This house is significant as an example of Italianate style residential housing stock in the city. Its overall narrow form is distinguished by its massive semi-octagonal front bay window which combines with the house's corner location to give it visual prominence in its neighborhood. Description: The house is a long narrow building that is part of a closely spaced cluster of late century houses within the proposed Champion Historic District. Its major external feature is its two-story semi-octagonal front bay window, which takes up most of the narrow front elevation and is accented by large windows on both floors. The windows are boarded but probably have one-over-one double-hung wood sash behind the boarding.

A small front porch is set in the angle formed by the front and side street-facing wings. Windows are unusually large and are symmetrically arranged on the exterior of the two principal elevations. The house rises up a full two stories and its balloon frame walls are sheathed in shiplap siding. A low-pitched hipped roof crowns the building and has a simple cornice with overhanging eaves. Corbeled brick chimneys are in the front and side wings. The rear is quite plain, with doors at grade level, leading onto a masonry stoop. The house must have had an exterior staircase on the side opposite the side street because there is a second floor door and the outline of a stairway on the side of the house. History: This building was probably constructed in the judging from its styling and materials.

From at least through it was home to Edward and Anna Newton. He worked as a blacksmith. From it was home to Edward F. and Mary O'Brien. He worked as an assembler, probably at a nearby factory, perhaps one of the Champion works. From 49 it was home to Anna Dineen, for whom no occupation was listed. It has been vacant since From it was home to Troy and Carol Litteral. He worked as a press operator.

The building stands within the proposed Champion Historic District, which has been determined eligible by the Ohio State Historic Preservation Officer (SHPO) for listing on the National Register of Historic Places. Copies of information used to make this determination of eligibility for National Register status are at the Springfield Department of Planning and Development and the Ohio Historic Preservation Office.
