This house is significant as an early example of Italianate style working class residential housing stock in the city. It retains its basic form and is distinguished by its bracketed cornice, long and elegant windows and simple L-shaped plan. Description: The Dwyer House is a long narrow building that is part of a closely spaced cluster oflate century houses within the South Fountain Avenue Historic District. The frame walls rise from a low stone foundation and extend up above the second floor. The building has a simple low-pitched hipped roof on its front porch, set in the angle formed by the front and side wings. It has a newer masonry floor and metal porch columns replace original wood columns. Windows are symmetrically arranged on the exterior and have one-over-one wood sash.

The exterior is covered with aluminum siding. The most elegant feature of the house is its bracketed cornice, which extends around the front and sides. The rear has a one-story hip-roofed wing that is as wide as the main and side sections of the house. It has a side doorway with wood canopy. The house has a center brick chimney History: This building was probably constructed by judging from its styling and materials. In a permit was taken out to connect this apparently pre-existing house to the city's water system. Thomas F. Dwyer lived here then. He worked as a bench hand, probably at a nearby factory. The city directories from list this as the residence of Thomas and Helen Dwyer. His occupation was the same. It had a variety of occupants in the following years.

From this was home to Roger and Virginia Bowers. He worked as a clerk for the Superior Antenna Service. From this was home to Maxine Jones.

and later Springfield city directories. The building stands within the South Fountain Avenue Historic District, which has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
