The one-story boiler plant is a utilitarian structure which has minimal significance as a later component of the early Charles Street jail complex. Description: The building adjoins the east and north perimeter walls except that the chimney is constructed outside the north wall. The south and west elevations have large steel window sash which are partially covered with plywood. The D. M. Dillon boilers, manufactured in Fitchburg, MA, provided heat for the entire complex. History: The current boiler plant is the third heating plant for the jail. The original boilers were replaced in by the kitchen addition which included steam boilers.
