| July 2003 | Flash Flood | Countywide | $25,000,000 | Heavy thunderstorm rains fell on Trumbull County during the evening hours. This was the second round of heavy precipitation during the day. The southern portion of the county experienced devastating flooding. As much as seven inches of rain was reported on the 21st with the southern half of the county generally seeing four to six inches of rain. Three inches of rain was reported in Warren between 6:30 and 9:30 p.m. A new all time calender day rainfall record of 4.65 inches was established at the Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport in Vienna Township. Over 7 inches of rain fell in the southeastern corner of the County with several five inch reports in Warren and 4.60 inches measured at Farmdale. Sections of Brookfield were flooded when Yankee Run Creek left it's bank. Flood waters up to five feet deep were reported with many cars swept off roads. Evacuations occurred at an apartment complex in Brookfield and also in portions of Hubbard where Mud Run left it's bank. Devastating flooding also occurred further west in the Girard, McDonald and Liberty Township areas. Dozens of roads were washed out and numerous evacuations occurred in the these areas. All roads were closed in Girard at 9:30 p.m. Dozens of homes were flooded in Liberty Township with damages to public property and roads topping $1 million. Damages in Girard were also well into the millions. Flood waters up to four feet deep were observed in Vienna Township just south of the airport. Significant flooding occurred in Warren with dozens of homes affected. Two large factories in the city had to be closed and evacuated because of flooding. Finally, the Trumbull County 911 Center in Howland had to be evacuated around 9 p.m. when a basement wall collapsed allowing flood waters into the building. Flooding problems continued in the county until the 24th as the Mahoning River went into flood and caused even more damage. A total of 753 homes were damaged in Trumbull County by flash flooding on the 21st or the resulting river flooding. Of this total, 90 homes were declared destroyed or uninhabitable. Another 1400 homes experienced basement flooding. |

Rainfall rates of nearly two inches per hour were reported. With the ground still saturated from flooding the previous week, small streams and creeks in the county quickly rose and flooded many areas. Communities in the southern portion of the county were again the hardest hit. Mud Run Creek left it's banks in Hubbard and flooded areas along Main Street and on the north side of town. The creek washed out a bridge on Bell Wick Road near Mount Everett Road. The creek rose several feet in less than 30 minutes and heavily damaged over 30 homes and businesses. Many other buildings sustained minor damage. Several children had to rescued from flood waters in a park and numerous people had to be evacuated from their homes. Widespread flooding also occurred in Brookfield Township with water in some locations as much as four feet deep. Liberty Township was again hard hit with between 50 and 60 homes flooded. Water on roadways was as much as three feet deep and the residents of a nursing home had to be evacuated. Around 10 people had to be rescued from stranded vehicles in the township. Damage to roads in Liberty Township was around $1.5 million. McDonald and Girard just to the west also experienced terrible flooding. Dozens of homes were flooded forcing the evacuation of many people. Basements in at least six homes in Girard collapsed. Over two inches of rain fell in the Newton Falls area flooding many roads. Total damage to roads in Trumbull County from July 21st to July 27th topped $5 million. |
| September 2004 | Flash Flood | Countywide | $4,200,000 | Heavy rains associated with the remnants of Tropical Storm Frances caused extensive flooding in Trumbull County. The worst flooding was reported in the eastern and central sections of the of the county where up to four inches of rainfall had fallen by late evening on September 8th. The rains continued into the 9th with another two to four inches reported in some areas before the rain finally ended around daybreak. Rainfall totals from the event included: 3.36 inches at Mosquito Creek State Park; 3.60 inches at Newton Falls; 3.85 inches in Leavittsburg; 4.45 inches at the Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport in Vienna Township and 9.40 inches at Brookfield. The Cortland area was especially hard hit by flooding. Between 20 and 30 families had to be evacuated from their homes around 2:30 a.m. after flood waters from Walnut Run rose to nearly four feet in depth in their neighborhood. A total of 118 homes were damaged by flooding in Cortland. Several roads and culverts were also washed out in the area. Flood waters along Tournament Trail and Old Oak Drive exceeded the 100 year flood plain. Brookfield Township was also hard hit as several small streams went into flood washing out a couple roads and forcing the closure of several more. To the south, Little Yankee Creek and Mud Run Creek went into flood in Hubbard damaging many homes and businesses along Main Street. Many other roads were washed out or damaged elsewhere in the county. A total of 309 homes were directly damaged by flash flooding in Trumbull County. Hundreds of additional homes and businesses experienced basement or nuisance flooding. |
| July 2019 | Flash Flood | Kinsman | $3,000,000 | Kinsman Lake in northern Trumbull County saw an estimated 5 to 6 inches of rainfall during the early morning hours of the 20th. A Flash Flood Warning was issued at 741 AM on the morning of the 20th due to an increase in rainfall rates peaking between 7 and 715 am around 4 inches per hour. The nine acre lake was overwhelmed by runoff and the earthen dam on the south side of the lake was overtopped by 2 to 4 feet of water as estimated by Ohio Department of Natural Resources. The dam eroded and broke around 811 AM. Immediately downstream of the dam the basement wall of home collapsed, and agricultural fields sustained significant erosion. In all the washed out bridge left 55 people in 21 homes cut off as a result of this failure. The flood waters continued down Stratton Creek into Pymatuning Creek and eventually into the Shenango River Lake in PA. No impacts were reported once the flood waters reached the Pymatuning Creek. |

Winds were measured at 60 mph in downtown Cleveland (Cuyahoga County), 63 mph at Cuyahoga County Airport and 69 mph in Willoughby (Lake). Numerous trees were uprooted, some on power lines, some severely damaging cars and buildings. Many roads were blocked by debris. In Geauga County a greenhouse was destroyed and a trailer overturned. In Kinsman (Trumbull) a pickup truck was crushed by a large falling tree but the driver was unhurt. A 44 year-old Euclid (Cuyahoga) woman was killed near her home as she walked through an area with extensive debris and came into contact with a concealed downed power line. Power was out in some areas for up to 24 hours. |

This tornado continued east along Everett Hull Road in Bazetta Township, where it brought down numerous trees and power lines, including near the Trumbull County Fairgrounds. The tornado emerged over Mosquito Creek Lake and continued moving east returning over land at Hillside Cemetery in Cortland. At the cemetery, a storage shed was destroyed, shingles were blown off a chapel roof, and 36 headstones were overturned. Dozens of trees and bushes were also knocked down and the cemetery did not reopen until mid-February 2019 due to storm damage. From Hillside Cemetery, the tornado continued east into Cortland where damage to buildings, vehicles, and trees was noted. The tornado lifted before it reached High Street (Ohio State Route 5). The tornado was on the ground for about 4.5 miles and had a maximum width of 75 yards. |

A distinct two mile long path of damage was observed. The first damage was observed in the Lincoln Park area of Warren. The damage path then stretched northeast across a neighborhood bordered to the south by Reeves Road and to the east by North Road. At least three apartment buildings along Cranberry Lane in this neighborhood sustained roof and siding damage. About a dozen homes in the area also sustained minor damage, mainly from missing siding or shingles. A couple of the homes did have trees land on them causing more significant roof damage. Dozens of trees and large limbs were downed along the damage path which was up to 150 yards in width. The damage path ended just east of State Route 82 near where it crosses Mosquito Creek. |

Twenty five trees were downed in Howland Township and between 200 and 250 trees were downed at a golf course on the east side of Warren. The airmass was saturated with a very high rainfall efficiency. A thunderstorm complex moved into southern Trumbull County around 4 pm and lasting through 6 pm. The heaviest rain fell around 5 pm with rates estimated over 5 inches per hour according the NWS Doppler Radar. An observation by the US Army Corps of Engineers at nearby Mosquito Lake measured 3.79 of rain for that day. The deluge resulted in evacuations of at least 4 people from Champion Township due to flooding of several inches in an apartment building. In Warren portions of Niles Road S.E. was damaged by flowing water that was too much for the citys storm drain system. A restaurant was damaged by flood waters and a malls parking lot flooded resulting in flooded cars. A separate office building was damaged from flood waters entering the first floor. A second round of showers came in after 8 pm which just exasperated flood conditions despite only dropping a few hundredths of an inch of rainfall though rates were around 3.5 per hour. The tornado was in contact with the ground intermittently during its 4 mile path length from Girard across Liberty Township. The damage path was generally 25 yards in width. Most of the damage occurred to trees. Trees were snapped and uprooted. At least 4 cars were damaged by falling trees. Branches were downed. Minor damage was also observed to roof tops, chimneys, signs and out buildings. |

Occurred on 5800 block of Orangeville Kinsman Road was flooded. Numerous flooded basements in NW Trumbull County. Phillips-Rice Road closed. Walnut Run Creek flooded a home in Cortland. Laura Lane development flooded for the third time in eight years. Cortland and Bazetta most impacted. |

The tornado began near OH Route|305, east of Hoffman Norton Road. Damage in this location included significant damage to a garage and some downed trees and roofing damage, indicative of 80 mph tornadic winds. The tornado continued northeastward to Oak Hill Drive, where additional downed trees caused damage to a couple homes. The tornado continued northeastward to Downs Road NW, where more downed trees caused more home damage. The tornado moved farther northeastward and caused more tree damage west of Mahoning Avenue (OH Route 45), but the tornado dissipated before reaching the road. |
