V. J. Payne, sexton, reports that there were fourteen bodies in Oakdale vault Jan 13 as follows: Miss Georgie Thompson, 22; William McPeck, 68; Abraham Sager, 55; John F. Sabine, 89; Mercy Turner, 65; Nelson Hyland, 62; Adam Wolford, 67; Nancy Wolford, 53; Orilla Roney, 32; Catharine Powers, 70; Elizabeth Gibson, 71; Hugh Moore, 96; Sabrina Wells, 73; John R. Evans, 53. Four bodies were buried last week: Mary Turner, 85; Henry Bennett, 39; Mariam Crist, 75; infant of Chas. Blue, 6 weeks; child of Wm. Barker, 14 months. Number of burials in Oakdale Cem November 30. 1891, 690. About 100 were removals from other cemeteries.

p5c3 Horrible Death- Isaac Stofer, Claibourne Tp, died as a result of and accident, tearing down a building. He was about fifty years, and leaves a wife and daughter.

John R. Evans, a colored man, died Sunday of consumption. p8 Died Jan. 10. 1892. He was born in North Carolina Dec. 25, 1831. He was a member of the Baptist church. He leaves a wife and seven children.

Elliott. Theresa Davis was born in Harrison County, April 17, 1817, died December 27, 1891, aged 74 years, 8 months, 10 days. She was married to John Elliott in 1846. To this union two children were born, a son and a daughter, both of whom survive her.

Mrs. Catharine Powers died at her home in Allen Township January 2d, 1892 of lagrippe, aged 72 years. Mrs. Powers was born in the south of Ireland and with her husband and four children emigrated to this country in 1848 and shortly after settled in Union County. Funeral at Church of Our Lady of Lourdes. Four sons and two grandsons were pallbearers. She leaves a husband, four sons and three daughters.

Mary Turner: Mary Vance was born Hartford County, Maryland March 13, 1807 and died January 10, 1892 in the 85th year of age. She was married to Robert Turner about 1851 and soon after settled in Marysville. She united with the Bethel Presbyterian church in Maryland and was a member of the Marysville Presbyterian church about 40 years. Buried Oakdale Cem, pastors W. A. Ferguson and Rev. W. G. March, officiating.

Mr. Hugh Moore was born in Charleston, W.Va. August 2d 1795, died January 7, 1892, aged 96 years 5 months and 5 days. Mr. Moore came to Ohio with his father at the age of fifteen and settled where Cincinnati now stands. At the age of 22, he was married to Miss Louk. He was the father of eleven children, five of whom are now living, the youngest now 55 years of age. He took part in the War of 1812. He had twenty-seven grand children thirty-eight great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren. His father, Jonathon Moore lived to be 101 years old, his mother to 100 years old. His father was Chief of the Life Guard of General Washington. He was with Washington when he crossed the Delaware Rriver on the ice and at the battle of Trenton. His father was with Washington when he parted with his officers at the close of the Revolutionary War.

p5c2 The home of Dr. T. P. Shields and wife, of Millcreek Township was the scene of a pleasant gathering of friends on Wednesday January 20, the occasion being the marriage of their daughter, Thomasia and Joseph C. Sweeney. The union was solemnized by the Rev. A. C. Crist in the Episcopal ceremony. They were the recipients of many useful and handsome presents. The TRIBUNE congratulates the happy couple and extends its best wishes for a future of happiness and prosperity.

p5c3 F. X. Eaton died suddenly of heart disease at his home in Leon, Decatur County, lowa, January 18, 1892. Mr. Eaton was born in Licking County, Ohio, October 1825 and was a little over 66 years old. He was the brother of the Misses Eaton of this place-Martha and Miranda- and also a brother of John F. and J. O. Eaton, the latter an eminent artist of New York. Mr. Eaton moved from the vicinity of Marysville to lowa in 1865, where he has since resided. He leaves a wife, five daughters and one son.

p8c5 Mrs. Matilda Wagner Winget was born April 30, 1806 in Farquahr County, W Va. She was the oldest child of Thomas and Mary Marshall who removed to Ohio in 1808, settling in Logan County for a period of two or three years and coming to Union County in 1829. She was married to Stephen Winget October 20, 1829 and with him joined the Presbyterian Church about 1831. Mr. Winget was an elder many years in the Marysville Presbyterian church Mrs. Winget died January 25, 1892, 86.

p5 S. Frank Cratty, only son of T. P. Cratty, a former merchant of Richwood died at his home in Topeka, Kansas, Jan. 30. He was born in Marion County Sept. 7, 1862 and was married to Dorcas Smith in August 1882. They moved to Topeka, Kansas five years ago. The following year Mrs. Cratty died, leaving a little daughter. Her remains were interred in Oakdale. His remains were brought here, accompanied by T. P. Cratty and little granddaughter, Vera. Funeral services were held at the home of his brother-in-law, Sheriff Martin, Tuesday, under the auspices of the K. of P. p5c5 Mrs. J. B. Brookins. of Shawnee and Mrs. Trenton Fish and Mr. Royal Fish wee called here Monday to attend the funeral of Frank Cratty.

Marsh and Wilgus attended the funeral last week of their grandfather, Robert Wilgus, aged 97 years. He had six children, twenty-two grandchildren fifty six great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.

p5c4 Mrs. Robert Smith was called to Marion by a telegram announcing the serious illness of her father Orrin Beem who was fatally crushed by falling earth while working on a sewer trench.

p5c2 Mrs. Jonathan Burt died Sunday at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Abbie Monroe, Columbus. Her remains were sent to Nebraska, where her husband died some years since. William McGraw, Marysville, died Monday For many years he ran the ashery for Judge Woods. He was 73.

p5c3 Mrs. L. E. Bellus, S. Main Street died Saturday. Mrs. Bellus was a daughter of Dr. C. Rathbun, an old time citizen of Marysville. She was a member of the Congregational church. She leaves a husband but no children.

p8c3 York Deborah Wheeler was born August 14, 1818 in Athens County. Was married to Samuel Wright April 14, 1838. Departed this life January 16, 1892, aged 73 years, 5 months and 28 days. She was a member of the U. B. Church. She, with her husband moved to Washington Township, Union County, November 1848, where she died. She was the mother of nine children, two of whom precede her to the goodly land. Funeral services by Rev. Henry Baldwin.

p8c1 Broadway. Old Mr. Hitt died Thursday. Mrs. Maggie Thompson, n. Lewisburg was in Broadway Saturday attending the funeral of her grandfather, Mr. Hitt.

February 17, 1892 pic4 Mrs. Margaret Wood, wife of John Wood died February 13. She was thirtysix. She leaves a husband and seven children to mourn her loss, the youngest a babe two month's old. Funeral was conducted by Rev. F. J. Kinney at Pleasantview Church.

c8 Ostrander. Benjamin Turney, a pioneer of Millcreek Township, but for the last twenty-five years a resident here died aged seventy three. For many years he has been a ruling elder in the Presbyterian Church.

Otis Gabriel will arrive here today from Missouri, having in charge the remains of his wife who died leaving two very small children who are with their grandpa, Luther Gabriel.

p5c2 Mrs. Kightlinger, the wife of William Kightlinger, died at her home North Maple street Saturday. Her death was somewhat sudden and her loss is a serious calamity to her husband, who is blind and largely dependent upon her care and guidance.

c3 The funeral services of Christopher Houston were Friday. The discourse was delivered by Rev. W. A. Ferguson. Mr. Houston was born in County Tyone Ireland, March 14, 1829. He came to this country when but 10 years old and about a year later located in Marysville.

c4 Judge Philander B. Cole was born in Columbus, Ohio October 10, 1815 and was in his 77th year at the time of his death. He came to Marysville in 1833 at seventeen years when he entered school under the tutorship of William C. Lawrence. The following year he left Marysville and entered upon a college course at Granville, Ohio where he remained until the end of the year when on account of ill health and lack of funds he was compelled to abandon the hope of obtaining a college education. He returned to Marysville and commenced the study of law in the office of Wm. C. Lawrence and was admitted to the bar in 1836. In 1838 he was elected on the Whig ticket to the office of Prosecuting Attorney. He was re-elected in 1840, defeated in 1842, elected in 1844.

About this time, he associated himself with Mr. Lawrence and started a newspaper the ARGUS which was the foundation of the present Tribune, Mrs. Cole continued as its publisher, with the exception of one year, until 1849. In the fall of 1850, Mr. Cole was nominated and elected

Representative to the Legislature for Union and Madison counties. In 1851, he was elected for Union County, it then being entitled to one representative. He received the vote of his party for speaker of the House, but being in the minority, was not elected. Mr. Cole was a delegate to the National Republican convention in 1864. He was elected in 1884 as a member of the electoral college in support of Blaine for the Presidency and was chosen to convey the result of the Ohio election to Washington. He was elected to the State senate in 1865, and supported the amendment to the constitution giving the right of suffrage to colored men. In 1871 he was elected to the office of Common Pleas Judge. He was married in 1839 to Miss Dollie B. Witter who survives him. His death resulted from heart failure. Funeral services at the Presbyterian Church. p5c6 Mrs. Chas. W. Fairbanks came to the city to see her father, P. B. Cole. p8c5 Mrs. Sarah A. Sarver, daughter of William and Sarah Lister was born in Ross County March 1, 1819 and died in Marysville at the residence of her son-in-law, G. B. Frazier February 4, 1892, aged 72 years, 11 months and 3 days. She was married to Jacob Sarver in the spring of 1844. His death was August 29, 1877.

She was the mother of eleven children, seven sons and four daughters, ten of whom are living. She lived to see forty-three gr. children and one gr-grandchild. D.J. Schrenck, Pastor U. B. Church John Carter was born in Clark County April 29, 1814. In 1820, he moved with his parents to Union County. His death occurred January 18, 1892. In 1835, he was married to Fannie Williams who died July 23, 1871. This union was blessed with one son and five daughters, one of whom is dead. He was again married October 25, 1883 to Miss Della Patrick. He was a member of

March 2, 1892 Vol 43 No 31. p8c4 Peter Hitt was born in Fauquhar County, Virginia March 5, 1811 and when seventeen he moved to Perry County, Ohio. They were there four years. In 1831, he was married to Mary Rowley. They were members of the Christian church at Millcreek. To them were born nine children- five girls and four boys of which three girls and two boys are still living. They had twenty-nine grandchildren and twenty-four great grandchildren. (The above was written by himself). Grandpa Hitt lived for a number of years in Union County and died near Broadway, February 17, 1892.

March 9, 1892. p5c2 Stephen Graham, as the administrator of the estate of George Graham, deceased will sell at public vendue at his late residence in Dover township March 24, 1892, all the live stock, hay, farming utensils and household goods of said deceased. A credit of nine months on all sums of five dollars and over, and cash in all sums under five dollars. Stephen Graham appointed administrator of the estate of George Graham, bond $2,200.

p8c5 John Beard was born in Franklin county April 30, 1826 and died February 22, 1862, aged 65 years, 9 months and 22 days. He was married to Hannah Maria Savage November 10, 1868. Soon after their marriage, they moved to California. Four children were born to them there. In a short time Mrs. Beard's mind became deranged. She was removed to Napa asylum at Sacramento Mr. Beard returned to Union County in 1882 with his children, leaving them with their grandparents. In 1884, he returned to California and on account of poor health returned in 1890. He leaves a wife and four children- two boys and two girls. The boys are in California.

March 16, 1892. p8c1 Arbela. Grandfather Tainer departed this life March 8, 1892, aged seventytwo years. Funeral services at Grace Chapel, conducted by Rev. Jackson.

Bluescreek. Josiah Mackling, son of G. W. Mackling, died last week and was buried at Bluescreek cemetery. He was born May 31, 1866, died March 9, 1892, aged 25 years, 9 months and 8 days. Broadway Davis Robbins, aged 18, sixth son of Charles and Katie Robins died Saturday with heart trouble.

York. Mrs. Mary A. Sigler, wife of Wm. Sigler, aged 73 years, died March 12. Funeral services the 14th, Rev. Strother officiating. Six children are left to mourn their loss.

March 23, 1892 p4c1 Funeral sermon of P. B. Cole by Rev. W. G. March. Description of death of Samuel McAllister in train accident. He was about 60, and was until a few years ago a resident of Marysville, when he bought a farm in Allen Township and moved there with his family. His daughter is Minnie, son in law W. D. Pudney. p5c6 L. L. Wilson killed in boiler explosion in Milford. He leaves a wife and three children who reside at Newton and one daughter working at Continental Hotel. He was thirty-four. p8c2 Charles Reed died of lung trouble last week. He was born in Marysville in 1869.

c3 Peoria. The tolling of the church bell Tuesday announced the death of Grandfather Jenkins, eighty-two years of age. Funeral at Union church at Newton, by Rev. Gow. The remains were laid to rest at Newton.

The divorced wife of James McDonald came to his residence during his absence and took possession of their two children, returning to Columbus with them.

York. A son of Joseph M. and Maggie A. Russell departed this life March 26, 1892 aged 1 year, 9 months and 28 days. Funeral services at McKendree chapel, Rev. Strother officiating.

Mrs. Nancy Lash died at Girard, Kansas February 27, 1892, aged 59 years, 5 months and 7 days. The deceased was a daughter of Wesley Amrine. born at Marysville September 20, 1832, married to John Lash December 24, 1855, removing to Missouri with her husband in 1858 and from thence to Fort Scott, Kansas Mary 20, 161. in 1868, she came to Girard, her family being the first to move here and she and her husband opened the first boarding house. Her daughter, Mary, who died many years ago taught the first school in the place. A husband and three children survive her. The children are Frank M. and Guy C. Lash and Mrs. Stella Gooding.

Green. At the residence of his father and mother, in Leesburg Township March 1, 1892, Charles B. Green died, aged 26 years and 29 days. He leaves a wife and daughter.

p5c3 Mrs. A. C. Pierson, of Chattanooga, Tenn. died Sunday of consumption. Her daughter, Mrs. C. M. Ingman. Mrs. Pierson was for many years a resident of Marysville. Body placed in Oakdale vault. p8c2 Ostrander Dr. J. H. Field of Knoxville. Tenn, accompanied by his daughter, Nettie, returned to Ostrander with the remains of the Dr's father. Dr. Field was a pioneer of Scioto Township. He was a forty-niner, going to California that year, where he accumulated a fortune. He returned to Ostrander and for many years occupied a prominent position both in church and the medical profession.

p5c5 Mrs. Mary E. Reynolds, wife of E. L. Reynolds died Monday in the 66th year of age. Funeral services at the family residence, Dr. Waters officiating.

p8c2 Albert Wood, died April 3 after an illness of several weeks, aged fifty years. Funeral conducted by N. J. Kinney at Pleasant View, after which his remains were laid in Maskill cemetery. He leaves a wife, one son and other relatives to mourn his loss.

April 20, 1892 vol 43 p 38 p4 Obit. Malinda Poling was born in Barber County, West Virginia October 11, 1835. Her parents moved to Union County when she was four. She was married to George W. Knepper August 1, 1824 and to them were born six children. In 1871 she united with the Allen Center Baptist church. She died March 16, 1892. She leaves one daughter and two sons. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. F. M. Myers.

p5c3 Lottie Zwerner the second child of George P. Zwerner and wife died Monday. Funeral services were at the German Lutheran Church conducted by Rev. Boerman. Also 4-27-1892 p5c2 p5c2 Jerome. Mrs. Elizabeth M. Hill died at the residence of her daughter, Mrs.O. D. Cutler at Findlay O. April 14, aged 65 years. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Crist.

April 27, 1892 p 8 New Dover Aunt Catherine "Katie" Andrews died while on a visit to Urbana. Her remains were brought back by her son Michael Myers to Mt. Hermon Cemetery.

c4 Sarah M. Coder was born February 8, 1874 and died April 7, 1892, aged 18 years and 29 days. She was the only child of James & Josephine Coder.

Mary Dee Webster was born December 2, 1818, was married October 8, 1841 and passed into the spirit world April 12, 1891. Mrs. Webster was the mother of three daughters and five sons all of whom survive except the oldest son who gave his life for the defense of his country at Harper's

Barnett Jane Hardin was born near Uniontown, Fayette County Pennsylvania May 9, 1837 and moved with her parents, Esau and Ann Hardin to Union County about 1857. Was married to Samuel J. Barnett February 11, 1860. to them were born seven children- four sons and three daughters of which four sons and one daughter are living. She died April 11, 1892, aged 54 years, 11 months and 2 days old, leaving her husband, children and other relatives. Funeral by Rev. Gow.

p5 Death of John B. Coats John B. Coats departed this life April 29, 1892, aged 70 years, 7 months and 24 days.. Judge Coats was born at Guilford, Windham County, Vermont Sept. 5, 1821. In 1842 at the age of 19 years he came to Ohio and located at Xenia. Shortly after, he began teaching school near Jamestown, Greene County. He followed teaching until 1848, at the same studying law with John W. Watson of Xenia. He was admitted to the bar in 1847. Being in poor health he returned to Vermont. He rapidly recovered health and in 1849 returned to Ohio and located in Marysville. He formed a law partnership with P. B. Cole which continued until 1851. About this time, he became assistant editor of Marysville Tribune, C. S. Hamilton being the editor-in-chief. In 1853 he purchased the office of Hamilton and ran the paper one year when it reverted back to Hamilton. He then formed a law partnership with John L. Porter which continued with a brief interruption till 1852 when Mr. Porter went into the army.

In 1858, Mr. Coats became assistant editor of the "Union Press" and continued as such one year when he became the sole editor until 1863 when the office was sold to the Democrats and the name and politics of the paper where changed. He filled the office of Justice of the Peace from 1851 to 1857. In 1859 he was elected Prosecuting Attorney and held the office three terms in succession. In 1869 he was elected Probate Judge of the county and held that office six successive terms. In 1873 he was nominated and elected a delegate to the Constitutional Convention.

Judge Coats was married April 20, 1854 to Catharine P. Vastine of Delaware County, who survives him. This union was blessed with three children, two sons and a daughter, the oldest son and the daughter having preceded him to the spirit land. Mr. Coats was an old time whig and when the party was abandoned in 1855, he was a delegate to the convention at Columbus that formed the Republican party. p5c8 Dr. Vastine of Nebraska was called here this week to attend the funeral of his brother-in-law, Judge Coats. p8c5 Henry Chappel was born in Chenango County, New York. November 9, 1854. He came to Ohio with his parents in the year 1872. He was united in marriage to Miss Ella Paxon April 18, 1875. To this union was born one son. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Begley at North Lewisburg.

May 11, 1892. p8c1 Amrine. We are sad over the death of our relative, Mrs. Ella Fish near Byhalia. Funeral at Amrine Chapel, remains placed in Oakdale Cem vault.

New California- Mrs. Sarah Ann Clevenger died some two weeks ago. Funeral services by Rev. J. B. Atkins. Remains were taken to the old cemetery at Plain City.

Mrs. Cora Cochran, wife of Wallace Cochran a daughter of Alfred McCampbell died at her home north of Unionville May 1, 1892. Funeral services at M. P. Church by Rev. E. E.Cleland.

Mrs. Abraham Morford died At Columbus asylum last week. Funeral service at Presbyterian Church, Plain City by Rev. T. B. Atkins, remains placed in New California cemetery.

Peoria On Wednesday the church bell tolled the mournful tidings that Mrs. Almira Brake of Summersville had passed away. The funeral was at the church, Rev. Williams officiating.

Saturday morning the bell tolled the death of Grandmother Jarvis. Sabbath morning the bell again tolled, this time over the death of Joseph Anthony.

May 25, 1892 p4cé6 Alpheus Turner was born in Clark county Sept. 5, 1831 and died May 22, 1892 age 60 years, 8 months, 17 days. His parents moved to Marysville when he was quite young. He leaves a brother, one sister.

James Tuttle was born in the State of New Hampshire January 2, 1812 and died May 19, 1892 aged 80 years, 4 months and 17 days. Mr. Tuttle was married to Miss Angeline Disbennett at the age of 25. She died June 1866. To this union were born 12 children, 4 sons and 8 daughters, ten of which survive him.

p5c5 Mary Durelle Thompson, daughter of Alvan & Ella P. Thompson died May 21, 1892 at the home of her aunt, Mrs. William Cratty. She was aged 18 years, 11 months and 10 days. her death came from brain trouble, supposed to have been caused by a fall at East school building two years ago She was a graduate of the class of 1890.

June 8, 1892 p5c2 Davie Hopkins, an old and respected colored man of Milford Center died Saturday. The deceased came from the south during the war.

c5 Sadie Longbrake died Wednesday. She leaves a mother. She was forty years of age and the cause of death was peritonitis. Funeral services were held by Rev. James |. Rogers.

The remains of Mrs. Frank Pierce who died Wednesday were taken to Johnstown, Licking County for burial. Mrs. Zella Sennette, sister of Mrs. Pearse left for her home in Granville.

p8c1 Amrine. O. W. Reed and wife attended the funeral of their cousin, Miss Imo Reed of Plain City. Blues Acadamy. Lonzo Reed and wife were called to Plain City to attend the funeral of his niece. p8c2 New Dover. Mrs.T. E. Bowen was called to Delaware on account of the sickness of her daughter Mrs. Ada Burns.

June 15, 1892 Pioneer Association. Deaths of pioneers were reported as follows: Perry Douglass, Zachariah Noteman, Levi Taylor, Harvey McKitrick, John F. Sabin, P. B. Cole, John B. Coons. p8c4 Obit. Mrs. Phela Gray aged 68 years, and mother of James Guitner died at her home near Plain City May 31. Interment at Plain City.

June 22, 1892 pici Albert Herd, wife and daughter, J. M. Winter, and Caroline Cartmell of Indiana were called here to attend the funeral of their brother Dora Winter who ended his life by taking rough p4c6 Obit Howard, Helen M. daughter of Eben and Mary A. Hathaway was born May 1840, died June 1, 1892, aged 52 years and 14 days. She was the third child of a family of eight- five daughters and three sons- of whom all except one brother survive her. She was married to Nathan Howard September 21, 1850. They have been blessed with four children, one daughter and three sons- also two grand children in Kansas.

p4. Leonidas D. Turner was born June 5, 1864 and died at Wheeling West Virginia June 18, 1892, aged 18 years and 13 days. On the 29th of April 1890, he was married to Miss Katie Everson. of Hartwell, Ohio. His business was that of a photographer and the past two years he lived in Dayton. Six weeks ago he accepted a position at Wheeling, West Virginia.

cc Miss Rosa Mather died Monday.she was the eldest daughter of Aaron Mather who died six weeks ago. the funeral was conducted by Rev. W. G. Waters c2 The sad news of the death of little Sloan Wharton, one of the twin children of C. E. Wharton, the jeweler of this place, which occurred at Alliance. Mrs. Wharton and the children had been with her husband who manages the Silver Art Institute there for some time when the little boy was taken with scarlet fever which resulted in his death. He was four years of age.

c3 Miss Linda B. King died June 24. She was born February 2, 1863. She was 29 years, 4 months and 22 days old. Funeral services by Rev. G. W. Waters, under auspices of the Pythian Sisterhood. p8c2 Amrine. the funeral of Malen Burris's little daughter took place Sunday at Mt. Zion. Blues Academy. Her remains were deposited at Oakdale.

July 6, 1892p1 c5 Mrs. Louisa L. Converse was born June 21, 1815 and died October 8, on the anniversary of her birth. Her five surviving sons, Nathan W., Obil B., Orson,P., J. Quin and B. W. Converse and two daughters, Mrs.S. C. Mitchell and Mrs. Elon Smith met at the residence of their father C. H. Converse at Unionville for a family visit. Mr. Converse is in his eighty second year. p5c4 Picture of Mrs. Beriah Wilkins. Mrs. Wilkins is now and has been for the last eight or nine years a resident of Washington City. Recently she was appointed one of the nine lady Vice Presidents constituting the board of managers of the World's fair and her duties will mainly be confined to looking after the exhibits to be made by the District of Columbia. She was born and raised in Union County and is a sister of Hon J. W. and A. B. Robinson. Her father, John W. Robinson and her mother, a daughter of Judge Mitchell were early settlers on Darby creek in this county. They raised a large family of which Mrs. Wilkins is the youngest. She received her collegiate course at Dr. Boger's female seminary at Springfield.

Death of Robert Sharp. Robert Sharp was many years a citizen of Union County. He held offices in the county deputy sheriff and county infirmary superintendent/ From Osage County Chronicle. "Robert Sharp died June 18 at the age of 81 years. He leaves a wife and five children. Mr. Sharp was born in Ross County, Ohio, September 24, 1810. He was deputy sheriff four years and then elected two terms to the office of sheriff in Union County, Ohio. He came to Burlingame in 1882 and was in the mercantile business with his son Charles till 1885.

July 15, 1892 Blues Academy p1c1 Miss Samantha Jarvis died July 6, aged twenty-nine years and two days of lung trouble. Her father, one brother and two sisters survive her, there being at one time nine brothers and sisters. Bluescreek. Mrs. Cassius Marvis, formerly of Bluescreek mills died July 3, 1892 and was buried at Mulberry cemetery. She was 48 years, 8 months and 23 days.

Blues Academy. Charles Martin died July 13 of typhoid fever and pneumonia. His daughter Lula, twelve followed him July 16 of the same disease.

Little Charles Sloan, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Wharton died of scarlet fever June 26, 1892 aged 4 years, 3 months. The funeral services were conducted at the house by Rev. Brynly, after which the remains were laid to rest in the Sloan cemetery, south of Yelverton.

Charles W. Martin was born in Marshal County, West Virginia, November 22, 1851 and died July 13, 1892 aged 40 years, 7 months and 21 days. He settled with his parents in Union County in October 1860 he married Miss Irene E. Higgins November 1873 and to them were born four daughters, one of which preceded him to a better land. He leaves a wife, three daughters, a mother, one brother, two sisters.

July 27, 1892 pic1 Mrs. Catharine Staley died at the home of her son-in-law Alpheus Wood at the age of 92 years, 2 months and 14 days. Funeral services at Amrine cemetery. Also p1c1 p5c3 Charles E. Henderson died Tuesday at the age of thirty-two years. His wife is widowed at twenty-three. She will return to her former home at Tonawanda, New York. He was of the family of the late James A. Henderson which consisted of two sons and two daughters, but one Mr. O. W. Henderson, of Columbus is now living.

p5c4 Ex Commissioner Luther Liggett died at his home in Millcreek Township Tuesday. A cancerous tumor was the immediate cause of death. Mr. Liggett was born in Millcreek township Oct. 11, 1836 and was nearly 56 years old. He served one term as commissioner of the county, was a member of the board of agriculture a number of years and served as trustee, clerk, and treasurer of Millcreek Township. This branch of the family were originally Virginians, who emigrated to Ross County in 1810 and in 1918 moved to Delaware County. Luther was the son of Absalom Liggett, and the oldest of ten children.

Frank Cluggage died at Atchinson, Kansas, Monday. He died of heart trouble. The funeral will take place at the residence of his sister, Mrs. Jerry Miller. Buried Oakdale Cem . Mr. Cluggage was born in Pennsylvania and with his father moved to Union County and though he had not been a resident here since young manhood, he considered this his home.

Mrs. Sarah J. Botkin, wife of Isaac C. Botkin died Monday of paralysis. Mrs. Botkin was a sister of Capt. W. J. Robb and was one of a family of three children whose father emigrated from Kentucky in 1842 and settled in Liberty Township. Rev. W. M. Haines will officiate at the funeral services, the remains will be taken to Oakdale Cem for burial.

c6 Obit. Catharine Hall was born in Pennsylvania May 8, 1900. She moved with her parents to Perry County, Ohio in 1808, thence to Greene County 1877. She was married to Daniel Staley in 1822. There was born to them four children, one son and three daughters. Her husband died April 17, 1828. She was afterward married to Samuel Staley in 1830. This union was blessed with four children, two sons and two daughters, making eight in all, all of whom are living, the youngest being in her 53rd year. They moved to Union County in 1833. Her last husband died December 23, 1880. She departed this life July 20, 1892, aged 92 years, 2 months, 14 days. Funeral at Amrine church July 22.

August 17, 1892 p5c2 Mrs. Harriet C. Lee, wife of William Lee, died Sunday. p5c4 Died August 13, 1892, Mrs. Harriet C. Vanbuskirk Lee, wife of William Lee, in the seventy-fifth year. Her ancestry on her father's side was Holland Dutch, on her mother's, New England Puritan.

Her childhood was spent at Troy, NY where she was educated in the Troy Female Seminary, graduating at eighteen. After her graduation she remained for two years as a teacher in that institution. She was married in August 1837, removed to Cincinnati in 1850, to Marysville 1857 where they were members of the Presbyterian or Congregational Church. She was influential in her Church relation.

p8c2 Mrs. Freshwater died at Larue Sunday from an operation for a tumor or cancer of the stomach. c4 Calvin L. Horr was born in Jefferson County, New York November 6, 1829, departed this life July 29, 1892, aged 62 years, 8 months, 23 days.

At the time of the breaking out of the Civil War, he enlisted in Michigan August 30, 1862. He was discharged July 21, 1863 at New Orleans. He was married three times. He had three children by his second wife. He was last married to Mary Jane Stratton February 26, 1877 who with three children survive him. During the latter part of his life he has been a resident of York township.

p6c3 Unionville Adam Brown departed this life August 18, by consumption at the age of 18 years. He leaves a wife and little boy. Funeral services by Rev. Kyle of the Presbyterian Church, Remains interred in Mitchell Cemetery.

Pharisburg Joseph Green, a son-in-law of Jonathan Phips buried a child at Bethlehem the 28th. William Ports and family attended the funeral of his mother at Bethlehem, Aug. 18.

September 7, 1891 No 6 b5c4 Samuel Lackey Reed died September 2 at the residence of his son Dyer Reed. Funeral services by Rev. Ferguson. Mr. Reed was born in Darby township Union County September 17,1822. He was united in marriage March 6, 1845 to Miss Margaret Boals who preceded him to the better land about fourteen months ago. To them were born nine children- four sons and five daughters, eight of whom were present at the funeral service. One son died in infancy. p8c1 Fountain Park. Mrs. Elizabeth Hess died Saturday.

New Dover. Mrs. Sarah Hamilton who has been living with her son, J. N. Vinning died August 31 in her 82nd year. Funeral services at Watkins M. E. church, her remains interred in Buxton Cemetery.

p5c3 J. W. Cross opened his school at Ostrander Monday of this week, and the attendance eclipses any thing yet in the history of the school. Mr. Cross has very equal as a superintendent and the increasing attendance each year attests the appreciation of people of that vicinity have for the good schools built up by the Professor. The Board of Education has also displayed great wisdom in hiring Mr. Cross for three years at a salary equaled by few towns of twice the population of the village of Ostrander.

p5c3 Mrs. Hervey removed to the county with her family thirty-three years ago. She was fifty-eight years old and a member of the Baptist church.

p5c6 Obit Nancy Beightler was born in Warren county September 23, 1823 died September 9, 1892, aged 58 years, 11 months, 26 days. She moved with her parents to Adams County, Ohio where she was united in marriage to Ezekiel Edgington in her sixteenth year. After her marriage they moved to Union County and after a brief stay, moved back to Adams County. After a short time they returned to this county until the death of Mr. Edgington in the latter part of 1861. She was the mother of seven children by Mr. Edgington five of whom are deceased. She was married to Tobias Beightler in 1862. She is the mother of two children by Mr. Beightler, one of whom still lives. Three children, three brothers and one sister are left to mourn her loss.

Dorcas Burnham Linehan died September 13. She was twenty nine years, lacking one day. She was the only daughter of Ralph and Martha Burnham. She was married to William Linehan January 29, 1885. They have been blessed with one son.

Mary Emma Spain was born Paris Township, Union County October 30, 1863, died September 13, 1892, aged 28 years, 11 months, 13 days. She has been afflicted since she was eighteen months of age.

September 28, 1892 p5c4 David Thomas, Dover Township committed suicide. He was a son of Timothy Thomas, age about 35 years and leaves a wife and four children.

c4 Mrs. Saray J., wife of David Sharrar died Tuesday aged 59 years, 1 month and 7 days. Mrs. Sharrar was born in Baltimore, Maryland August 22, 1833, was married May 8, 1856 and moved to Marysville in 1868. She leaves a husband and three sons. She was a member of the M.E. church. Oakdale Cem.

p8c2 Plain City. Miss Effie, daughter of T. |. Taylor died of peritonitis Saturday. She was a great worker in the Sunday school and Christian Endeavor Society. She was taken to Kingscreek near Urbana for burial.

p5c3 William W. Judy, son of Amaziah Judy killed by the cars. He was a brakeman on the St. Louis and San Francisco railroad. He fell from the train. This is the second son of Mr. Judy that has been killed in less than five years. The young man's wife was just starting to St. Louis to join her husband when the sad news of his death came. p5c5 William M. Robinson died Tuesday aged 84 years 6 months and 5 days. He was born in Union County in 1808. He served one term as sheriff of Union County. At the time of his death he was President of the Union County Pioneer Assoc.

Word came Tuesday of the death of Rev. Alexander Harmount, at Delphos, Ohio. Rev. Harmount was for several years pastor of the M. E. church of Marysville.

Parthemer was born in Union County August 18, 1871, she was a member of the UB church at Mt. Zion. The deceased was married to L. D. Wheeler January 7, 1892. She leaves her husband, one son, a father and mother, three sisters and four brothers. Her death occurred October 8, aged 21 years, 1 month, 19 days. The funeral was preached by Rv. D. J. Schenck. Chandler, Esta, daughter of Ora S. & Lottie E. Chandler, was born July 1892 and died October 13, 1892 aged 3 months and 13 days.

She was twenty-three years and three days old. She graduated from our high school with high honors in 1888 The remains were taken to Garwood Cem near West Middleburg.

He was the last of a family of eleven children, all of whom lived to be eighty years or more. He had six children only three of whom are living now. Funeral at Union Christian Church. November 23, 1892 New California. David Lane, an aged farmer, died Tuesday of croup colic. The youngest child of George Bixler died of diphtheria, aged 2 years.

The deceased moved to this city from Toledo during the construction of the new court house, being employed as a stone cutter. He has remained a resident of our town ever since. He was thirty-nine years of age and left a wife and child.

Leonard Geer died Tuesday aged 75 years, 11 months, 4 days. Mr. Geer was born in Bavaria, Germany in 1816 and came to this country about 1843. In early life he became crippled by falling from a hay rack, which arrested his growth. He leaves a wife and six children, two sons and four daughters.

pid5 Ostrander Robert McMillen, Sr. died this morning. He would have been 99 on Christmas. Plain City. The funeral of Mrs. Jessie Haynes Horn took place December 1. Rev. T. B. Atkins officiating.

Byhalia. Thursday, death again visited the home of L. M. Lingrel and took the youngest child, Ada, who died from membranous croup. This makes two deaths in the family within ten days.

On the same day Jasper Woodland lost his oldest boy Lutie, who died from the effects of throat trouble. He was about nine. On the same dau, Mr. Orahood who was making his home with his daughter, Mrs. Michael Wygle, passed away. He was about eighty years of age.

Peoria. The church bell told the tidings that Miss Cora Stickney had departed this life, aged 19 years. Funeral services conducted by Rev.Hemphill at the M. E. Church at Newton, Friday.

Dec. 6, 1892 Died from heart failure, Mrs. Hattie Cherrington, aged 44 years. The deceased was the wife of T. J. Cherrington. She leaves two children, Winnie and North. Two of her sisters live in Kingston, O. and her parents and a brother are residents of Logan, O. She was married to Mr. Cherrington in Logan O. and since 1886 they have made their home in Salem.

p4c5 William Crowder was born March 3, 1823 and died December 18, 1892 age 69years 8 months and 18 days. In 1849, the deceased was united in marriage with Lucina Herd. Five children were born of this union, four of whom are now living, one dying in infancy. He was married the second time in March 1861 to Margaret Rea. Of this union were born six children, all of whom are living. He was married the third time August 1890 to Sarah McNeigh who still lives. He also leaves five brothers and four sisters. Funeral services at the Friends p4 c5 Cora Leona Stickney, daughter of William and Sarah Stickney was born at Allen Center March 8, 1879 and died in her home in Peoria December 7, 1892, aged 19 years, 8 months and 29 days. She leaves one brother, an aged grandmother. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Hemphill at the Newton, M. E. Church.

Broadway. J. W. Smith died at Central Asylum at Columbus on the 6th. He will be buried in York Cem. by the Masonic order. He leaves a wife and an eleven year old son.

Claibourne. Mrs. Mary Kline died January 5, aged 66 years. Funeral by Rev. Fraham. Maskill Cem. New Cal. Alfred McCampbell died January 4. Funeral at the U. P. Church by Rev. E. E. Cleland, interred in New California Cemetery. His wife has been dead several years. He has three daughters dead and two living. He was about sixty-six years of age.

Plain City Mr. George R. Elsworth died January 7 of dropsy at his son Glenn's. He was 48 and was a member of the 134th Regiment OVI in 1864. Funeral services by Rev. J. W. Henley, D.D.

p5c5 Farewell party for Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Lemay. Mr. Lemay is an ardent Prohibitionist in politics. They expect to purchase property in Bellepoint. They came from Washington CH O. twenty-nine years ago. They bought the Hanawalt farm. The farm was purchased by William Tossey.

p5c3 Agatha Elizabeth Auer wife of William Auer died of quick consumption. Mrs. Auer was born in Marysville November 20, 1868 and was 24. She was a daughter of Jacob and Anna Lush. April 9, 1891 she was united in marriage to William Auer. The union was blessed with one child, Harry Victor, now eleven weeks old. Funeral was held in Lutheran church, Rev. Wiechers officiating. Oakdale Cem.

p1c6 Unionville Died January 16, Mrs. Elizabeth Poland. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Adams, M. E. Church. She was interred at Mitchell Cem.

Woodstock. Mrs. Lucy Hewett died January 16. She was born near Woodstock September 17, 1842, was married to N. P. Hewett May 15, 1861. She was the mother of seven children, the oldest dying in infancy. She was a member of WCTU. She sang in the church choir. Funeral at Universalist church by Dr. J. W. Henley, D. D. One daughter, Mrs. Anna M. Smith lives in Kansas and could not be present.

p8c4 Charles Christopher Crowder was born Sept. 22, 1858, died Jan 10, 1893 (34y, 3 months 18 days. Was married to Mary Jane Bowersmith October 2, 1879. There were born to this union, three children, all of them boys. Funeral services by Rev/.Tryphena Morris of Morrow County.

February 1, 1893p 4c5 C.J. Olds died January 8, 1893. he was born October 3, 1809 in Westport, Essex county, New York. He was married December 12, 1882 to Mary E. Morse. In 1838 he removed to Newark where he continued to reside until 1855, when he removed to Union Station, Licking county. (n 1865, he came to Union County). May 23, 1882, he was called to mourn the loss of a beloved with of almost forty-nine years. July 5, 1883 he was married to Mary Dolman who survives him. He has left behind three children, one daughter and two sons.

James Monroe Sarver died January 25. He was born in Ross County May 18, 1856 being 38 years, 8 months, 7 days. He leaves a wife, five children- three sons and two daughters- six brothers and three sisters.

p5c1 Harriet Smith of Darby township died on the 3d inst. She was born January 7, 1835 and was married in 1872 to D. H. Smith. She leaves a father, mother, husband and seven children.

p5c2 Miss Tillie Winkler, aged thirteen, daughter of Charles Winkler, deceased died Wednesday at the home of her grandparents, J. G. Blumenshine and wife on Weaver road. Funeral at German Lutheran church. The body was taken to settlement cemetery for interment. Morey and Co. undertakers.

Florence, a twelve year old daughter of J. Leonard Geer died Thursday of Diphtheria. Her sisters Misses Lotta and Mary were summoned to her bedside.

February 15, 1893 p 1 c4 Milford. The remains of Mrs. Mae Geer Bennett were interred in Milford Cem, Saturday. p1c6 Unionville. Mrs. Hoopman died February 5, occasioned by a stroke of paralysis. She was

Woodstock. February 6, Lena Hewett died. Lena was born November 10, 1877. Funeral serves by Dr. J. W. Henley in Universalist church. The event occurred just three weeks after the death of her mother.

c2 Freeman Absolem, son of Henry and Sophia Harrington was born in Dover township July 1, 1864 and was united in marriage to Maggie Stall July 27, 1887 and died February 8, 1893 aged 28 years, 7 months and 6 daus leaving a wife, one son, a father, mother and two sisters. This is the third son taken away by death in young manhood within a few years from this family. His funeral took place at the home of his parents. Rev. W. A. Ferguson officiating.

p 5 c5 Suspicious death at Richwood. Coronor Swisher was called to Richwood to investigate the sudden death of an illegitimate child of Elnora Harris which had been found dead in bed with its mother.

p8c4 Deborah Horney was born August 25, 1811 in Ross County near Chillicothe, died January 5, 1893 at the residence of her son-in-law James W. Moore, aged 81 years, 4 months and 10 daus. She was married to Paris Horney October 16, 1836, was the mother of eleven children, five of whom survive her, two sons and three daughters. Her funeral was from the Union church, conducted by Rev. H. J. Bigley of North Lewisburg.

February 22, 1893 No 30 p5c4 Darius Buxton died Sunday in Minneapolis, Minn. He was born in Washington County, Pa. in 1825, being 68. He was twice married, his first wife having died in 1863, the second in 1889. Three children, Mrs. Frank Williams of Urichsville and J.D. & Larue Buxton of Minneapolis, Minn. survive him and were present at the funeral. Rev. March officiated at the funeral. Buxton C.

Arnold of Hinton W. Va. She was 19 years, 2m. and 21 days. Funeral services were at the home of her parents by Prof. W. H. Cole, her former teacher assisted by Rev. W. J. Hodge

March 8, 1893 No 32, Vol 44 p5c2 In a railroad smash-up on the Vandalia line, near St. Louis, February 24, Will Leeper, the fireman on the engine was so badly injured that he died Tuesday. Mr. Leeper was the younger son of James Leeper, a former citizen of Marysville.

p5c4 Enos J. Ainsworth died at his home Tuesday. Mr. Ainsworth came to Marysville in 1879. He was born in Miami County and Sept. 8 he was sixty-two. He leaves a wife and two children, also a brother and sister.

Mar. 15, p5c2 He was born in Pennsylvania and came to Union County in 1835 settling on the same farm where he died. He married Elizabeth Smith in Harrison County in 1827. Of their eight children but one daughter survives him and she was present when he died. Interment at Maskill Cem. March 15, 1893 New Calif. Mrs.George Hockenlocher died after surgery for an ovarian tumor which weighed twenty-seven pounds. Funeral Saturday at M.E. church, Jerome by Rev. Creighton. Pharisburg- The infant child of William Organ and wife died last week and was buried at Bluescreek. p5c3 Elmer Wetzel, aged sixteen shot himself. He was the son of Martin Wetzel.

In 1836 he, with his parents came to America, settling in Columbus the latter part of the same year. In the spring of 1837, he came with his parents to Union County and settled on the farm where he died. In 1841, he was united in marriage to Miss Catherine Criteline, sister of Peter Criteline of Unionville. to this union there were born ten children, seven of whom survive him. One daughter, the wife of Gottleib Eirich died at the age of thirty-four, while the oldest and youngest children died in infancy. His wife died January 30 1892.Mr. Ruppright was one of the founders of the Lutheran Church in the German settlement. Remains placed in vault at Lutheran Cemetery.

Mrs. Reed was born near New Dover, November 25, 1828. She was the oldest of a family of 8 children born to the late Jonathan and Mahala Bowen. One brother, T. E. Bowen and one sister Maria Stiner survive her. She was united in marriage to James W. Reed June 10, 1859. Of this marriage there were born nine children, four sons and five daughters. Myra A. Wilbur was born in Madison County July 2, 1815, died March 15, 1893 aged 77 years, 8 months and 13 days. She was married to Christopher Wilbur January 23, 1834, was the mother of five children- four boys and one girl. Two boys died in infancy, one son died in the army, one son George and one daughter Thursa Smith survive her. Her husband died October 13, 1869. She was a member of the ME Church. p1c8 J. Bailey Morgridge died April 10. He was the father of eight children, two sons and six daughters, all of whom survive him. He came to Ohio in 1816 and in 1820 settled on the tract of land where he died. His farm consisted of 2500 acres in a fine state of cultivation. He was identified with Madison County. Internment in new cemetery in Darby Tp.

Clark County, Ohio in 1816 and after his marriage he removed to Marysville where he engaged in the furniture business. He moved to Illinois in 1857.

p8c4 James Townsend was born in Harrison county May 31, 1830 died March 31, 1893. He came to Champaign County in 1850 and in October was united in marriage with Miss Hannah Hall. To them three sons and one daughter were born. He followed his trade as a carpenter. In religious faith he was a Universalist.

April 19, 1893 pic5 Pharisburg- Mrs. Ports died Monday. She leaves a husband and four daughters. Raymonds. John Wilson died last week. He leaves a wife and eight children. His funeral was at the Christian Church of which he was a member and faithful worker.

p5c4 The sad intelligence of the death of Mrs. M. C. Walker reached our city last week. Miss Jennie was a teacher in our schools. Last fall she went to Denver, Colorado to join Miss Jennie who had accepted a position as teacher in that city.

p5c4 Death of Mrs. Flora Lucina Spain, wife of Harlow H. Spain died in Columbus. She was the daughter of our former citizen Reuben Partridge and lived in this city many years. The funeral was held at the residence of her sister, Mrs. Howard Vosburg. She was born October 1855 and was in her 38th year.

Ostrander Commencement. The school has reached a high degree of efficiency under the management of J. W. Cross. The three graduates: Floran Perkins, Daisy Ferris and May Mills will each deliver an oration and there will be an address by the Hon. Charles H. Workman.

May 3, 1893 p1c3 Black Hawk. Samuel, son of George and Etta Gregg died April 20 and was born May 1 at Ostrander. His age was four years, nine months, 10 days.

Raymonds Elder John Lyon died Friday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Harry Williams. He was born in Hew Jersey in 1818 and was 75 years, 1 month and 11 days old. He leaves one son and three daughters. His funeral was at Christian church.

p4c3 Mrs. Mary Gladden Coe departed this life April 28, 1893. She was born in Jefferson County, January 18, 1804. Her age was 89 years, 3 months and 10 days. She was married to Daniel Coe April 11, 1822. Her husband has been deceased for more than forty years. Soon after their marriage they moved to Washington county, Pennsylvania where they resided until about 1834 when the moved to Union County to the farm where she resided. Soon after her husband's death she and some of the younger children came to Marysville and made their home here for thirty years. She was the mother of twelve children, four of whom are still living- three daughters and one son: Mrs. John W. Robinson of Marysville, Mrs. Major R. R. Henderson of Minneapolis and Captain Joseph Coe now residing in New England. There are thirty-five grand children and twenty-six great grandchildren. Buried at Milford Cem. Funeral services in Presbyterian Church by Rev. William G. March.

p8c3 James R. Galloway died in Elk City, Kansas of lung fever. He was born in Genesee County, New York June 6, 1814 and died April 24, 1893. His parents moved to Ohio when he was six months old, and settled near Irwin on the farm now owned by A. A. Woodworth heirs. He was married to Harriet B. Miller September 21, 1937. He lived in Union County until 1865 when he moved to Missouri and afterwards to southern Kansas. He leaves a wife, one daughter and four sons. He was a member of Universalist Church. Two children attended him in his last illness, Hattie Domcer and S. P. Galloway.

May 10, 1893 No 41 Vol 44 p6c3 Mrs. Elizabeth Lee was born near Marysville Nov. 15, 1835 and died at Columbus May 3, 1893 making her 55 years, 5 months and 18 days. She was first married to Augustus Turner. To this union two children were born, both of whom are living. She was afterward married to Jacob C. Lee. Four children were born to them all of whom are living. Funeral at Buck Run church by Rev. H. J. Bigley. Oakdale Cem p7 John C. Price, 60, died Monday. He was born in Madison County, March 1832, the son of Henry & Eliza Corey Price, natives of Maryland and Connecticut. He moved to Marysville in 1859 and was elected Sheriff for two terms. He was a member of Co F. Thirteenth OVI. He was wounded in his left arm. After serving four years as Sheriff, he returned to farming and became engaged in stock buying. He was married in 1853 to Miss Rnuma Dawson of Champaign County. His companion and three chidren survive him, namely Effie, wife of postmaster J. C. Guthrie, Alice and Durell, all residents of this place. Oakdale Cem. Rev. Ferguson will officiate at the funeral.

Death of J. L. Boerger, Sr. died May 4, 1893 at the home of his son-in-law L. C. Conrad. His ailment was Bright's disease. Mr. Boerger was born at Willimasdorf Bavaria, Germany May 17, 1827 and in 1843 with his parents John W. & Elizabeth (Sheere) Boerger emigrated to the United States and settled in Columbus in which city they resided till 1858 when they moved to Union County. The deceased was the oldest child and was raised and educated in Germany. When he began doing for himself, he resided six years in Crawford county and then moved to Darby Township where he bought a farm and occupied it till 1872 when he purchased a homestead in Millcreek Township containing 325 acres. Mr. Boerger began in the world a poor boy, laboring for six cents a day. He made his start in Crawford county, manufacturing brick and when he came to Union County he had five thousand dollars with which he purchased the farm in Darby township, comprising over 200 acres. He was married April 7, 1850 to Mary Denteilein now deceased. of the seven children the following are living; Maggie, the wife of L. C. Conrad, John Leny and John M. all of this place and Lizzie, John K. and George A. of Salisbury, Mo. M. Boerger was sixty-five years old, a member of the Ev. Lutheran Church. Funeral at the Lutheran Church in the settlement.

May 17, 1893 No 42 p7c2 Conrad Gugel died Saturday. He was fifty-one years of age and leaves a wife, three sisters and three daughters. Funeral at Lutheran church in the Settlement.

Williams, April 19, 1893, Mr. George Gamble and Miss Cora Williams. p6c3 Raymonds. Mrs. Locky Garrett, 83, died Sunday. She lived a number of years a widow with her daughter, Cordella. She leaves five daughters and one son all of whom are living near here except one daughter in Kansas. Newton Cem.

p7c3 Dr. T. P. Shields of Millcreek township has received an appointment as a member of the Advisory Council on Farm Culture and Cereal industry of the Worlds' Fair at Chicago. The World's Agricultural Congress will convene during the week commencing October 16th and will be held under the auspices of the World's Congress Auxiliary in the Permanent Memorial Art Palace. A room has been set apart for headquarters of this Auxiliary in which Mr. Shields will gladly meet those attending the Fair at that time and endeavor to make it pleasant for them and imparting all information possible concerning this department. Should any of our readers desire letters of introduction they may secure the same by addressing as early as possible, Mr. T. P. Shields, Watkins, Union County, Ohio. This appointment falls upon a gentleman every way qualified for the position. His long and continued experience in matters of this nature places him in position to render considerable aid.

p7c4 Levi Longbrake Gilcrist son of Samuel and Elizabeth Gilcrist died Friday of last week, aged 25 years, 3 months and 5 days. He was married the 12th of june 1892 to Elizabeth Carter who survives him. Mr. Gilcrist was a graduate of Marysville HS, Class of '89. Buried Oakdale Cem.

June 7, 1892 p 3 c2 from Pittsburg Chronicle Telegraph. S. T. Turner of the composing room died. He was 46 years old and was born in Marysville Ohio in 1847. He was apprenticed on the Marysville Tribunes' office where he learned his trade. He enlisted in the First Ohio Cavalry in 1863 and served through the war. In 1870, he married Miss Lyde Hill of his native county and soon after came to Pittsburg. He worked on Chronicle Telegraph twenty-one years. He is survived by his wife, three sons and one daughter.

p7 Lafayette George Washington Evans, son of Wiley Evans at the home of his father, aged about thirteen years. His remains were taken to Taylor Township for burial.

Mrs. Ella Lee Wilkins, wife of John M. Wilkins died at her home in Richwood, aged 34 years. She was the daughter of William Lee of this place and was united in marriage with John M. Wilkins in the spring of 1883. After their marriage, they moved to Maynard, Belmont Co. where they resided about eight years. About two years ago they moved to Richwood. To them were born three children, the youngest of which died about a year ago. The surviving members of the family are the husband and two children. The deceased was buried in the Richwood cemetery beside the babe buried a year ago.

p7c4 Accident on New Railroad. Mr. Spelacy, a worker died Tuesday while excavating for a bridge abutment. The large bucket fell and killed the worker who was from Martel, Ohio.

p6 Isaac Curl - Botkin was born at Clinton County December 13, 1809. He died at Marysville June 6, 1893, aged 83 years, 5 months 22 days. The deceased came from a hardy, long-lived Scotch-Irish family intermingled with German. His grandfather and his brother came to America, according to family tradition in the ill-fated army of General Braddock. In the flight of the survivors from the disastrous battlefield near Pittsburg, these two brothers became separated from the rest and took refuge in a frontier settlement in Pennsylvania. When the American Revolution broke out, they enlisted and served through the war in the Pennsylvania line. The dates of the birth of these two brothers is unknown. One of them, Charles (the brother of the deceased was married to a German girl by the name of Curl or Karl about the year 1782. Sixteen chidren were the fruits of his marriage, one of whom, George, was born April 11, 1783 and was married October 24, 1807 to Sarah Hester who was born September 11, 1758 or this marriage fifteen children were born, of whom seven are now living. The deceased was the second child of this family. His older brother, Abraham, no2 85, is living at Mechanicsburg, O. The mother of the deceased died September 7, 1866, age 83 years. The deceased was married three times. His first wife, Ruth Dean was born December 6, 1811 and died March 14, 1843. of this marriage four children were born, two of whom are living in Kansas, the other two being dead. His second wife, Sarah Dalrymple was born March 10, 1813 and died March 12, 1850. Of this marriage three children were born and all are still living. His third wife, Susan Jane Robb was born April 9, 1818 and died August 1, 1892. Of this marriage two chidren were born and are still living. While deceased was quite young, his father moved to and settled in Clark county. There the deceased resided until December 1865, when he moved with his family to Marysville.

June 21, 1893 p5c2 James, the little son of James Quirk of Delaware, died Saturday of brain trouble, aged three months and twenty-two days. Just three weeks ago Mr. Quirk buried his wife. The remains were brought to Marysville and buried beside the mother in the Catholic cemetery.

Mrs. Kate Cooper Chambers, wife of G. B. Chambers, the barber, died Sunday of bowel trouble. The funeral took place at the AME church, Rev. Woodson, officiating. Milford Cem. Mrs. Chambers was a daughter of Joseph Cooper. She was married in 1872 and leaves seven children. She was 42.

Edwards Cranston was born Foster, R.I. Feb 10, 1805, being the youngest of six children, one daughter and five sons, children of John and Phoebe Cranston. In 1815, he, with his father's family, came to Ohio and settle on Darby Plains, he being ten years old. On November 12, 1886 he was united in marriage with Harriet Cushman, with whom he lived twelve years, when she died. To them were born three daughters, two of whom survive him- Lora E. Smith and Lucy A. McDonald. He has lived in the vicinity of Woodstock since coming to Ohio. his death occurred June 5, 1893, being 88 years, 2 months, 28 daus old. P. Cranston p3 c4 Kate E. Robbins, daughter of Maurice and Mary Lyons was born in Portage county, August 11, 1861 died June 28, 1893 aged 31 years, 10 months, 17 days. She was married to Orion Robbins February 18, 1877. She leaves her husband and six children. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Hemphill. Broadway Cem p6 Claibourne Archie, youngest son of R. H. Brannan died as an operation was being performed to remove a tumor near his left shoulder. After funeral services by Rev. T. B. Graham, his remains were interred in Maskill Cem. Also p 7 c3 p7c4 Mrs. Catharine Smart died Sunday July 16, aged 87 years, 8 months, 1 day. The father and mother of Mrs. Smart came to this country from Wales about 1800 and settled in Washington Co, Pennsylvania where five years afterwards, November 15, 1805, the deceased was born. In 1810 the family moved to Ohio and settled in Delaware county, where they reared a family of twelve children, of which the deceased was the last survivor. The family was broken up by marriage and removed about 1834, since which time the deceased has made her home mainly with her daughter Mrs. Isabel Hawkins. Funeral services were held with Rev. Ferguson, her pastor, officiating. Her remains were then conveyed to Millcreek Cemetery, near the old homestead in Concord township, Delaware County for burial.

p7c2 Dr. T. P. Shields and son of Watkins, accompanied by a friend N. B. Burrow of Arkansas, made a friendly call at the Treasurer's office Tuesday and we had a hearty laugh over one of the doctor's good natured jokes at the Treasurer's expense. The Dr. is always a welcome caller, and glad to have his friends attend him.

Mr. and Mrs. G. |. Sellers received word last week from Washington DC that their grandchild Howard Lewis Smalley, youngest child of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Smalley, had died July 20 of dysentery. Its age was three months and ten days. The funeral was on Friday; burial took place in Glenwood cemetery, near Washington

August 2, 1893 Vol 45 No 1. p 3 Ade Amanda, daughter of N. & M. Brooks and wife of Wm. Tobey was born in new York State February 12, 1810 and died at the home of her son at York, Ohio July 19, 1893, 83 years, 3 months, 7 days. May 10, 1827 she married Mr. Tobey who preceded her to the better land seven years ago last February. To this union there were born five children. Two of them, Dr. H. A. Tobey of Toledo and J. A. Tobey of York,O. survive them. She was a member of the U. B. Church.

Mrs. Sallie L. Steinmetz died July 30, 1893, aged 34 years, 8 months, 17 days. She was the daughter of Franklin Justice and was born in Washington County, Md. In 1859 the family moved to

Mechanicsburg where they resided eighteen months and then to Marysville. The deceased was married November 13, 1879 to Geo. H. Steinmetz. This union was blessed with two children, Edna J. and Franklin C., 12 and 11 years, who survive their mother. But three of the six members of Mrs. Justice's family are left, himself, one son and one daughter. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Bugby of the Cong. Church, of which the family were members. Oakdale Cem.

August 9, 1893 No 2, Vol 45. p 6 c4 Mr. Nicholas Amrine son of Josiah and Elizabeth Amrine was born November 14, 1853 and died at Columbus August 1, 1893, aged 39 years, 8 months and 17 days. He leaves an aged mother, five brothers and three sisters.

c5 Cornelius Walker Gordon, infant son of Ira and Ida Gordon, of Washington D.C. died Aug. 19, 1893 aged 10 months and 1 day. Mrs. Gordon, with little Walker has spent the summer with her mother Mrs. Jane Torrence.

Mrs. Elizabeth Southard, aged mother of Dr. J. Q. Southard died Licking county August 21, 1893. She was eighty-seven. Funeral will be attended by Dr. Southard and wife, Mrs. Louis F. Blue and Mrs. Charles Southard of this city.

c6 Mrs. Dorothy Dipple, relict of John George Dipple died Friday at the home of her son-in-law Mr. Volrath at the age of 82 years, 7 months, 28 days. The deceased was born in 1810 at Cassdorf, Germany. In 1837, she joined heart and soul with J. G. Dipple who preceded her to the better world about three years ago. Funeral, Rev. H. C. Weichers officiating. There remain to mourn her loss two daughters, six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

p6c2New Dover. Trella Homer Eiller, infant son of Lewis and Mary _ Filler was born March 31, 1893, died August 18, 1893 aged 4 months and 17 days.

c3 Pharisburg. A number of persons from this vicinity attended the funeral of William W. Jolliff at Claibourne last Sunday. Mr. Jolliff was born in Union County but for the last twenty years he has been a resident of Trenton, Missouri. Most of the time he was in the employ of a railroad company as conductor. His remains were accompanied back by his wife, mother, and brother.

p7c3 Mrs. George Butler a former resident of Union County died at her home at Rush Center, Rush county Kansas, August 16, 1893 aged 61 years and 3 days. The family moved to Kansas in 1873.

Aug. 30 No 5. p3c1 Miss Sallie M. Southard of Ann Arbor, Michigan died Saturday aged nineteen years. Miss Southard was born at West Mansfield. From there he parents moved five years ago to Ann Arbor. Buried West Mansfield Cemetery.

p6 c3 Pharisburg. Word has been received of the death of John B. Wells of Eldorado, Ks. Mr. Wells was an old settler of Leesburg Township. He was a soldier in the late rebellion and died from the effects of a wound he received at Shiloh.

p7c2 Byron Eldridge who has been in the employ of Richard Ousler doing carpenter work, died Wednesday of typhoid fever. He was 33 and leaves a young wife. Taken to North Lewisburg for internment.

September 6, 1893 No 6 p3c2 Dr. Isaac N. Hamilton died Sunday aged 65 years, 2 months, 9 days. Dr. Hamilton was born in Muskingum county June 28, 1828. He was the seventh son of the late Wm. Hamilton and his mother was the second wife of his father, Miss Lydia Springer. At the age of 22, he entered upon a course of study at Starling Medical college of Columbus, and began practicing his profession at Amity, Madison county. Two years later he moved to Unionville. In 1862 he returned to the college for graduation, and continued his profession at Unionville for some time when he moved to Illinois and remained there several years. Later on he returned to Ohio and located at

Marysville where he has since resided. He was married in 1850 to Miss Margaret Cramer and to this union were born six children, two of whom survive. The wife preceded him to the better land the past summer. to the ten children comprising his father's family, including the two wives, but four are now living. All of the second wife's children, namely, Dr. John of Columbus, Rev. Joseph, minister in the W P. Ch at Mt. Vernon, Horatio C. and George B. of Richwood. Funeral services were held at the residence,Rev. W. Hodge of the MEW church officiating. Oakdale Cem.

p5 Emily Bronson, nee Bland, formerly of Union County, died at Indianapolis September 4, 1893 and was brought to Milford Center for burial. Mrs. Bronson was a sister of Mrs. P. Cranston.

September 13 no 7. p2c3 David Sheneman died Taylor Township September 7, 1893 aged 69 years, 2 months 13, days. The deceased was born in Coschocton county June 13, 1824 and was the son of Henry & Julia Sheneman who were natives of Pennsylvania. His father came to the wilderness of Ohio in 1866 and three years later was married and resided for some years in Holmes county where the wife died and afterwards the father moved to Miami county where he died in 1865. David, a son was married April 18, 1852 to Elizabeth Mackling and shortly after moved to Taylor township. To them were born five children, two sons and three daughters, all of whom were present at the funeral. He served the township for some years as Justice of the Peace and Trustee. He was a member of the Christian church. He was Bluescreek correspondent to the Tribune. Funeral services at Bluescreek Christian church were he was a member. Buried in neighborhood cemetery on Richwood pike about midway between Christian and Congregational churches.

Marion J. Fuller died of peritonitis at the home of her sister, Mrs. J. Van Pearse, September 7, 1893 aged 58 years, 3 months, 3 days. She came to Ohio with her parents when only four years old who settled at Wooster. She attended Rev. McKee's Female Seminary. Later she attended Willoughby University near Cleveland. She began teaching when she was sixteen. She taught a number of years at Lancaster. While a resident at Lancaster she united with the Episcopal Church. She, with her mother, moved to Marysville in 1866 where she resided until her death- 27 years. Funeral service by Rev. Dr. March. Oakdale Cem.

Olivia Charlton Fergueson dau Rev. W. A. & Francis Olivia Fergueson died September 6, 1893, 18 years and 18 days. She was born at Daretown, New Jersey August 19, 1875 and came to Marysville when her father was called to the pastorate of the Presbyterian church.She graduated from Marysville HS 1892 with honors. In the autumn of 1892 she entered central College Academy and prepared herself for the sophomore class at Wooster where to was her purpose to enter this fall. The funeral services were held at the family residence, conducted by Rev. W. G. March assister by Rev. Hodges and Bugbey and Professor Cole. Oakdale Cem.

p6 Miss Cora Willis, Mrs. Estelle Stonebreaker, and Mrs. Etta Livingstone were here for the burial of their aunt, Mrs. Lillian Brooks. Mrs. Lilli, wife of George Brooks died at her home in Brookfield, Missouri. She leaves three children.

September 20 No 8 In memoriam. Departed this life September 6, 1893 Olivia Charlton Ferguson. She was the third child or Rev. W. A. & Mar. Frances Olivia Ferguson.

Obit. Mrs. Lillie E, wife of George L. Brooks daughter of John and Caroline Yarrington died in Brookville Mo. June 10, 1881. She leaves a husband, three children, father, mother, one brother and two sisters.

Emily Bland was born in Wyandot County, Ohio January 30, 1835, being the seventh of a family of twelve children of Saul and Abigail Bland. While a small girl she moved with the family to Champaign county. August 30, 1855, she married Alson Bronson continuing to live around Woodstock and Milford where were born to them two sons, Scott A. and Fred A. Seven or eight years ago the family moved to Indianapolis, Ind. where the husband and father died October 15, 1892 and where Emily died September 4, 1893, aged 58 years, 7 months, 4 days leaving two sons, three brothers and five sisters. Funeral in Milford conducted by Rev. Adams.

September 27, 1893 No 9 p3 Mrs. Nettie Martin, nee Vaughn(colored) died of consumption in Chicago Thursday. She was the last of five bright daughters all of whom had preceded her with the same fatal disease. She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Vaughn, highly respected citizens of this place, born August 10, 1866. She was married January 1892 to Mr. Eugene Martin. As a result of this union one child was born which is now three months old. Mrs. Martin graduated Marysville HS with honor in 1885. Of eight children but two are living, Henry Vaughn and Benjamin whose home in Chicago. Funeral services at AME church by Rev. Wm. G. March. Mrs. B. E. Perfect died in Chicago Thursday following surgery. Her death is a sad blow to the husband and children, aged respectively eleven, eight, six and two. Her maiden name was Ella V. Peck and she resided in Sunbury where on April 21, 1881 she was married to Mr. Perfect. Funeral at home of Mr. Perfect's parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. D. Perfect and were conducted by Rev. Hiram Crottinger and wife were called to North Washington, Hardin county by a telegram announcing the death of Mrs. Crottinger's sister, the oldest daughter of James and Sarah Jane Woodburn.

Peoria S. A. Sterling and wife attended the funeral of Elisha Outland at Marmon Valley Church Logan County. They were guests of Bennett Outland.

p7c2 George Winder who died last week at the Central Insane Asylum was brought to this city and the remains were taken to N. Lewisburg for internment.

p7c4 Mrs. Mary J. Robinson was born in Union County June 28, 1836 and died October 6, 1893 aged 57 years, 3 months and 32 days. Her parents, John and Drusilla Cassil were early pioneers of the county and lived on the Big Derby where their second daughter came. J. W. Robinson and she were united in marriage by rev. J. W. Drake February 8, 1855 at which ceremony three other couples were joined in holy wedlock. To his marriage two children were born, the elder a son, Arthur died at sixteen years of age and the other Alice B. survives. She united with the Presbyterian Church ten years ago. She was elected treasurer of the Women's Foreign Missionary Society of the Presbytery of Marion.

John Conrad Kriechbaum died Monday at the residence of his son Adam Kriechbaum, aged 72. he was born at Laudenau, Germany in 1821 and emigrated to this country about forty-five years ago. Besides an aged sister, he leaves four children, three sons and one daughter and seven grandchildren.

Oct 18, 1893 p3c3 John N. Rathbun died Friday aged 61 years, 9 months and 16 days. He was born in Darby Township January 3, 1832 and was the eldest of seven living children. Prior to the war he was engaged more or less in mercantile business in Marysville. In October 1861, he enlisted in company F. 66th Ohio infantry and served his country faithfully to near the close of the war. He was mustered out at Atlanta Ga. Oct. 7, 1864 (Description of battles in which he took part)

He was married July 5, 1853 to Miss Elizabeth Turner who died December 25, 1879 leaving no issue. He subsequently married Miss Mary Cranston of Allen Township. Two sons are the issue of this last marriage.

Howard J. Baldwin, son of George S. & Mary Baldwin died Monday of typhoid. Funeral serves will be held with Rev. Hodges officiating. Oakdale Cem Mrs. Estelle May Sellers, wife of James Sellers of Columbus died Saturday after an operation. Funeral was held in Presbyterian Church with Rev. Ferguson. He death renders two little children motherless. She was born in Kosciusko County, Indiana and at her death was 29 years, 2 months and 6 days. Mr. and Mrs. Sellers were married seven years ago and since then they resided mostly in Milford Centre, but for the past year have lived in Columbus. c4 Double wedding at Watkins. Washington, Ohio September 21, 1893 aged 45 years, 5 months and 8 days She was married to Chester Farnum March 12, 1867. Funeral of John Sheehy at N. Lewisburg. Mr. Sheehy was 73 years old and was one of the pioneer citizens of Champaign county. c2 John R. McDowell, one of the pioneer citizens of Jerome township passed away a few days ago.

Hastings. c4 Little Dana, the four year old son of Mr. and Mrs. M. L. Walker died Friday at the home of his uncle John Maddex. Malignant diphtheria.

John Reed died Friday at the age of 86 years. He was born in Union Township and lived there all his life except two years he recently spent in Columbus. His death occurred at the home of his son Alex Reed. Funeral in Presbyterian Church Milford Centre, Rev. Wm. G. March officiating. Samuel Wood Cemetery on Big Darby.

p4 Mrs. Catherine Mary McCrea McNeil died in York township Friday aged 80 years, 3 months 22 days. She was born in Ballston Spa, New York July 5, 1812 and was a descendant of the McCrea and Beekman families. Her great uncle, Col. John McCrea was an officer of the Revolutionary Army and her father, Judge James McCrea was among the early and prominent settlers of Union County. The ill fated Jane McCrea, massacred by the Indians near Saratoga, NY was her great aunt. Mrs. McNeil resided several years prior to her first marriage in Columbus where she and her brother James McCrea, conducted one of the first "select" (subscription) schools of seminaries. On November 12, 1840 she was married to Hon. John Patterson, then United States Marshal of Ohio who died February 1859 at her late residence in York township. At the death of General Patterson she continued to reside with her son Charles at the old McCrea homestead, but in June 1862, she was married to Andrew McNeil. Esq. a prominent citizen of Union County, for two terms county Auditor and two terms county commissioner. Her son was soon after killed at the battle of Stone River and on the anniversary of that battle, December 31, 1889, her second husband also died. She has since resided with her son Samuel A. McNeil. Her funeral Sunday by Rev. N, A. Shedd and William G. March.

p3c6 Died at the home of his son Alexander Reed, Mr. Josiah Reed age 86 years, 5 months, 17 days. He was married to Jane Anderson December 18, 1835 and lived together fifty-three years until her death. To them were born nine children, eight of whom are living- seven sons and one daughter. Four of these sons were Union soldiers.

p7 Little Jean McDowell, the five year old daughter of Edward and Mary Coe McDowell, our missionaries at Amadia, Turkey died on the 14th of September. She was born at Oroomeah, Persia and died at Amadia, Turkey about a hundred miles from the place of her birth.

Gamble Shields, who will be the agent for the T & O C railroad at this point, will move this week from Madisonville, near Cincinnati to Marysville. Mr. and Mrs. Shields are natives of this county, he is a son of Dr. T. P. Shields and she a daughter of Mrs. Luther Liggett.

Nov. 8, 1893 No 15 p5c5 Word was receive here last week of the sudden death at Marion, Ohio of William C. Parnett a former citizen of this place. He was 59 years, 9 months and 15 days. He was a charter member of Marysville Lodge K of P

November 15, 1893 no 16 p1c3 Watkins. Died of consumption November 7, Mrs. John Hinton. She leaves a husband and one little daughter. Remains were placed in vault at Ostrander.

p5c3 William Gibson, an old pioneer of Marysville died Tuesday. He was born in 1818 in Greenbrier County, W. Virginia and came to Union County in 1839. He leaves a wife and four children.

November 22, 1893 p4c4 Ex-Sheriff J. J. Miller formerly of this county died at his home at Judsonia, Arkansas November 9 and the age of 63 years. He was born at the Charles Miller homestead in York township November 19, 1830 and received a common school education in district no 4 in the same township. He afterward attended Otterbein University at Westerville. In 1854 he was united in marriage with Miss Nancy Cahill eldest daughter of John E. Cahill of Claibourne Township

In 1856 he moved his family to Plattsburg, Missouri where he resided until the pro slavery element informed him that his presence there was not desirable nor acceptable to them and he was compelled to return with his family in 1860. August 1, 1861 he enlisted in the war. He was mustered out with the company at the close of the war July 20, 1865. In 1876 he was elected sheriff of Union County and re-rlected in 1878. In 1886 he moved with his family to Arkansas. He was a member of the Masonic fraternity; Mr. Miller leaves a wife and eight children, five boys and three girls.

November 29, 1893 No 18 Broadway The funeral of Azuba Case was Sunday conducted by Rev. Hemphill. She was 84 and moved to this county in 1857. Broadway Cem. Among the relatives from afar who attended the funeral were Mrs. Yonkin of Marysville, Jessie Dillon of Cincinnati; Miss Blanch Dillon of Marysville, daughter, granddaughter and great granddaughter of the deceased.; also her daughter Lucinda of Delaware and Mrs. Joglin of Logan County. William Case of Madison county and A. O. Foote and wife of Columbus.

Your correspondent attended the funeral of Moses Devore at the home of Ezra Tallman Sunday. He was 82. Rev. Bigley preached the discourse. He was buried by the Masonic order.
