Utilitarian structure built to support the Charles Street Jail. It has lesser sig- nificance as a later, altered and rebuilt component of the jail complex. Description: The single-story red-brick structure extends only six feet above grade. Its east elevation (only exposed elevation) is accentuated by six rectangular three-light windows located in front of original wooden sash. The cylindrical red-brick chimney extends above adjoining wings of the jail. Its interior is predominantly white glazed-brick walls with painted plaster ceilings and mastic coated floors. History: The original addition, built in was described as containing steam boilers and a kitchen. The addition replaced the original kitchen located in the rotunda of the jail.

This structure was enlarged and extensively renovated or rebuilt in in conjunction with the extension of the north wing. Source: City of Boston, City Document No. December p. 2. Site Plan, .
