General's office to the War Department.

April 11, 1895 No 45 Vol 21 p 3c3 Nancy J Jones was born Jan. 11, 1828 in Guernsey County, O. She was married to John Green of Hocking county, Aug. 12, 1845. She was the mother of ten children, five of whom have passed on before her, four sons and one daughter still survive. She died at Somersville of pneumonia March 30, 1895, after being a resident of this county for 35 years, aged 67 years, 2 months and 19 days. Her daughter Mrs. Alex Howland also mt 4-10- p7c3

March 31, 1895 aged 26 year 2 months and 14 days. She was born near New Dover Jan. 17, 1869, and with her parents moved to Hutchinson in 1885. She had recently engaged in the millinery business. She leaves a father, stepmother, three brothers and three sisters. The remains were brought back to the home of her sister, Mrs. W. A. McKitrick for services, The body was taken to Ostrander where it was interred in the family lot.

Mrs. Rheuhana Kelsey, wife of Nathan Kelsey of Dover township, died Sunday aged 70 years and 20 days, Burial in BluesCreek cemetery. She was a sister of S. L. Laughrey.

Chas. Troup died on Wednesday aged 20 years, 2 months and 6 days The father, Isaac Troup died Thursday. Both had pneumonia. Isaac died at the age of 54 years, 1 month and 26 days and was a soldier of the war of the rebellion.

mt 4-10-1895 p7 c3 Martin Johnson was born May 28" 1818. Died april 3d, 1895 aged 76 years 10 months and 5 days. He was united in marriage with Rosamond Farnum October 1839. Nine children blessed their home of which the mother and six children have preceded him in death. He was united in marriage with Susan M. Walker November 2d, 1861 who is left. Of this union two children are left. He first joined the M. E. in Green Camp, ohio. After moving to Union County, 1862, joined M. P. Church, Grace Chapel. Funeral services at Byhalia. D.E. T.

p8c2 James Smith Alexander was born in Mt. Vernon, Knox county on Dec. 17, 1813, died in Continental, Putnam county, April 9, 1895, aged 81 years 3 months and 22 days, He was married to Miss Nancy C. Triford Sept, 1831 by whom he had 14 children. His wife died in Nov, '57 Four children died before and two after the mother. In 1860, he married Mrs Lydia Lorbug by whom he had six children, two are living. Services were held in the M.E. church by Rev. W. J. Hodges. Oakdale Cem. mt 3-10-p 5 c3 Word has been received of the death of J. S. Alexander. Father of Mrs. Jeff G. Turner and J. S. Alexander of this city. He had lived at Continental nearly 25 years. His death resulted from heart disease.

mt 4-17-1895 p5c3 Dr. Albert McKitrick, formerly of Millcreek Township but more recently a practitioner at Five Points near Circleville died last Saturday from the effects of morphine which he took by mistake, thinking it was quinine. Funeral Monday.

May 1, 1895 mt Plain City. The funeral of David McCunetook place Sunday at the M. E. church, Rev. Postal officiating, assisted by Revs. Work and Hund. He was past seventy, was born and lived the entire time in this community and was twice enlisted in the Civil War. He leaves a widow but no children. A number of The Grand Army Post took charge, of which he was a member. Comrades from Hilliard Post were present and assisted.

p4c1 Amos Inskeep, who killed Deputy Sheriff Rockwell on his farm near West Middleburg some years ago, died Sunday at the home of his sister in Milford, Illinois where he had been making his home. Inskeep's trial was held in Union County on a change of venue and he was sentenced to life imprisonment in Onio penitentiary. He was pardoned several years ago on account of ill health

May 2, 1895 No 48 p5c2 Isabel Jane Hawkins was the daughter of William and Catherine Smart and was born in Delaware County Oct. 19, 1830. November 20, 1848 she was united in marriage to Mr.Joseph G. Hawkins. To this union two children were born.William Le Roy, who died in 1864 at the age of 13 and Submit Catharine wife of George Boenan of New York. She was 64 years, 6 months and 8 days old and leaves a daughter and two brothers B.F. Smart of this city and Milton C. Smart of Continental, Ohio. She died April 27, 1895. Also mt May 1, 1895 c4

Miss Orissa_D olbear, sister of S.W. Dolbear, died May 13th. Buried Woods cemetery in Darby township by the side of her parents. Miss Dolbear was for many years a school teacher and formerly taught in the public schools of this city. Mt 5-29- Ora A. Dolbear, daughter of Rev. Benjamin and Eliza Dolbear was born in Milford Center. She was educated at Granville, and began teaching at the age of sixteen. She taught in Marysville, Springfield,Mass; Sprinfield, Illionis; St. Louis, Mo. and Cincinnati public schools. Also taught Franch and German in Nashville, Tenn and at Wesleyan College, Cincinnati. She translated for publication a number of articles form the French, German and Spanish.

MAY 22, 1895 mt p 1 c 3 Fountain Park. Winnie, Youngest child of Levi and Sarah Jane Milledge died Sunday of consumption. Hattie, another daughter died of the same disease a few weeks ago and on Friday Mary 16, William Heller, a son-in-law died in Springfield of cancer.

mt p5c5 F. F. Hazen died at Central State Hospital for the Insane May 29" aged 47 years and two days. He was born in Geauga County and came to Marysville about 1868 and became well and favorably known throughout the county. Burial at Oakdale. Services will be at the residence in charge of Palestine Lodge F and A. of which he was a member and religious services will be conducted by Rev. Bugby, Congregational church. Dr.N. K..Moxley one of the best known physicians of this city died Sunday night.Nathaniel King Moxley was born in Tunbrudge, Orange county, Vermont,February 18, 1818. His father, Thomas Moxley was an eminent physician in his day.After passing the first fifteen years of his life on the farm, N. H. Moxley took an academic course and attended lectures at Dartmouth college and graduated from the medical department of the University of New York. He came to Ohio in 1841, married Miss Sophia McConnell, of Wheelersburg, in '48 and settled in Ironton in '51 and remained there until his death. Mt 6-5 During the past week Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Kinkade have been in Ironton. Mrs. Kinkade's father, Dr. N. K. Moxley, Sr. died. He was a graduate of Ohio Wesleyan University and has been honored with many offices of trust and distinction. He was a member of the Masonic fraternity and was also and Odd Fellow.

mt 5-29-1895 p 5 Death of Albert S. Chapman. Albert Chapman was born in Worthington, Franklin county April 26", 1823 and was 72 years and 1 month. He was twice married. His first union was with Miss Eveline M. Couch of Springfield. To this union were born three children, but Charles Stansberry, cashier of the Peoples Bank is the only survi vor. Mrs. Chapman died several years ago and about three months ago deceased contracted a second marriage with a Mrs. Hill, who survives. The funeral took place at the home. Rev. p8 c5 Unionville John Douglas, the old soldier and prominent farmer of Jerome township who met with a serious accident lately while mounting a horse died Saturday at the home of a neighbor, Mrs. Greenbaum. Funeral under auspices of GAR Posts of Marysville were held in Universalist church in Plain City. Mr. Douglas was in his 66" year mt 6-5 p8c3 John Douglass died at the home of Peter Blumenschein June 2d, age 65. Buried with GAR honors. Services at Universalist church at Plain City. Aaron Hall well-known inmate of the infirmary died there Friday aged 83 years 7 months. He was twice married, being the father of 21 children, 9 of whom survive him. There are thirty grandchildren living. three sons participated in the late war.

mt 6-12 Harry E. McAdow was the oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. T. J. McAdow. He was born in York Township January 1, 1867 and was 28 years of age.

June 19, 1895 mt p7c5 obit. Mrs. Mary Ann Miller died at the home of Jesse Laughrey near Asbury church Saturday. Funeral services at Hanover, Licking county where burial was made. She was born in Baltimore, MD. in 1804 and was aged 90 years 6 months, 1 day. She leaves two sons, two daughters and a number of grandchildren.

p8c2 Woodstock. Lenny Ellsworth died at Lima last week and his body was brought here. Services were held at the Christian chapel by Rev. N. R. Quackenbush of Plain City. He leaves a wife.

p5c5 Rev. Dr. W. G. March died Monday. He was in the active ministry of the Presbyterian Church for forty years. Rev. William Gilmore March was born in Columbia county, O. .April 4, 1826. He was the son of Philip and Sarah Gilmore March. His father represented his county in the legislature in the early fifties and was a prominent man in his section. The deceased passed through the district school in his native county, attended Jefferson college where he graduated in 1848. He then attended the Western Theological Seminary, from which he graduated in 1853. December '54,he was ordained by the presbytery of New Lisbon and began active work in the ministry. He was pastor at Canfield twelve years, except the short time he served in the army as a member of the 115th OVI from August 22, 1864 to November 8 of the same year. In 1867 he became the pastor of the church in this city and served it for thirteen years when he resigned the pastorate. Since then he has continued to reside here and has filled various pulpits in this and adjoining counties. Jefferson College conferred the degree of master of arts upon him in 1851 and doctor of divinity in 1878. In October 1853 he was united in marriage to Miss Elizabeth J. Elder of Pittsburgh, Pa. and to this union two children were born, a daughter and son, who, with the widow and mother, mourn his death. His funeral ceremonies were conducted by Rev. Dr. A. D. The following history of Aunt Kate Snodgrass was contributed by Mrs. Hiram Burnham. Grandfather King was killed in the Revolutionary War, grandmother was left with four sons and four daughters. One son "Balsar King was "bound out' and received six months schooling in German and the same in English.

Balsar King was married to Elizabeth Kriner and to them were born five children. The second daughter, Katharine (better known as Aunt Katy), was born in Stanton, Va. January 6, 1796. Her parents moved to Kentucky when she was four years old and lived there eight years. In 1807, they moved to Ohio, stopping in Green County. Mr. King bought a Revolutionary Soldier's land warrant in Union County, the land now known as the Uncle Ray Morse property. A log house was soon built and they moved in; later a larger log house was erected and during the War of 1812 nine families gathered there for protection from the Indians.

Mr. King and Mr. Andrew Gill were sent to Upper Sandusky as spies; they were surrounded by Indians; with horses and guns demanded. The men inquired about horse thieves. The Indians gave them supper and breakfast then sent them away.

Aunt Katy's educational privileges were very few; only three months school was held each winter. She learned to read in the Testamant and write. A Young man named Ralph A. Phelps who had been engaged in carrying the U.S. Mail from Worthington to Urbana was hired to teach their district school. Miss Katy became his bride September 5, 1818. To them were born four children, Elizabeth, Mary, William and Ralph. They moved north of Marysville and spent two years in the wilderness raising hogs to feed upon mast. Wolves howled about the house and fires were built to frighten them away. Herding being unprofitable, they returned to their own land. They raised flax and made all their clothing. She could weave five yards of linen in a day. February 26, 1831, Mr. Phelps died.

Katharine Phelps married for her second husband James Snodgrass March 12, 1835. Three children were born, the two daughters died in infancy. Their son married Sarah Shirk. Joseph & Sarah died within three days of each other leaving three childen. Mr. James Snodgrass died January 30, 1867, aged 72 years.

She had been a member of the Presbyterian Church for 50 years. She is now nearly 100. Sheisa member of the Women's Relief Corps (Silas Kimbal Post). Also mt 7-3- p1c3

Jas. K. Polk Welsh aged 51 years died Tuesday. Mr. Welsh's wife died last fall and his death leaves a family of nine children, three of whom are married. Also July 3 p 1 c3

July 11, 1895 p4c3 Oda Elmer Green died at the home of his sister, Mrs. Alex. Howland aged 27 years, 7 months and 20 days. Mr. Green was born at Somerville November 14, 1867 p5c3 Chas. M. Price, aged 20 years died Tuesday of typhoid fever. Mt 7-10-1895 c3 Chas. Price, a laborer at the hub and spoke factory died Tuesday at the home of his father, age twenty years. Mr. Price was a brother to Mrs. Maris, our housekeeper, who is convalescing at the home of her father.

p6c2 Richwood. A. J. Johnson, colored, 54, died Friday. He was a member of Livingston post GAR. A brother of Dr. Hall died Friday. He was a staunch Democrat and a member of the MP church in mt 7-17- p1c4 Mrs. James Mills funeral at Asbury M. E. church. Lydia Ann (Turner) Mills was born in Union County January 6, 1846 and died July 14, 1895 aged 49 years 6 months 5 days. She was married to James Mills April 12, 1868. To this union were born nine children, six sons and three daughters of whom seven are living.

c2 The three month's old babe of Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Wilcox died of pnumonia Friday. Buried Mt. Herman cemetery in Dover Township. Mt p5c5 Hazel Lelwise, the daughter of Mrs. and Mrs. C. R. Wilcox, Tenth Street died. Mt. Hermon Cemetery. Rev. William M. Haines officiated.

p5c4 Grand/Grant Darrow 27, died Sunday. His remains were shipped to his home in Mechanicsburg for interment. Mt 7-17 p1c4 Grant was son of George Darrow.

mt 7-24-1895 p4c3 Rev. Dr. Daniel D. Mather died Wednesday in Delaware. He was born at Milford Center April 2, 1822. In 1842 he adopted the ministry and remained a constant worker for more than a quarter of a century during which time he filled an appointment at Richwood. He was superannuated in 1885 and has since resided in Delaware.

mt 7-24-p4c5 Irma Louise, daughter of William and Gertie Myers was born September 2, 1894 and died June 29, 1895 aged 9 months 27 days. Her mother died when she was three weeks old. She was cared for by her grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Adam Shirk. Funeral at Union church. Rev. Williams officiating. Oakdale. Mrs. S. A. Sterling

July 25, 1895 p4c4 Mr. Veit Koerner died of typhoid. His business was draying and express messenger. October 18, 1894 his youngest brother George died of the same disease. He was the son of John H. & Elizabeth Koerner, born in this county Feb. 9, 1868. He joined the Evangelical Lutheran church. April 7, '90 he was united in marriage with Miss Catharine Doelp. This union was blessed with three children, one of whom died and the other two little ones are left. He leaves five sisters, a brothers and mother. The funeral was at the Lutheran church. p4c4 Mrs. Anna E. Erb of Milford, mother of Erb brothers, died Friday of heart disease, aged 63. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. F. W. C. Wiechers. Mt 7-24 c3 Pallbearers were her four sons Charles, George,Lewis and William.

Obit. Our deceased sister, Anna Elizabeth Erb, nee Prior was born at Werkal, near Kassel, Hessia, Germany October 24, 1832. At the age of 20 she emigrated to America, first settling at Columbus O. and one year later we find her at Milford Center. Here she married Charles Frederick Erb March 26, 1854. This union was blessed with five sons and five daughters of whom one son and three daughters have preceded her into eternity Her husband died April 5, 1874. She leaves two brothers, one sister and eight grandchildren.
