This utilitarian building was built to support the north wing (women's) extension which is connected to the main jail. It functioned as a virtually independent facility and has moderate significance as a later component of the jail complex. Description: The two-story, L-shaped masonry building adjoins the north wing to the east, the Fruit Street wall to the north and the Sheriff's house to the west. The south and partial east elevation have six-over- six double-hung windows covered by closely spaced bars. The spartan interior has a sally port for receiving prisoners as well as locker facilities for women prisoners and offices. History: The addition was built in in con- junction with the extension of the north wing of the jail. Source: City of Boston, City Document No. December p. 2.
