The Hotel St. Regis was built as a luxury apartment house when Euclid Avenue was still Cleveland's most fashionable address. Description: The Hotel St. Regis occupies the northeast corner of Euclid Avenue and East (formerly Genesee) Street. The seven-story building, of tan brick and artificial stone, has a full English basement. It is rectangular in plan and approximately 128 feet by 76 feet in size. A narrow, irregularly shaped light well opens to the east side of the building. The Euclid and East facades are distinguished by a base of horizontal stone and brick bands and decorative round-arched entrances. The Euclid entance has a boldly modeled porch entablature with columns; above the East entrance the name REGIS" appears in relief.

These facades have a bracketed cornice; a brick parapet with stone coping and ball ornament projects above the flat roof. Both facades originally featured vertical ranks of recessed balconies enclosed by stone or ornamental metal railings; the metal railings have been removed, and the balconies in the East elevation have been bricked in, with new windows added in their place. The west, north, and east elevations have vertical ranks of bay windows. Windows throughout the building are double-hung, 1/1 lights, with stone sills. H i s tory : The Hotel St. Regis was designed by Edward E. Smith, a Cleveland architect noted for his apartment house designs, including that of the Colonial at Euclid and East as well as the Columbia and Marine buildings downtown.

It was built in by the Euclid Genesee Realty Company, of which George W. Smith was president. In its early years, it was the home of many prominent Clevelanders, including: William Rockefeller, brother of John D. Rockefeller and an incorporator of the Standard Oil Company; Frank DeHaas Robison, president of the Cleveland Spiders Hotel St. Regis HABS No. OH-2336 (Pag 2) baseball team from to and U.S. District Judge Robert Walker Tayler, author of the Tayler Grant which ended Cleveland's bitter streetcar war and regulated operations of the reorganized street railways. The building was remodeled into efficiency units in the reflecting Euclid Avenue's decline as a fashionable residential district. Beginning in the building was operated as a retirement home Regis Hotel).

Later, it was operated as a nursing home (Abbey Nursing Home). It is now vacant and slated to be demolished for construction of a shopping center.
