General Statement: L- Architectural character: The Jonathan Collins House is a one-and-a-half-story Cape Cod "house-and-a-half" with a west ell. It is wooden, covered with wooden shingles and faces north, although it may have originally faced south, 2. Condition of fabric: Excellent. B. Description of Exterior: 1. Over-all dimensions: Rectangular, 26' x Cape Cod one-and-a-half stories, with a west ell. 2. Foundations: Brick. 3. Wall construction: The walls are plank with exterior wooden shingles and interior plaster. The frame is post and beam. h. Openings: a.

Doorways and doors: The house has a main front door to the north, one to the south and one to the north wall of the west ell. They have six panels and four-light transoms. b. Windows: The windows are nine-over-six-light double-hung sash. Some are original, and some have been reconstructed. c. Shutters: Wooden shutters are on the exterior. 5- Roof: a. Shape and covering: The gable roof has wooden shingles and overhanging ends. b. Cornice: Simple box wooden cornice, c. End trusses: The end trusses appear to be hewn. Chimneys: Two center chimneys, one over the center of the main structure and one at the vest end of its vest ell. C. Description of Interior: 1. Floor plan: a.

Basement: Under the west ell there is a basement and a garage. Under the east half of the house there is a circular stone Cape Cod cellar. b. First floor: The first floor of the main "building has two small bedrooms, a large living room and a "bath. The west ell has a modern dining room. The kitchen and sun porch are in the west ell. c. Second floor: The second floor has two modern bedrooms and a bath. 2. Flooring: There is modern wooden flooring throughout the house except in the second floor west bedroom, where the original random width planks are exposed. 3- Wall and ceiling: The walls and ceilings are plastered. a. Wainscoting, modeled after an original sample found in the house is in all of the main rooms and rises to chair rail height. b.

Moldings: There are cornice moldings modeled after samples of the original work remaining in the house. h. Stairways: There is one stairway from the center north door to the center of the second floor. 5. Trim: The trim is painted wood, reconstructed to be typical of Cape Coc All of the mantels are reconstructed. 6. Hardware: The doors all have iron lift latches. 7. Lighting: The house has modern electric lamps. 3. Heating: There is central heating, and all of the fireplaces are open. Site: The house faces the north, with one small fence to the east.
